On the regimen..again!

I've known about acne.org for two years, followed it for 3/4 months, started getting results, and stopped for some unknown reason! Why, why, did I not stick with it, my skin is horrible, again. I am in my late twenty's, and everyone thought my acne would go away after becoming and adult, but no, I've been suffering from acne since 12, and it has been moderate since 14. I've found out I have pcos, a female hormone imbalance, so my skin behaves maybe one week, and the other three its a nightmare.

I don't know If I stopped using the regimen because I was too busy, but I think mostly because I don't like ordering stuff online, I like to see products up close and personal when shopping, touch them, read ingredients, smell the contents, etc. but to find a good size 2.5% bp in stores is not possible, and I became frustrated! I was actually given persagel 10 (bp) back in the day from a derm when persagel was prescription, but no one told me about proper use, and no one told me about moisturizers, so after major drying, itching, flaking, after only one week I said, forget this crap, and never really tried to use bp again.

Now that I'm older, and know alot more about skin care and makeup, I'm excited to start the regimen again knowing how to keep my skin moisturized while using bp, using non comedogenic makeup/ products, etc. I really, really would love to order Dan's products, especially since there are no drugstore moisturizers that I could find that have jojoba oil, all I've found are moisturizers with glycerin and mineral oil, which yes to moisturize, but are the cheapest moisturizers a company can put into their products (more on that later I suppose). Buuuuut, for now, I would like to use up products I have before ordering, because I'm also on a bit of a budget right now.

So this is technically day three for me, and I promise, photos tomorrow! So far four really big under the skin, red cycstic types are already shrinking, and my pores are already looking clean inside. I can tell my skin is getting itchy and dry, so I've been moisturizing more than normally. So far, no flakes yet. Here are the products I'm trying to use up, and they will have to do until I can order the acne.org products, can't wait!

AM routine

Clean and clear foaming facial cleanser for sensitive skin

Clean and clear persagel 10, diluted with moisturizer of course

Clean and clear finishes mattifying moisturizer, spf 15

Facial spray (water and glycerin, similar to mac fix plus) for extra moisture when needed

PM routine

Clean and clear foaming cleanser

Persagel 10, diluted with moisturizer

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Face Lotion, Night

Vitamin E oil for extra moisture

I don't really love using the glycerin or vit e oil, but my skin is pretty dry already, I have a lot on hand, and they are good moisturizers, but I really am going to switch this up later on for jojoba oil, because of all its good properties, and it also contains antioxidants. So posting photos tomorrow, with no makeup and with!

I'm in my late 20's and just found out I have PCOS, too- been suffering from acne for years, also. Have you thought about taking Yasmin bc? I was leary of going on bc, but it helped get my hormones balanced. Using that and Proactive has cleared me up pretty quickly. Good luck on your regimen!

Any kind of birth control has usually helped my skin, but I have been off birth control for a while, 8 yrs to be exact, because I'm wanting to have kids but i'ts been hard with the pcos, and because long term use of bcp can cause cancer, and I had an aunt with cervical cancer so ya, I got off of bc. I've been on metformin, also called glucophage, it does wonders with women that have pcos, evening out the hormones, I was on it for three months, but my prescription ran out and I just haven't been back to the doctor. So ya, if you think the birth control will help alittle with the hormones, it kept my acne from not being so severe, but as soon as I got off the bc my skin went to moderate acne again.

I've heard of metformin, but I'm still new to this PCOS stuff- does it have any benefits for someone who's not trying to have kids?

I emailed you a website link about the benefits of metformin. If you are sexually active metformin helps to make a woman with pcos fertile, so you may just want to go with the birth control, but you can read information and talk to your doctor and decide what you want to do. Hope that helps :-
