WEEK 1

I am currently on day 5 of the regimen.

Prior to doing the regimen I was using a prescription Obagi set with BP so my skin is very used to BP. My first week I am using about the amount of BP I think most people would start using at week 4. More than half a finger length.

I am also using AHA at night. AHA seems to help my pimples to fade.

I am experiencing lots of flakes but overall the results from this first week are really encouraging. Some pimples that were very stubborn and have been healing for weeks went away completely in these first five days. Also a lot of pimples came to a head and disappeared in as little as three days which is really amazing for me. It seems like recently they just stick around forever.

I would love to have clearer skin before I travel home for Christmas. I know that is only two and a half weeks away but maybe just maybe since BP is nothing new to my skin this ramping up method will work quickly.

Also, I only have two pimples on my back!!!!!! that is amazing!!!!!!!

I am still taking herbs from my acupuncturist for my gallbladder that are supposed to aid in the healing process of my acne as well. I am still undecided as to if acupuncture is really helping my acne or not. I am following the diet she told me to follow to avoid inflammatory foods that cause acne. But I do not regret going to an acupuncturist because it is a wonderful stress relief and is probably leading me into an overall healthier lifestyle.

I am curious about the dreaded week 2 breakout. Does anyone know why this happens??

Not so sure ramping up that quickly is such a good idea. You can read the first few posts of my blog and find out why. I've used BP a few times in the past as well, but the flakes get out of control... quickly. I think the week 2 breakout is in part due to purging from previous acne along with the irritation from BP. The irriation the BP causes the skin in the first few weeks aggravates already clogged pores, causing them to come to the surface, sometimes as inflamed acne. Since BP is used primarily to prevent acne rather than to treat existing lesions and irritation is a leading cause of acne, this would make sense. That's my opinion. Anyhow, might be a good idea to back off the BP a little bit or keep the dosage your at now. Most people who think their skin is somewhat used to BP ( such as myself ) end up getting proved wrong. The first month of the Regimen should focus primarily on getting up to the dosage of BP that the Regimen calls for. By starting so quickly you are probably going to backpedal. If your worried about what your skin will look like around Christmas, think about whether you would rather have some acne, or have some acne along with a red, flaky, irritated mess. Just some friendly advice. I wish you the best!

Thank you so much for your honest advice! I backed off the BP last night and just used half the amount I've been using. I think you are right, I am starting to see more flakes and the moisturizer doesn't go on as smoothly as it did the first few days. How about the AHA? Is it a bad idea to use that in the beginning?

Oh yes, stay away from the AHA for now. I remember I used it for the first time in week 5 in my first go round. My skin hadn't become used to the full dose of BP yet. The first time I used AHA my skin BURNED HORRIBLY! A bad experience to say the least. What is funny is that it was only 5% lactic acid, which is milder than glycolic and at a less percentage than dan's AHA formula. Imagine what it would have been like if I had used Dan's. HA! The AHA will come in handy once your dryness isn't too bad using the FULL dosage. Also, what I thought was funny was that on the back of Dan's BP bottle, it advises you to work up to the full dosage over the first SIX weeks, not four. Hmmm. Probably not bad advice :boohoo:
