Accutane month 4, week 2

Here goes nothing

All of a sudden I have the chapped lips everyone is talking about. I'm thankful it didn't start until now but it sucks. No matter how much water I drink and how often I reapply Aquaphor they are still chapped. I'm literally applying Aquaphor every 5 minutes.

My triglycerides are back to normal which is good and they finally found a nurse who can get a good blood draw. They sent me to another lab twice because they couldn't find a good vien and now I'm being charged crazy amounts of money and there is nothing I can do about it. The blood draws are only covered if they are in office. It doesn't matter that the hospital's lab is in the same building.

This month, next month then I'm done!!! I haven't had a breakout since the first month. Everything is dry and itchy... Very itchy. Especially my forehead. My eyes, lips, scalp, arms... I have "more" energy compared to last month which is odd. All I wante dto do last month was sleep. I still feel like 8 hours of sleep isn't enough though. I feel like spf30 is plently. I'm such a sun bum it's hard not baking in the sun. I'm scared to try an spf lower than 30.

I can't find an article that really states what Accutane is doing inside your body to "cure" acne" What does vitamin A do? I heard this used to be used like chemo in cancer patients???

I still drink a couple times a week in moderation and the doc says it fine... I hope so.

I forgot to mention that my upper arms are always red and warm to the touch and my nails are brittle. They almost peel off... Also I have the attention span of a five year old and it seems I can't remember anything!!! Hope it's worth all the hassle.

I'm on Month 2, Week 1 now and man those dry lips suck! My mom took it back in the early 90's and she told me this: Vitamin A is what the body uses to regulate cell renewal and sloughing. An "overdose" of Vitamin A (aka Accutane) causes your body to go into ultra sloughing mode. So your bottom layers of skin (the nice shiny pink layers) are coming up to the surface quicker and the "old" cells are being sloughed off at an accelerated rate (hence all the flaking). This quick cell turnover does something (don't know what) to the hair follicles and pores causing them to become temporarily dormant until you stop taking the Accutane. Because you are sloughing cells from the inside out and all over, quickly, the cells do not hold water/moisture well and your body will feel dry. This is why consuming oils and fats will benefit you better than water, more cloying. Don't know it's all completely accurate but it makes some sense and that's kind of what it feels like is going on.

You are so smart. Thank you! Is this why cuts and scrapes seem to take forever to heal?
