On Day 6 of my Accutane journey. Have started this medication as a last resort as everything I have tried hasn't had much of an effect, and to be honest I was a little weary of taking this medication to begin with because of all the side effects. I have had acne since i was 14 but have been able to manage it with short courses of antibiotics/ birth control. About a year ago i started breaking out really bad even though I was on birth control designed to treat acne (Ginet-84 or Estelle). The acne is mostly on my cheeks/ lower face but has been getting progressively worse and moving down my jaw line. I would say its moderate - severe on my face with a bit of scaring and alot of hyperpigmentation from old breakouts, and mild-moderate on my back. Over the course of a year I have tried doxycycline, minocycline (which made me dizzy and made my hair molt), eryacne, differin, benzol peroxide, several multi vitamins like zinc, nearly every acne product on the counter, herbal liver cleanses, applying strange things to my face like calamine lotion, zinc cream, turmeric and neem (which seemed to help a bit with inflammation), 3 day apple diet (which did zilch). I've also been to a naturopath and several doctors.
So here I am, had my blood and pregnancy tests last week and finally on Accutane and hasn't been too bad so far. I'm on 20mg once a day for 6 months. I take the capsule at night to avoid getting tired. I'm not sure if the derm will increase my dosage in the up coming months. I'm 24 years old and weigh between 49-51 kg. So started breaking out a little on day 4 but hasn't been too extreme. Lips are starting to get quite dry and skin on face is a little dryer than usual. I have noticed I'm getting quite sensitive to the sun now and got slightly burnt after a small time in the sun yesterday. So invested in some good sunscreen today! Also face has started to take on a bit of a red tinge I wash my face in the morning and night with Cetaphil face wash, then follow by cetaphil ultrahydrating moisturizer and sunscreen if going out in the sun. Also put a bit of vaseline up nose and am using blistex and lucas paw paw ointment on lips. I have taken to putting heaps of moisturizer on at night to help the dryness and may moisturize whole body from tomorrow onwards.
Will attach some progress photos, which I can't say are very flattering as I don't have any makeup on, pretty greasy from moisturizer and I'm pretty rugged!
