Starting the DKR Regimen!

Hello everyone!

Before I start I'm going to give a little background about my skin. :D

I never really had acne until I turned 15. At this point in time I decided to "get serious" about taking care of my skin and loaded on several different moisturizers a day (Yeah I have no idea why. XD) for a while until lo and behold I started breaking out. Of course I stopped using the products but my skin's never really been the same. I don't know that I'd feel right totally blaming the moisturizers for years of mild breakouts since but needless to say I've been trying to get my skin 100% clear for about 9 years now. (I'm 23 going on 24 in March.)

My skin's not the worst I've seen all things considered, at the very most at any given time I'll have 5-6 active pimples but more often than not it'll be more like 1-3. My biggest problem is hyperpigmentation, I'm extremely fair-skinned and almost every pimple leaves a red mark that's very obvious on my skin and takes forever to fade.

At this point I'm not worried too much about making the red marks fade quicker as much as I am clearing my skin so there will be no more pimples and no new red marks. - The ones I have can just fade on their own sweet time.

In November of '10 I got the bright idea to stop the only product I've tried that's ever worked for keeping me relatively clear - my 10% drugstore BP. I read that some people thought it could prolong red marks and thought "what the hell", let's see what happens. I also started using a moisturizer again during this time and it all ended up with my skin breaking out worse than it had in a long time. Come late December I was right back to my 10% BP and trying to get my skin back under control.

My skin started getting somewhat better with my 10% BP when I found acne.org and started reading about the DKR. I read some of the success stories and saw some amazing before and after pictures of how beautifully clear people had gotten. - I haven't been 100% clear since i was a young teenager. BP has always worked well at keeping me relatively pimple-free, so I figured it couldn't hurt to try. :)

The only thing that scares me is the moisturizer use, I know it's important and needed and I'm going to do it, I've just had such awful luck with moisturizers in the past. I'm going to assume though it's because I've never known or paid any attention to comedogenic ingredients, and the moisturizer I tried over December was an SPF with avobenzone, which I read Dan's had trouble with as well so I'm hoping that was why.

I ordered Dan Kern's products last Friday but I really wanted to get started on the regimen so I went out and bought some drugstore products to use until mine arrive. :D I bought Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, Neutrogena OTS and the Equate brand version of Cetaphil's Moisturizing Lotion. I also ran by Vitamin Shoppe and picked up their jojoba oil.

I started the regimen Monday night. I had already been using 10% BP so my pimples were already drying up (As well as my skin, it was flaky when I started the regimen! :D), and the ones that had been are still clearing up. I have two new pimples that popped up yesterday and today (Day 3), but I'm not discouraged, I figure those were probably already forming and were going to come up no matter what.

My skin is flaky and sometimes at night it burns and itches a little, but I know that's to be expected. To be honest I kind of like it, it feels like at least something's going on with my skin, if that makes any sense. LOL :D The cetearyl alcohol and ceteareth-20 in my moisturizer concern me a lot, so I can't wait to get to using Dan's moisturizer instead. - His products sound amazing and I really want to be doing the regimen using them. :D

My DKR products arrived today, btw, but I can't use them until next Wendesday night, they were shipped to my house and I'm staying at my boyfriend's house! Ah well. I'll be updating. :D I took a picture of my skin Monday night, I'll do weekly picture updates. I'll post the pictures next Monday when I have a week's progress to show. - I'm not expecting too much difference though in just a week, but here's hoping! :D
