Days 1-4

So I finally did it! I finally got Accutane. My doc didn't even need convincing. She looked at my file: Acne for 10 years, been going to the derm (same office) off and on since I was 12. Tried everything under the sun. OTC products, Differin, Retin-A, antibiotics, birth control. Even tried sleeping with clean sheets/pillowcase every night (that was a hassle). Stopped using certain products in my hair. Stopped touching my face. Everything. And nothing worked.

She looked at my file, took one look at my face, and said "have you ever heard of Accutane?"

I burst into tears because someone had finally taken me seriously...

And now I'm here!

Today's the fourth day. I'm 5'2", 115 lbs. On 40mg of Amnesteen per day.

For the month while I waited to get my second blood test, she put me on Tetracycline (500 mg twice daily), Retin-A micro (0.04% once daily), and Clindamycin Phosphate Topical Solution, USP Pledget (1% twice daily). My acne cleared up substantially in that time. However, I was still getting cystic pimples--they just cleared up five times faster than normal. And I have very persistent acne, caused by the overproduction of oil (my mom was the same when she was younger, though she was a much milder case). That's why I'm doing Accutane now.

It's day 4 now. Starting to get dry itchy skin on my body. I've gotten a few very very tiny surface pimples. Eyes are slightly dry. But that's it. And I don't know if I'm breaking out simply because I've been off the other medication for over a week, or if this is part of my initial breakout with Accutane. I'll have to wait and see. So far, no dry lips or nose or skin. Skin is still mega oily. But it's always been that way. :/

Week Four

Sorry for the image quality. Camera phone is all I have. Week four is basically no more active acne, just redness and scars left over. Looks about the same as of today.
