Starting month 5!

Today I pick up my last prescription of accutane. I find it a little odd that I'm ending at my highest dose, 80 mg/day (not like I'm a doctor or anything, but it seems like most people do a sort of pyramid dose).

My skin tone and pores are about 90% improved at this point. I still have flushing during any temperature change, mild irritation, or physical exertion, but I'm expecting that to go away once I'm off accutane. I have one active pimple right now and it seems like one more pops up every time the last is healing. Don't get me wrong, it's nothing like before but a little frustrating.

I'm starting to get very scared about going off accutane. Having no oil production these last few months has CHANGED MY LIFE. That is no understatement. I'm starting a new job next week, which involves about an hour drive/metro/walk commute (in Texas heat & humidity) before and after a 9 hour work day. Before accutane, I would have turned it down. There was absolutely no way I could go more than 11 hours without washing my face (or even my hair, chest, and back) and if my oil returns after accutane, I don't know what I'm going to do. After seeing what it's like to be normal, I don't know how I could possibly go back to that.

Does anyone have any experience with post-accutane oil? I'm starting to get really nervous!

I'm still on accutane, but my derm tells me that you might get some oil back but nothing likew before. i TOTALLY understand about the oil. I am extremely oily and even on the accutane I still have some on my forhead. It's gross and fustrating....Hope this helps...And good luck! :boohoo:

I was on accutane 20 mg a day for only 3 months. My poors were small and my skin all over was dry and smooth. I remember I still had a few break outs, but accatane took care of the really cystic, deep, and stubborn acne. I hated having an oily feeling on my back and face, so accutane made that better. I only washed my hair once a week! I wasn't on as long as many people, but it took about a few months for my oil glands to work again. My skin has never been all that oily, but the oil production was much less post-accutane. It's been 1 1/2 years since I stopped accutane, and my acne came back gradually. I suggest you maybe give your skin a break/don't use anything to dry it out more, but plan other options to keep it clear. I made the mistake of letting a few pimples slide. Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback! I'm sorry your acne came back--that seems to be the case for most people huh? It's good to know that my oil production might be a little less in the end, though!
