Skin Condition Unlike yesterday, my skin was much less red when I woke up this morning Lots of acne marks still on my cheeks The pimples on my lip are all no longer active, but still have a mark I plan to pop the 3 tiny whiteheads on my chin (Bad, I know, more on that later) Skin feels tight but not as flakey The one pimple on my forehead is also no longer active The deep "underground" pimple is smaller, dryer and less painful than yesterday Application This morning I washed my face with warm water and then my sulfacleanse I took a warm wet washcloth and GENTLY used circular motions to remove all the dry skin that needed to be shed I applied a thick layer of moisturizer After that dried I applied another layer of moisturizer in the areas that needed it I decided to pop the whiteheads on my chin. I know its bad but here is my method that never seems to give me problems (I got it from Dr. Oz) Make sure your pimples are ready. There should be a very white soft head on the pimple. Take clean hands and a clean needle to a clean pimple. (I use peroxide on it all) Insert the tip of the needle in the SIDE of the whitehead. Remove the needle and GENTLY drain the pimple. I don't try to squeeze out every drop of pus. I give it one gentle squeeze and whatever comes out comes out, and then I move on. IDEALLY I would pop my pimples at night so they have time to heal while I sleep but these 3 were so ready to pop. I decided to ice my pimples again today I focused on the deep underground pimple and the ones I had just popped. I took my doxycycline Midday I washed with cerave hydrating cleanser I moisturized The reason for this mid day wash is to remove the layers of moisturizer, dirt, and oil from the morning and prep my skin for makeup as I was going out that night Makeup green color correcting primer BB cream on my problem areas SUUPER light dust of translucent powder Before bed Washed my face with my cerave hydrating cleanser waited 20 minutes Applied a pea sized amount of adapelene all over my face waited 5 minutes applied moisturizer. Lots Feelings/Thoughts/Observations Less dryness than yesterday for the most part, except a little more than usual around my eye area. Im continually puzzled by this because i dont apply any adapelene in that area and I make sure not to accidentally spread it there when applying moisturizer I have less than 2 active pimples on my face currently. The rest are in the process of healing/ The big underground pimple continues to show improvement Notes Take this weeks survey please! im curious to see you guy's experiences (see yesterday's post) If you guys have questions or advice feel free to comment!
Skin Condition My skin texture looks good, i have very littler redness except for directly around a few pimples: The small cluster of whiteheads on my chin has turned into one smaller, less inflamed whitehead I have one whitehead right at the front of my eyebrow my forehead looks really smooth aside from a few bumps (the # of bumps decreases every day) of course my face is covered in acne marks and some scars Application This morning I washed my face with my sulfacleanse I applied some moisturizer I went to the dermatologist I washed my face I applied hydrocolloid bandaids to my emerging whiteheads around 5pm. Hydrocolloid bandages are often referred to as "advanced healing" bandaids. They come im plenty of shapes and sizes, but i bought small round ones that fit over my pimples. They are skin toned/translucent stickers that adhere to your skin. There is no cotton pad like on traditional bandaids. If you research the bandages, especially for acne treatment, you will find information that says it drains whiteheads and heals acne without leaving a mark. I decided to try this. I took my doxycycline (around 10pm...i almost forgot it!) Before bed I took off the hydrocolloid bandaids By the time i was ready to take the bandaids off, i could tell my pimples had drained. the white pus from my pimples looked like it had been sucked into the bandaid. When i took the bandaid off my pimples looked flat and not very red. I think i will apply the bandaids again tomorrow night and wear them while i sleep! washed my face applied adapalene applied moisturizer Feelings/Thoughts/Observations Today is my first derm visit since i began my journet 26 days ago (Technically 36 days if you read my blog description) My derm said all is well and saw clear improvement! She said to continue as im doing and told me to research hydrocolloid bandages (which is what i ended up doing and using). I have another appointment but its 3 months away. At that point we will assess my progress and adjust the regimen to get my skin as clear as possible She reminded me to ALWAYS wear sunscreen to help my spots (hyperpigmentation) on my cheeks to heal
