Hey there! My name is Dana, and I'm a 26 year old girl who has struggled with mild acne for about 10 years. With a month to my 25th birthday, my long-term boyfriend moved to Dallas & naturally we split. I had a quarter life crisis with a semester left of my MBA--decided I hated my career direction and quit my finance job of 4 years out of the blue. I signed up for an undergraduate biology class along with the last few MBA classes & sought out my life's purpose. After some volunteer work in an ER and then more intense work in a Level 1 trauma center, I decided I wanted a medical career. After I finished my Master's I went back to undergrad to get my pre-health prerequisites and waited tables for a year. This was a very stressful time in my life because I went from having a full time salaried career, owning a house, two dogs, etc. to living month to month on a server's wage. I was also doing behavioral neuropharmacology and neuroscience research (unpaid) and still volunteering in the trauma center during the graveyard shift. Not sleeping much because of my school course load and eventually my skin just started deteriorating. Where I normally would have spots of clear, smooth skin, I started getting patches of small comodones. Eventually my entire face, aside from my nose, around my eyes and mouth and neck were covered in these skin colored bumps. Next came the small cyst like spots. They aren't huge, but they aren't just a typical zit.
At this point, I am about to be 27. I'm now working full time in the medical field, making a little more than I was in my finance career so money is no longer stressing me out. However, I work about 70 hours a week and I'm about to start PA school. I'm tired of being stressed out with acne. Having clear skin and my schedule would be stressfull enough! I went back to my dermatologist and he suggested Accutane. A full 6 months.
So here I am on day 2. No side effects yet. I'm excited for the journey!
