Acne Defines Me

Introducing the gross girl with acne.....

I never had acne until I was about 19. I really didn't wash my face before then either. Once I had my daughter and stopped breastfeeding, I started getting a few pimples here and there. So, I thought I would be proactive (pun) and start washing and moisturizing daily. I started with Clinique and my skin got worse. I went back to not doing anything and it got better. But then, after about a year I started to get a lot of pimples so I started to try everything I could get my hands on. Do you really need a list?

Proactiv, Murad, Dermalogica, Arbonne, Mary Kay, Acne Free, Panoxyl, Clarisonic mia, dermatologist stuff...

I'm 25 and it's not fun anymore. It's actually really embarrassing. I already had an awful self image and this is just.....when I look in the mirror to do my hair, I try not to look at my face. I hate washing my face because I have to feel each pimple. I'm sick of this fight!

This is the worst my face has been. My acne has migrated to the side of my face, it used to be just on my chin and forehead. Actually, it was probably worse a week ago. But, a week ago I started using Neutrogena on the spot treatment, Purpose cleanser, and random moisturizers with jojoba oil. Today I ordered Daniel Kern BP. Here is to confronting the monster and making a change.

hey! just want to encourage you! I was on the regimen for 9 weeks, and all the cystic acne I had pretty much went away...except for some reason I started breaking out on my left cheek. But it disappeared on my jawline.

Unfortunately, I'm now allergic to BP- skin breaks out in itchy rash. But my skin was 100% clear, though I had a lot of scars/hyperpigmentation.

Good luck! just be careful to document your progress...expect an initial breakout...but it will go away!!!! The biggest tip I can give is ease into the BP....start out with very little and SLOWLY up the dosage. MAybe one week try once a day at a pea size amount, then try twice a day, etc.

Thank you for the encouragement. I hope that I'm not allergic to BP, it does burn a bit, but I don't have any rashes. So did your skin stay clear after you stopped using BP? It is so frustrating. I almost wish I had acne when I was younger, this adult stuff is horrible.

Good luck with the regimen. I feel confident that you will get some great results. Just remember to follow Dan's instructions carefully, and start slowly. Not like me...I managed to get chemical burn in the first week...arrrgh so silly. But I'm up to week 6 now and I am wearing no foundation to work for the first time in 20 years. Not that my skin is perfect, but it has improved an amazing amount.

All the best with it and I look forward to reading about your progress and experiences.

I can definitely relate... it is really hard to be an adult, even worse being a parent, and to accept yourself as "the gross girl with acne". Your words hit home for me, that is exactly how i have felt for years now. Like yourself, i also HATE washing my face each night. It's a reminder of how bad things really are.

Have you tried antibiotics? The antibiotics worked great for me for years but for whatever reason quit working. Looking back, i now see that even when the anitbiotics worked and my face was clear, the emotional damage from the acne was still there. It takes a lot of emotional housekeeping once the acne is gone to rid yourself of that "gross girl" image that us acne sufferers label ourselves with. And that is why i think this Blog is great. That way we can see where we started and all the changes being made.

I started accutane yesterday and am extremely nervous about it! Good luck with your journey to an acne free life!! You are definitely not alone.