Skin Condition The acne marks on my cheeks look a little better these days but are still very much there The discoloration from the pimples on my lip remain The whitehead on my chin seems to be healing up now, but of course seems to be leaving a mark No dy skin this morning for all practical purposes! Maybe a little flake here or there but that was easily handled witha washcloth. Unlike the last few days, my forehead seems to be having some issues. TONS of tiny bumps emerged on my forehead overnight. In face, something about my entire face just didnt look good this morning. I couldnt put my finger on it for a while but i think its the texture. Its just got lots of little bumps everywhere. Most arent even red, but it makes my skin look weird The cystic pimple continues to show improvement, its becoming flatter and flatter each day Application This morning I washed my face with my sulfacleanse (Im going to begin incorporating more sulfacleanse into my rouutine now that my skin is almost fully adapted to the adapelene) Used my wet washcloth to gently remove dry skin I applied some moisturizer (i no longer need a super thick layer) I took my doxycycline I iced some of the bumps on my face. It didnt do much but I was hoping it would. Before bed I washed my face with my SULFACELANSE - instead of my usual night time wash, cerave Wooo after 10 days of only using my sulfacleanse in the mornings (my skin was too dry from the adapelene for the first 10 days and i didnt want to ALSO use a drying cleanser twice a day at that point) I'm finally gonna switch to using it twice a day! Hopefully this can combat what seems to be an onset of pimples. Feelings/Thoughts/Observations My skin was feeling really off today and I couldnt figure out why... I rubbed at it a little and my skin started just rolling off??? not like the dry flaky skin ive been facing, the skin was peeling more like a sunburn would. it was weird. So i did a little extra exfoliation today. Today might qualify as a breakout. By the time i was getting ready for bed i noticed a lot of red bumps around my chin and mouth, as well as on my forehead. Ugh, its like ive taken a bunch of steps forward and now im taking a couple steps back. Im gonna be carefuul to not stray away from my routine at all going forward. I dont want any issues.
Day 29 When I woke up my skin looked better than the night before (I had a major whitehead breakout on my chin on day 28) I still had a few whiteheads on my chin but resisted popping My skin was super dry and flaky this day. Not sure why. I applied a little extra moisturizer today. Day 30 Ill take a photo of my skin tomorrow morning and eventually post to show my before and after (1 month progress) My skin is showing steady improvement everywhere except my chin. idk whats going on there but theres just whiteheads there every night that i have to put hydrocolloid bandaids on. They are drained when i wake up in the morning, but by the evening there are always more, i MIGHT have forgotten to take my doxycycline today. Right before i went to bed i honestly couldnt remember if I had taken it that day Day 31 Same as yesterday. forehead and cheeks improving chin looks a mess. lots of whiteheads that im trying to manage. Day 32 Forhead is arguably completely clear (little to no acne marks!!) Cheeks completely clear besides plenty of old marks Chin....eh... better than day 31 but still struggling. Lots of redness and a few whiteheads that wont stay away Ended up taking a picture of my skin. I will post soon (next week?) Day 33 No new whiteheads today! Yay! Tons of new hyper pigmentation on my chin from this breakout Day 34-35 coming soon
Skin Condition As per usual redness was to a minimum when I woke up All the acne on my cheeks are gone, im left with many prominent marks though My chin is still a whitehead factory, but the whiteheads sorta just.....fell off? flaked off?.... this morning The area around my mouth looked a little flakey when i first woke up.....and once I washed my face and let it dry I saw my entire face was a flake fest. There was dryness surrounding each of the little marks/pimples on my forehead and cheeks which seemed to be good. It was literally a circle of dryness around each pimple. There was dryness on my eyelids and undereyes. Looks like I need to be even MORE careful about not getting the adapalene near my eyes There was the most dryness and flakage around my mouth. My skin looked snow white in that area because of how flakey it was. Im going to need to avoid this area with adapelene too. my forehead looks smooth overall besides a few little pink spots, each looking a little dry The deep "underground" painful pimple really isnt doing much at all. Just chilling there still, but a little flakey around the edges Application This morning I washed my face with warm water before applying the sulfacleanse and briefly rubbing it in. I rinsed and tried to be careful to avoid my eye area. After washing I let my skin dry a little and it was at this moment I saw how insanely flakey my skin was. I took a warm wet washcloth and GENTLY used circular motions around my mouth to remove the excess skin flakes (ew). Even after doing this it was still very flakey but there was considerable improvement. I applied a thick layer of moisturizer After that dry I applied another layer of moisturizer in the areas that needed it I took my doxycycline MAKEUP I ended up putting on a little green tinted primer over my cheeks along with a light amount of bb cream to cover some of my acne marks Before bed I washed my face with my cerave hydrating cleanser i waited 20 minutes I applied adapelene being careful to put it only on areas with lots of acne/marks i waited 5 minutes I applied a thick layer of moisturizer Feelings/Thoughts/Observations The peeling and dryness is here in full force. As much as I want to stop uusing the adapelene and make the peeling stop, Im going to perservere and push through. I applied less adapelene tonight, and really concentrating on ONLY applying it on areas with bad acne The peeling is bad but managable: Just using washcloths to remove dead skin in the morning and LOTS of moisturizer I hope I dont get peelier than this I want that big pimple under my nostril to leave!!!
