I'm going to use my blog to post about what makes my skin clear. Hopefully if something works for me it can work for someone else too so here goes.
I've only just joined this website but I've had acne for 9 years now, so long! At times I've just learnt to live with it. For 9 years I've had moderate acne that comes and goes, and I've tried all sorts of treatments over the years.
I started breaking out when I turned 11. I started using all different kinds of cleansers from the store but nothing worked, I even tried creams and lotions from the doctors but that didn't work either.
When I was 13 someone suggested to me that sugar in food can cause acne so I went on a strict diet cutting out any food with added sugar in it. This helped, my skin didn't clear up completely but it helped more than anything had done before. Let me tell you though, almost everything i found had added sugar in it, so to cut out added sugar means cutting out junk food and most processed foods. Then I cut out anything with added white flour.. it took quite a few months but my skin went clear. I still broke out (probably because i never used spot treatment)
Eating healthy made me look great as well, I lost a bit of weight (not that I needed to) and eating fruits and vegetables made me healthier and happier.
Before I started that diet, I had moderate acne that was getting worse by the day, I was also breaking out on my back. A few months on the no sugar no flour diet and my body acne was GONE. only sometimes i got a few on my face.
now, over the next few years I wasn't able to keep this diet up, school was stressful and so was life and I just ate whatever was around. I also had a busy social life and ate whatever my friends ate. As my diet got worse so did my skin
But into my late teens I still found eating healthy helped my skin a lot, but it was very hard for me to keep a strict diet up.
Last year when I was 18, I tried a diet where I had no gluten, no sugar and nothing containing artificial sweeteners or preservatives. the first three weeks by skin went insane! It was so bad, I didn't even want to leave the house my face looked so bad.. but I heard this happens because your body is detoxing. Anyway, week four.. CLEAR SKIN! For the first time in years I was able to go out confidently without makeup! Yay! Problem is.. I was starving. Eating a diet of just fruit, vegetables, meat and gluten-free grains is HARD.
I wasn't able to keep to this strict eating plan and I began eating everything again and my skin got acne again
So now, I'm 19 and I don't care if the diet's hard.. I'm going back on it. I've started cutting out sugar and I'm following a Low GI diet, will keep this up for a few weeks to see how it goes.
I don't know if DIET is the issue with everyone but it is for ME. Maybe diet has something to do with hormones or insulin or something (I read that somewhere) or maybe I have food intolerance?
So.. I'm going to stick to this diet.. it's hard but hopefully it will be worth it!.
