I began having acne in 5th grade. In my late teens and early 20's I began getting cystic acne too. Even though I had scarring in my teens it got even worse from the cystic acne. I would go to the dermatologist and have him inject a steroid into the painful bumps to give them some relief and help them go away. I couldn't stand my scars! I hated looking at myself and I felt that if I didn't have scarring then I would be pretty. I heard about CO2 laser when I was scarred in my teens and I always wanted to do it. In my early 20's I read up on it a lot but it was too expensive and I was a little aprehensive of the invasive surgery anyways. In my late 20's I didn't care anymore what it would involve, I was going to pay whatever it took and go through whatever I had to go through. I had CO2 laser, dermabrasion, and fat injections in Sept, 2008 (I was 28) and then just CO2 laser in Dec, 2009 (almost 30 yo). The 1st treatment was great, but the 2nd treatment made an even bigger difference! I would definitely recommend this procedure to anyone wanting to get rid of their scars (btw I had rolling & boxcar scars). My biggest advice is to find a GREAT surgeon you are comfortable with and follow the directions he/she gives you! If you don't then you could end up with worse scarring. Also, fyi, it can take up to a year to see final results because collagen continues to build so don't get discouraged. I'm happy to answer any questions you may have. I want to help others out too.