Skin Condition Really minimal redness. less than ever. Also my skin texture is looking better. The acne marks on my cheeks (Especially my right) seem to have drastically reduced overnight?? The pimples on my lip are completely gone and have only left small marks of discoloration (not too noticable) My chin had 2 whiteheads on it when i woke up, but they drained after washing my face by the end of the day one of the whiteheads had "refilled"? and become painful Like yesterday, I woke up with my skin feeling really moistutized instead of flaky A tiny bit of dryness remained around my mouth My forehead is looking really clear aside from some discoloration The deep "underground" pimple is pretty muuch gone. Application This morning I washed my face with a little sulfacleanse Used my wet washcloth to gently remove dry skin I applied a thick layer of moisturizer I took my doxycycline Before bed I washed my face with my cerave I applied adapelene I moisturized Feelings/Thoughts/Observations My acne marks are looking really minimal today! Notes If you guys have questions or advice feel free to comment! Im trying my best not to pick at pimples and so far im really impressed with my self control I recieved a comment on my blog, which is now deleted, asking "why the **** anyone would want to read my blog," especially when its day by day with so much information. Well truthfully i dont know. I mostly am writing this blog for myself to look back on my own progress. But if it helps someone else out there thats great too.
Skin Condition Skin redness seems to be minimal like it usually is Lots of acne marks still on my cheeks, one whitehead on my left cheek No whiteheads on my chin this morning which is a nice surprise Just like yesterday my skin was quite dry and flakey. Dryness around my pimples (yay) Not as dry around my eyes as yesterday (yay) Not as dry around my mouth (yay) But this is still the dryest area of my face my forehead looks relatively smooth but a whitehead has emerged The deep "underground" painful pimple is still hanging around Application This morning I washed my face with warm water and then a little bit of sulfacleanse Like yesterday I took a warm wet washcloth and GENTLY used circular motions to remove all the dry skin that needed to be shed (ew) I applied a thick layer of moisturizer After that dried I applied another layer of moisturizer in the areas that needed it I took my doxycycline Mid day I washed my face with warm water and my cerave hydrating cleanser. I wanted to feel fresh Before bed I washed my face with my cerave hydrating cleanser I applied a little moisturizer (i have an event tomorrow so I applied moisturizer before my adapelene to insure minimal dryness tomorrow) I waited 20 minutes I applied a small amount of adapene on my cheeks, forehead, and chin I applied more moisturizer I put a glob of vicks vapor rub on my one cystic "blind" pimple..... Ok I know this sounds crazy but this is a trick I have used in the past to bring cystic acne to a head, and its worked for me before. The reason I didnt do it the first day the cystic pimple arose is because it was the same day I was starting my new skincare routine and didnt want to bombard my face with SO MANY new products all at once. Now that my skin is somewhat adjusted to this regimen, I felt comfortable doing this spot treatment. Hopefully tomorrow this pimple will be at a head so i can SAFELY pop it and drain it. I try to keep popping to a minimum but in this case ill allow it. Ill detail how I pop my pimples tomorrow if I end up doing it. Feelings/Thoughts/Observations Im already seeing less dryness than yesterday which is really comforting. Hopefully i overcome this flakey stage quickly! I can do this! I want that big pimple under my nostril to leave!!! I might go to my derm and get it injected: this is a common process for cystic acne that I will go into more detail about if i choose to do it (but first i will see if my vicks vapor rub trick works) Notes If I have any new readers, Ill explain again that the reason Im choosing to list my Application process every day is to log it as it changes. Its already adapted a little over the first 5 days of treatment and I imagine it will adapt a lot more over the coming months. If you are interested in seeing the ORIGINAL routine given by my derm initially, go look at my blog description here (click read more). If you guys have questions or advice feel free to comment!
