Day 85

Wanted to give everyone out there some inspiration! here is a run down of my last month an a half
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Day 47? April 25 Think this last week was the turning point. I only had 1 pimple above the my mostache line and one on the side of my chin. Both were very small. My face is continuing to heal, but I am worried I will have scars around my mouth when all is said and done. Honestly I have a feeling my acne will not come back as the medication kicked in so quickly, hopefully the next few months will be over kill. Also haven’t actually seen much progress on my blackheads, still lingering around   Side Effects: Dry nose Bloody nose Dry lips Dry arms Face flushing Day 54?  May 2nd   Things are still going well, I have three actives (2 very small ones and a largers one on my upper cheek) Other than that, things have een going really good. I am happy with the progress I have made thus far. I think this next month 2-3 will really clear me up, and hopefully by the end of this quarter I will be looking clear.  There is light at the end of the tunnel! I just got to hold on!   Day 61? May 9th Have only 2 actives, one still from last week. I am really starting to gain my confidence back! Looking forward to this next month, I have high hopes. My back is almost completely clear as well! Lips are chapped to shit, other than that nothing major.  Sometimes I will have a stomach ach, and I will sometimes feel a little more out of it than usual 2nd month complete! Were cruisin along now May 16th (Day 68?) So I just had my end of 2nd month appointment ( actualy 10th week) She says I am clearing up very well, and making great progress!  I decided to stay at the 60mg a day dosage for 1 more month because the medication is working! I am happy to be coasting for the next few months, and am optimistic I wil be very clear after this month.  I only had 1 new active pimple last week, and it was really small. One pimple has been lingering for the last 2 weeks but its hidden under my hair.    Side effects: I finally noticed it is very easy to get sunburned :(, so I am going to start wearing sunscreen more often. Also my lips have been getting thrashed, constanty peeing and dry.  Overall blood work looks fine, and I don’t seem to have any extreme side effects!  Hopefully things stay good!   Red marks still there, but fading….slowly May 23 rd day  Day 78 Well I only got one very small pimple last week!  I think I will stay relatively clear for the remainder of my time on accutane. At this point it is just a waiting game for my old acne marks to clear up. Luckily it is manageable at this point, and I don’t have to worry all that much about how I look.  I will be busy with school for the next 2-3 weeks so I hope to continue the clear up process before summer starts.   Side effects: chapped lips, back beginning to get sore, easily sunburned bummer cause I am a surfer and outdoorsy person   Side note: retin-A definatly made my acne worse when I was on it.  I am glad I tried to use it prior to Accutane, but god damn that stuff sort of wrecked me. Also it was annoying using it every night as directed. Much easier taking a pill twice a day   May 30th Day 85 Only one new pimple this past week, that never fully developed.  Still bummed on the PIH marks from past acne, and minor acne scars (very small, only noticeable under bright light and up close).  Looks like I will be consistently improving from now on, as I haven’t had a break out in nearly a month.  Stoked to be clear soon, and gain my confidence back again.  I feel liberated from this acne curse Side Effects:chapped lips,  dry skin, slow healing,

6 months and done

Sept 17th Day 190? I wanted to make a post today, to give people inspiration and insight into Accutane journey.  I will try my best to do a few post Accutane entries as well Took my last pill today….6 months flew by  I am pleased to say I am nearly 100% clear  (only very very small pimple here and there, need be inches away from mirror to see). My acne really vanished by 2nd and half month on the medication. Today I am just left with some minor PIH and  slight uneven tone Never experienced an IB and side effects have been super manageable Side Effects: chapped lips, small dry skin patch under nose, sleep more than  usual (roughly 8 – 10 hours a night), facial redness/flushing, photosensitivity, unable to get tan (face way whiter than my body), nose bleed Facial Redness: my face will get really flushed and red after I exercise and especially if I am in the sun. I hope it wears off soon, I am looking to lose my photosensitivity so I can get tan again. Right now I am very white, unusual for me as I am a surfer in live in Southern California. I am going to ask the doctor if it could be rosacea, hoping its not. All in all, I would take Accutane again. I have regained most of my teenage confidence and feel like the person I used to.   My friendships and relationship have gotten much stronger in last few months since I have come back to myself. I really have struggled with my acne for the last year, and felt like I have lost precious time in my young life. At points in the last year I was to embarrassed to play sports with my roommates during daytime and feared surfing (something I Love) because I thought it would cause a breakout. That being said, I  have learned to be more compassionate, and grateful for the small things in life (a clear face for one!).  In the end, acne has taught me a lot about myself and though it was a shitty phase in my life, it has made me a stronger person.   Short Anecdote about self-confidence and acne: Around my 4th month on accutane I was in Australia doing a research program. At that point I wasn’t getting acne but I still felt like my skin was really blotchy and unattractive.  Anyway I sacked up and hit on this absolute babe.  We talked for a while and meet up later, where things progressed.    My point is, we all judge our skin harder than others and pick out flaws no one else would see or care about.  Even when I thought my skin was still shitty, I was seen as attractive to a girl who was for sure a 9 or 10.  Hope that shows everyone not be so critical and self conscious about their skin.  Get out there and be yourself, good things are bound to happen; but only if you make an effort.   Another thought: Something to keep in mind!   Lot of people have taken Accutane. One of my roomates had taken it, and I would have never expected it!  His skin is absolutely flawless. Just because your skin is “bad” right now,  doesn’t mean it cant/won’t look flawless soon enough! Dosage 1st month- 40mg 2nd-60mg 3rd-60mg 4th -80mg 5th-80mg 6th-80mg

10 Month and after Accutane

10 months now, things are still looking good. having a small breakout right now but I am not worried.  No negative side effects from accutane to report. Life is good. Dealing with some other health related things, but nothing major.  Skating a bunch more these days, have a new girl in my life, and conducting research at a top ranked university. never thought I would be here when acne controlled my life. keep it up y'all. I post on this site to try and give people the hope/inspiration they need during this phase in life. I sure needed it last year

Its been about 5 months, everything is still clear!
no weird side effects
feel like myself, no hair loss, no mood /personality change
Keep it up to whoever is on the accutane course right now,  it will get better

been a while since I have been on here, but wanted to post to keep peoples spirits high!

goodluck! and keep a smile on your face

2 and half months

Its crazy how far I have come over a year. Last thanksgiving I was so bummed and sad seeing my family because my acne had gotten so bad.

this year I was so stoked to not worry about my acne. My skin is still almost 100% clear and haven't had to worry about my acne at all.

Accutane has improved my life so much.  dont regret the decision to take it at all
Wow its been month and half since I finished accutane

Almost all side effects  have dissapeared!  And acne has not returned at all!

Stick with it!  I will try and keep you all updated

-It gets easier from here everyone, just remember
