Hi y'all,

Well, I don't know if anyone will stumble across this, but if you do, thanks for reading and please comment if you have any advice! Or just want to say hi.

I am on my 6th day of Accutane (40 mg a day for the first month) and wow, these side effects are no joke. They have already started big time. Last night I was up till 4 am (not because I was out having fun) because my face was itching like CRAZY. It was horrible. The skin on my face is also really red and puffy. Now, I'm not sure if that was all the accutane, or partly caused by how much lotion (Cetaphil) I piled on before bed. Either way, it was awful. I felt all hot and allergic and I'm calling my dermatologist today to ask if this is normal.

But y'all on this site probably know better - IS this normal!?!? Will the redness/itchiness go away? I wasn't expecting such strong side effects on just the 40 mg dose, and so soon... It kind of makes me want to throw in the towel. I really want to give accutane a chance but I feel like maybe I can deal with acne better than with this.

Anyway, obviously having a lot of doubts at the moment - sometime soon when I'm feeling less stressed I'll include some background and hopefully more interesting stuff on this blog!

If you read all the way through, thanks  And if you're just starting accutane too or remember what it was like at the beginning and have some helpful advice or encouragement, I'd really appreciate it.

Accutane love,

-A

Hi there...I really don't know how to help since I started accutane not too long ago. Tomorrow I believe would make it 1 months since I've been on it. I am on 20mg a day. Maybe the dosage is too high for you or you're maybe having an allergic reaction? I'm just guessing but calling your doctor would be better. This week my face has been itchy as well. My solution was taking a cold wash cloth that I had put in the freezer overnight (and let it tore out a bit) and then putting it on my face. It felt good. :DWell now my face is well dry and shining like a disco ball and some areas I swear feels like plastic. I've created a blog to track my progress. You can check it out if you want to. Anyway good luck on your accutane journey.

Hey, thanks for saying hi! I'm interested to hear you're on 20 mg because I'm thinking of asking my derm to go on a lower dose. My doctor was just telling me that the convention in Europe is to be on lower doses of Accutane (10-20 mg) a day, while in the US it's usual to give high doses for a shorter period of time. I guess there are pros and cons either way. I know what you mean about your face feeling like plastic in some places! It feels so weird. I will definitely check out your blog :) Oh and congratulations on finishing one month!

Yes it does feel weird...For some reason I've got a good feeling my Dr. would make me go on 40mg the next time I visit. I really don't want that because I already hate the way how my skin feels. Blehh I pray that I and hopefully you won't get a relapse whenever this course finishes since I don't want to be on this medication for too long