WEEK 3 RECAP By day 22-23, i saw major improvement. Minimal redness and my skin looked its best in a long time! On day 24 i got 3 little whiteheads near the corner of my mouth that stayed quite inflamed, even today (the 28th). On Day 26 i went to the dermatologist By day 27 i was still seeing lots of improvement aside from the 3 whiteheads mentioned before Day 28 i suddenly broke out on my chin Skin Condition My chin is breaking out red inflamed whiteheads. They werent there when i woke up but in full force by bedtime. my forehead is still quite clear skill facing many acne marks of course. Application This morning I washed my face with my sulfacleanse I applied some moisturizer I took my doxycycline Before bed washed my face i did NOT apply adapalene The reason is i drank very very little water today (oops) so my skin was dry, flaky and irritated. I didnt want to add adapalene to the mix. I put on hydrocolloid bandaids one on my chin and one on my cheek. (these drain my whiteheads over night, plus prevent me from picking) applied moisturizer Feelings/Thoughts/Observations After today i will be doing WEEKLY updates!! I wont specify my application every day, only on a weekly basis. Ill take note of important changes to my skin! Today i moved into my freshman college dorm Im thinking about doing progress photos on a monthly basis
Skin Condition The whitehead on my lip is gone, just a little redness remains The whitehead at the front of my eyebrow is gone and is now a little scab my forehead has a few red dots in the center, no whiteheads skill facing many acne marks Application This morning I washed my face with my sulfacleanse I applied some moisturizer I took my doxycycline Before bed washed my face applied adapalene I put on hydrocolloid bandaids one on my chin and one on my forehead applied moisturizer Feelings/Thoughts/Observations I think once i reach day 28 (the 4th week and almost the 1 month mark, i will start doing weekly updates instead of daily. The hydrocolloid bandaids worked well to drain some of the stubborn whiteheads i had! I will continue to use them!
WEEK 1 RECAP My skin got super dry around day 3 and is still dry on day 7. Im using lots and lots of moisturizer to try and combat it. Over the past week the overall redness of my face has become signifigantly better Im still getting pimples at a regular rate, but they go away faster and dont get as inflamed I got a cystic pimple (something ive only had one of before) but i believe its coincidence and not because of the treatment, and its shrinking Skin Condition My skin was redder than usual this morning. Nothing crazy but not how my skin usually looks when I first wake up on this treatment. Lots of acne marks still on my cheeks 3 red pimples on my lip now I felt some red painful areas on my chin in the morning and by evening they had turned into 3 tiny whiteheads My skin dryness isnt all that bad anymore. Only around my mouth is it still a little excessive, but I have it handled. Still takes a washcloth to remove dead skin in the morning and plenty of moisturizer throughout the day I have 1 red pimple on my forehead The deep "underground" pimple is smaller, dryer and less painful than yesterday Application This morning I washed my face with warm water and then my sulfacleanse I took a warm wet washcloth and GENTLY used circular motions to remove all the dry skin that needed to be shed I applied a thick layer of moisturizer After that dried I applied another layer of moisturizer in the areas that needed it I decided to ice my pimples again today because it worked really well yesterday. I focused on the deep underground pimple, the 2 on my upper lip, and the painful area on my chin that I assume will be a pimple soon. I took my doxycycline Midday I washed with warm water and a little hydrating cleanser Before bed I Washed my face with the hydrating cleanser I applied moisturizer (yes im switching it up again tonight and applying poisturizer before adapelene) because I have some plans tomorrow that I really want to minimize the dryness of my skin for I waited a little while I applied a small amount of adapelene on my cheeks, tip of my chin and forehead I waited a litte while MORE moisturizer!! Feelings/Thoughts/Observations Less dryness than yesterday so im continuing to see improvement in that department Even though my skin is still improving overall (in texture and acne marks), i do have a few more pimples going on than I did 2 or 3 days ago. It seems like the ice has made the big underground pimple start to go away, but im not cancelling my appointment scheduled for next thursday (8 days away) to get it injected just yet. This is because next thursday is the day before my birthday, so I want to keep the appointment in case any other cystic pimples emerge. I want to have clear skin for my birthday! Notes Take this weeks survey please! im curious to see you guy's experiences If you guys have questions or advice feel free to comment!
Skin Condition Per usual, my skin looks the least red in the morning Lots of acne marks still on my cheeks, no surprise The pimples on my lip continue to shrink and dry out The three tiny whiteheads on my chin have reappeared despite popping them so I guess thats a sign not to do that again I actually woke up with what i would describe as slightly OILY skin. Wow. Thats the first time that has happened since I started this treatment. It wasnt gross oily, but like, healthy oily. The one pimple on my forehead is almost gone The deep "underground" pimple still seems to be slowly dissapearing Application This morning I washed my face with my sulfacleanse (Im careful not to rub this in for too long because it can be drying. I dont use too much soap in the mornings) I took a warm wet washcloth and GENTLY used circular motions to remove all the dry skin that needed to be shed, which wasnt much at all this morning I applied a thick layer of moisturizer After that dried I applied another layer of moisturizer in the areas that needed it I took my doxycycline I applied some makeup (ive been getting into doing makeup on evenings before i go somewhere with friends) I applied green primer to combat redness BB cream on problem areas concealer on stubborn pimples light dust of translucent powder Before Bed Washed with cerave hydrating cleanser waited 20 minutes (usually durring this wait, my skin feels super dry and taut but it didnt today) Applied a pea sized amount of adapelene waited 5 minutes applied moisturizer Feelings/Thoughts/Observations Today has been my least dry day yet where the only flakes were on my upper lip and eyelids (the eyelids still confuse me since im not applying adapelene there) The big underground pimple continues to show improvement Notes If you guys have questions or advice feel free to comment!
Skin Condition The acne marks on my cheeks still improving, but today they seem to have taken a slight step back The discoloration on my lip is looking better than ever though My chin looking the most inflammed this morning with some new pimples popping up around my mouth. this is where i focused most of yesterdays exfoliation. So i think it was to blame. No dry skin this morning but my skin feels a little irritated. my forehead has lots of little red bumps and 2 red, inflamed whiteheads. This is the first time my forehead has looked this bad in a while The cystic pimple is super flat now I have some painful areas on my cheeks and around my mouth. whyy. Application This morning I washed my face with my sulfacleanse I applied some moisturizer I took my doxycycline I iced some of the bumps on my face. My forehead mostly. It seemed to redce some of the redness. Before bed I washed my face with my sulfacleanse I waited 20 minutes I applied my adapelene I waited 5 minutes I moisturized Feelings/Thoughts/Observations I skipped exfoliating today since i did a extra yesyerday and i dont wanna irritate too much, I think that extra exfolation yesterday caused todays issues. Im gonna start avoiding as much skin irritation as possible. Im going to cut down on exfoliating to once every few days and only exfoliate the areas that need it. Ive gotten spoiled by the trend of healing and improvement ive had with my skin. These last 12 days have been pretty good to me and now the first sign of a breakout has me really discouraged. Im hoping I can move back in the direction of improvement before my birthday...4 days away.
Skin Condition Skin redness seems to be minimal like it usually is Lots of acne marks still on my cheeks, no more whiteheads two small red pimples emereged on my upper lip. Nooo. No whiteheads on my chin Just like yesterday my skin was quite dry and flakey. Dryness around my pimples Not as dry around my eyes as yesterday (improvement!) Not as dry around my mouth, But this is still the dryest area of my face my forehead looks relatively smooth and the 1 whitehead is gone The deep "underground" pimple is still hanging around, it seems a little smaller since yesterday and no longer hurts my vicks treatment didnt bring it to a head but still seems to have helped Application This morning I washed my face with warm water and then a my hydrating cerave cleanser i didnt use sulfacleanse like i usually do because of an event tonight and i want to minimize skin flaking I took a warm wet washcloth and GENTLY used circular motions to remove all the dry skin that needed to be shed I applied a thick layer of moisturizer After that dried I applied another layer of moisturizer in the areas that needed it I iced the underground cystic pimple and the 2 new pimples in 10 minute intervals to decrrease inflammation before tonight (which really reduced the redness) I took my doxycycline I applied some makeup Moisturizer!! A light layer of BB cream on my cheeks A SUPER light dusting of translucent powder (i used a tiny fan brush) No concealer as much as i wanted to because i knew it would look bad on the dry patches Before bed Washed my face with cerave hydrating cleanser waited 20 minutes applied adapelene all over my face waited 5 minutes applied a thick layer of moisturizer Im running out of this particular moisturizer as ive owned it for quite some time. If anyone has suggestions for a hydrating moisturizer that isnt greasy, leave a comment! Feelings/Thoughts/Observations Less dryness than yesterday = steady improvement This could be of the precautions i took yesterday to apply moisturizer BEFORE adapelene (so my skin would be moisturized today) my skin overall is CLEARLY improving, but i do still get new pimples (like today) I want that big pimple under my nostril to leave!!! I made an appointment at the derm to get it injected next thursday (9 days away), so if its still there by then ill get it taken care of (and ill explain the process more) However before bed the pimple was looking pretty small so I might need to cancel my appointment. Notes If you are interested in seeing the ORIGINAL routine given by my derm initially, go look at my blog description here (click read more). If you guys have questions or advice feel free to comment!
Skin Condition today I woke up with skin that wasnt all that red at all. Even my acne seemed to be less red. My cheeks dont seem to have much acne on them anymore, just lots and lots of old acne marks my chin has a few dry scablike spots from where some whiteheads popped the night before last. my forehead is looking pretty good. Its really smooth aside from a few pink bumps and 1 whitehead. otherwise my skin texture looks good. The deep "underground" painful pimple just under my left nostril is still there. It doesnt hurt as much so progress maybe? Application This morning I washed my face with warm water before applying the sulfacleanse and briefly rubbing it in. I rinsed and tried to be careful to avoid my eye area. I applied a thick layer of moisturizer I took my doxycycline I washed my face in the middle of the day because i sweated a little and just wanted a refresher. I used mostly warm water and a tiny bit of my gentle cerave cleanser I applied my moisturizer Before bed I washed my face again with the gentle hydrating cerave cleanser waited 20 mins applied the adapalene all over my face waited 5 minutes applied my moisturizer Feelings/Thoughts/Observations My face has one or two little flaky bits that I was able to treat with some moisturizer... I noticed extra flakyness towards the end of the day Also towards the end of the day a few whiteheads popped up on my chin. i think this is good. my skin is clearing out. Because of the decreased redness in my skin today, the whiteheads arent even all that annoying. my period is coming to an end so maybe thats contributing to the reduced redness? My face seriously had little to no redness beyond areas immediately surrounding a pimple or acne mark. So thats nice
WEEK 2 RECAP By day 8 I saw improvement where my skin wasnt as dry, and by day 9 my skin had mostly adjusted to the adapelene and was no longer dry. (I still get a flakey patch here and there but nothing like i had the first week.) Over week 2, the redness of my skin was a rollercoaster. It was good on day 8-10 but for some reason day 11 brought about a wave of redness and irritation On Day 12 I experienced a moderate breakout on my forehead and on my right side of my chin, both of which are still there. By day 13 i decided to really avoid skin irritation and all costs and be extra extra gentle with my skin going forward Skin Condition The acne marks on my cheeks looked better today when i woke up than they ever have Same for the discoloration on my upper lip My chin is looking better too. still a little bumpy but only 1 whitehead The most irritation and acne is at the corners of my mouth , in the jowl area. I have lots of tiny hard whiteheads and a little redness in that area my forehead is looking less inflamed but it still has many, many bumps The cystic pimple is gone, but a small whitehead is in its place...weird Application This morning I GENTLY ashed my face with my sulfacleanse I applied some moisturizer I took my doxycycline Before bed I washed my face with sulfacleanse I applied a dot of moisturizer on a dry patch near my mouth I waited 20 minutes I applied adapelene all over my face I waited 5 minutes I applied moisturizer Feelings/Thoughts/Observations Still havent popped or picked anything since my "be gentle" epiphany...im proud. Im glad i didnt exfoliate the peeling on my face last night becauuse it would have been undessecary exfoliation. It seems to be gone on its own this morning. I might exfoliate tomorrow morning and make it a habit to exfoliate twice a week
Skin Condition Overally my skin texture looks better this morning My chin has a few small scabs that are going away, and now this one new inflamed region of like 3 whiteheads my forehead getting smoother by the day Application This morning I washed my face with my sulfacleanse I applied some moisturizer I took my doxycycline Iput a band aid with neosporin on the 3 inflamed whiteheads (they are in a cluster) Before bed I washed w sulfacleanse I applied adapalene I moisturized Feelings/Thoughts/Observations i go to the dermatologist tomorrow!
Skin Condition I woke up with my skin looking a little better. Its still a little red but i think thats from crying yesterday (emotional lol) My chin is improving. I had a small whitehead there this morning. The acne on the right side of my mouth and chin is still the most irritated part of my face but gettin better my forehead is still quite bumpy Application This morning I washed my face with my sulfacleanse I applied some moisturizer I took my doxycycline Before bed I suuper duper lightly exfoliated I applied moistutrizer on my entire face I applied adapelene i waited 20 minutes I applied some moisturizer to a dry patch I washed with sulfacleanse Feelings/Thoughts/Observations Im seeing signifigant improvemtnt today. My cheeks are super clear (Aside from old acne marks) Tomorrow is another big dar for me where id like my skin to be clear
Skin Condition I woke up with skin that looked just as red as yesterday if not more red My cheeks are still covered with deep red acne and acne marks, theres an additional whitehead or two the whiteheads on my chin seemed to have popped while i was sleeping (ew) and are kinda scabbed over now last night my forehead had lots of little bumps and that seems to have condensed down into 4 or 5 whiteheads.....i think thats a good thing?? my forehead looks smoother overall The deep "underground" painful pimple just under my left nostril is still there. not sure if its doing any better or worse Application This morning I washed my face with warm water before applying the sulfacleanse and briefly rubbing it in. I rinsed and tried to be careful to avoid my eye area. I applied a thick layer of moisturizer I took my doxycycline Before bed I washed my face with my cerave hydrating cleanser waited 20 minutes I applied the adapelene ONLY on areas with highly concentrated pimples (cheeks, chin) I am going to go the first week alternating between using the adapelene all over my face and using it only in areas of high concern. The reason for this is I dont want to apply too much adapelene on areas where I have no pimples like my jawline and cheekbones. After the week is over and my face is better adjuusted to the adapelene I think I will use it nightly over my entire face. waited 5 minutes applied my moisturizer Feelings/Thoughts/Observations My face feels a little drier today but nothing insane. Im not peeling yet either. Still on my period, not sure if thats adding additional acne to my face still praying that if I experience the initial breakouts from adapelene that it happens soon and is over qickly. Notes Im already seeing how flexible this routine is going to become in the future, but as of now I think I will strictly stick to the routine above, where the only fluctuation night to night is how much (if any) adapelene I apply. I will try to not go ovverboard in the beginning, but eventally I intend to apply it on my entire face nightly
Skin Condition The acne marks on my cheeks have gone back on track to improvement The discoloration on my lip is also looking improved this morning My chin looking better too. It used to be quite bumpy but this morning it looks really smooth and the any bumps have condensed to 4 tiny whiteheads The most irritation and acne is at the corners of my mouth I have some painful areas on my cheeks and around my mouth. I have lots of tiny hard pimples, which is good i think, they are drying up my forehead is looking less inflamed but it still has many bumps The cystic pimple is nearly gone (the only reason im still addin this to the blog is to track how long it takes to fully heal) Application This morning I GENTLY ashed my face with my sulfacleanse I applied some moisturizer I took my doxycycline Before bed Wash face with sulfacleanse wait 20 minutes apply adapelene wait 5 min apply moisturizer Feelings/Thoughts/Observations Im putting in extra effort to be super gentle with my skin now I saw some peeling after I washed my face but i didnt touch it. I want to try and avoid most if not all exfoliation. I will exfoliate A LITTLE tmoorrow morning if nessecary.
Skin Condition Once again I see subtle improvement this morning The redness of my skin is minimal Aside from old marks my cheeks are clear My chin has a few small scabs that are going away my forehead is nice and smooth with the exception of a couple bumps Little to no active pimples on my face, just a lot of old marks and bumps Application This morning I washed my face with my sulfacleanse I applied some moisturizer I took my doxycycline Before bed I washed w sulfacleanse I applied adapalene I moisturized Feelings/Thoughts/Observations I cant wait to take a photo on day 30 and see my progress. I had some whiteheads b4 bed, particularly a grop of 3 by my chin that was pretty inflamed
Skin Condition My skin looks super good this morning! Minimial redness, no whiteheads, and few red bumps. By the time bedtime rolled around i had sweat throughout the day, and i had a few whiteheads My chin feels pretty smooth The acne on the right side of my mouth is going away. the area is just slightly redder than the rest of my face my forehead is actually pretty smooth! Only a few bumps Application This morning I washed my face with my sulfacleanse I applied some moisturizer I took my doxycycline I applied makeup Primer BB cream Translucent Powder Before bed I washed with sulfacleanse I waited 20 minuted I used adapalene I moisturized Feelings/Thoughts/Observations There is a general trend of improvement with my skin. I still get a few whiteheads here and there but nothing crazy. I think sweating in makep wasnt great for my skin though These last few days have been pretty emotional and tomorrow could be the most emotional day yet (the person closest to me is leaving for college 10 hours away two days from now, and tomorrow will be the last time i see him)
WEEK 2 RECAP By day 15, the breakout i got a few days before was beginning to show sign of improvement, but not fast enough. On day 16, my birthday, my skin improved greatly. Still very red but no big active pimples anymore. On Day 17-18 i saw further improvement and i concluded that the breakout was over. I think/hope that was my initial breakout. By day 19-20 i noticed my skin getting a little dry again. There was on scaley patch on my chin. On day 21 it got a lot better though Skin Condition I woke up with my forehead looking pretty smooth overall besides one whitehead and a few small red bumps. My cheeks look pretty good, only acne marks, but they are still a little red looking near my mouth. I have a lot of healing to do. My chin still seems to be fluctuating, and gets waves of redness. Application This morning I washed my face with my sulfacleanse I applied some moisturizer I took my doxycycline Before bed I washed my face with sulfacleanse I applied a dot of moisturizer on a dry patch near my mouth I waited 20 minutes I applied adapelene all over my face I waited 5 minutes I applied moisturizer Feelings/Thoughts/Observations I popped the pimple on my forehead, it was huge
In an effort to go gentle on my skin, for the last 10 days I have used the sulfacleanse every other night and I have taken the doxycycline once a day. This was to allow my skin to adjust to these products before introducing the adapelene gel, the strongest of the medications. Today will be day 1 of my FULL regemen inculding the adapelene. So far, over the past 10 days I havent really noticed my acne reducing in amount, but mostly a reduction in the overall redness of my skin. So thats what my starting point will be. Skin Condition I am starting with pretty red, broken out skin. My cheeks are covered with deep red acne and acne marks my chin has plenty of marks and white heads my forehead has lots of little bumps. I have a deep "underground" painful pimple just under my left nostril. Hopefully that subsides instead of emerging as a giant whitehead Application In the Morning I washed my face with sulfacleanse I moisturized I took my Doxycycline with lots of food and water Before getting into bed (where I am now) I washed my face with a gentle cerave cleanser waited 20 mintues applied a pea sized amount of Adapelene by dotting it around my face and then rubbing it in waited 5 minutes applied my moisturizer Feelings/Thoughts/Observations So far so good. I didn't expect to discover much after this first application I am currently on my period, and I tend to get a little more acne flareups around that time. im taking that into account but with the rate that I get acne these days its hard to tell whats from my period and what isnt. My skin feels a little tight everywhere except my forehead. My forehead is where I'm usually oiliest so that's probably why its still nice and moisturized in that area. I've read from other experiences from people on Adapelene that I can expect to experience EXTREME skin dryness and flaking along with an initial breakout soon. Hopefully if I am going to experience either of those, they come and go quickly. I usually wake up in the morning with generally calmer looking skin from the evening before (less redness), but with an extra whitehead or two on my cheeks, chin or forehead, so we will see.
Notes This Blog will probably maintain a format similar to this one but its flexible to adjust to whatever information I find useful to add The reason I plan to explicitly state my application process each blog post is because I expect it to adapt and change as I go I will probably update the blog every day at least in the beginning and maybe less frequently as I go...I will see I am taking progress photos but to be completely honest I don't feel brave enough to share them. Maybe at the end of my journey I will feel differently and add some photos. Right now i'm mainly using the photos to track my own progress and detail it here.
Skin Condition Today my skin looks exceptionally better. Arguably the best its looked in the past month. My cheeks of course have acne marks but they dont look too red today. My chin has 2 whiteheads that have popped and are healing my forehead has a few bumps but overall its clear and theres no redness Application This morning I washed my face with my sulfacleanse I applied some moisturizer I took my doxycycline before bed i ddnt wash my face again because it felt very clean and i want to apply my adapalene and go straight to bed, instead of having to wait. we will see how this impacts my skin I applied adapalene I applied moisturizer Feelings/Thoughts/Observations Once i hit 30 days I will post a before picture and a 1 month progress photo
Skin Condition The acne marks on my cheeks are really diminishing. The redness on them is minimal The acne marks on my upper lip are almost gone My chin is looking pretty good, at least on most of it still a little bumpy My worst acne right now is on the right side of my mouth and chin. It is kind of scabbed, and there are lots of tiny hard whiteheads. Its also the reddest part of my face my forehead is looking slightly better but not by much. It still has lots of pimples going on. The cystic pimple that dissapeared had a whitehead take its place yesterday, but it seems to be gone now. Application This morning I washed my face with my sulfacleanse I applied some moisturizer I took my doxycycline Mid day I showered and used a washcloth to SUPER SUPER SUPER gently grase the skin and give my skin some super light exfoliation I plan to do this twice a week. I moisturized Before bed I washed my face with sulfacleanse I waited 20 minutes I applied adapelene only on areas with a lot of pimples I applied moisturizer I applied neosporin directly on top of 3 of my inflamed, scab-like pimples to try and heal them up and then but a tiny bandaid on top I want my skin to look as clear as possible tomorrow!! (my birthday) Feelings/Thoughts/Observations Tomorrow is my birthday and i was hoping my skin would be pretty clear by then. It looks like that isnt gonna be the case but I can only hope my skin will look better tomorrow than it did today.
