For the past two weeks my skin pretty much stayed the same (except some small breakouts here and there because of hormonal imbalances), there isn't a lot of improvements and there isn't any worsening. One thing that I did notice is that because I have been lazy in putting on sunscreen, that my skin would get pretty red (around my cheeks) after a couple minutes under the sun. I still have my old scars, and my open pores are still open (ughhh I hate them). But besides that , my skin is healing from the minor breakout from last week. There isn't much difference in the past two weeks.
This week i broke out a bit because its the week before the time of the month (I usually breakout the most during this time). I counted and this time I only had about 3-4 active pimples, a lot better compared to before. There were two that were active but died out really quickly, and one that is quite persistent for the past 3 days. As for the usual stuff, there is almost little to no flaking, but there are still scars that are still there that have been there for like a month or so. I am hoping the scar really does disappear or just becomes close to disappearing/gone, but so far, the scars seem the same as whether I did put on tretinoin or not. My open pores are still open, nothing changed, and I still have blackheads on my nose ( I now apply tretinoin on my nose for the past week).
My skin is very smooth now, well it feels very smooth, but whether it looks smooth, I don't know. I hardly get any breakouts, except for blackheads, and that is pretty much it for this week. The only thing now that still lingers are the scars and discolorations, but I know that it takes a while for them to lessen or disappear, so I'll be patient. There is no flaking now. My open pores are still open. My face looks the same from before, but with no active pimples and scabs.
Things have been looking a lot better, I have been flaking less, and there is a lot less active acne (I only see one so far and a couple of blackheads). Though there is still hyper pigmentation that has not yet gone away. I realized from the start that I had some open pores, and comparing now and then, there seems to be no difference, my open pores are still very visible. I still have blackheads on my nose, but that is because I have applied Tretinoin on there, I don't know if I am suppose to or not (so can some please tell me if it is alright to apply tretinoin on my nose?) . But besides that things have been looking pretty well so far.
Happy Valentine's Day guys!! With this week being the fourth week, a month since I started using Tretinoin 0.025% as a night cream and Benzoyl Peroxide 5% for day cream. The flaking really did reduce compared to two weeks ago, though there is still some flakes when I wipe my face on a dark shirt when I exercise. My menstrual breakout was not as bad as I predicted, but there were still some white heads. The upper part of my face is pretty clear (my forehead, temples, and the part under my eye and beside my nose), but my bottom face still contains a lot of hyper pigmentation (on my jawline and my chin). I think that I found a way to reduce the burning when I apply sunscreen: I have to wait when the Benzoyl Peroxide dries up on my skin. The good thing about putting on sunscreen is that it makes my face whiter and it lightens my hyper pigmentation. I am predicting that my skin should not breakout that much this week because it is after my menstrual period, so hopefully my hyper pigmentation should clear up a bit at least.
This week is the third week, and I actually am seeing some improvement in my skin. The places that don't usually breakout (for me its my forehead) has gotten really clear. My left and right cheek is still breakout, but not as much. On Tuesday I picked on two pimples, but now they are almost healed, only that they left dark spots. Pretty much the healing process of a popped pimple is rather fast compared to what I had to go through. I am still flaking, but it is lessening also. This week should be the start of the week where my acne should be flaring up the most because of my menstrual cycle, but I am hoping that it is not too bad like usual since I am seeing some improvements. The only annoying thing so far is that I have to put on sunscreen everyday and it is sometimes inconvenient because I have to go to school, and so I have to excuse myself like 15 min before lunch starts to put on sunscreen, and I end up looking very pale afterwards and my my skin looked for flaky. My new sunscreen does burn my skin a little (just very little) when I first put it on in the morning, but then at the afternoon it doesn't burn.
So this week is my second week, and I have most of all the side effects of using Tretinoin in the initial process. Comparing the second week with my first week, my skin peeled less, but it still peels, I still do have initial breakouts here and there, but I always end up picking at them (I am assuming it is because I had finals this week and also some relationship tensions), but yes I know it is very bad. I now found out what made my skin burn, it was not the day cream of Benzoyl peroxide, but my sunscreen. It is very weird, so i switched my sunscreen this week. The place that breaks out the most is my right jaw. There is a lot of hyper pigmentation and breakouts there, not a good mix. My skin is now still very dry, tight, flaky, and some breakouts. Here is my daily routines for those who are curious
Morning -Cleanser with Lancome Gel radiance (I am planning to change it to something less drying like Ultra Gentle Cleanser by Neutrogena, but i want to use this up first) -No 9 eye cream -Benzoyl Peroxide 5% - Dry touch Ultra sheer 45 spf sunscreen (this is the new one that has not burned me yet)
Night - Lancome Gel Radiance Cleanser -No 9 eye cream -Benefique moisterizer (mixed with tea tree oil) -Tretinoin 0.025%
This Wednesday marks the first week that I have used Tretinoin, and so far things have not been looking as well yet. The first couple of days that I started to use Tretinoin and Benzoyl Peroxide seemed great. But then 4 days after, when I put on the Benzoyl Peroxide my skin burned. It really hurt so I stopped for the rest of the week. During my first week of Tretinoin my skin flaked so much. My friends saw my skin and they just said that it looked disgusting and stuff like that. I also had some burst of new breakouts, but I read a lot of articles and blogs that its the initial breakout and that the tretinoin is bringing out stuff that blocked my pores, so the breakout is expected. Regarding the flaking, I read that it's the inital process for my skin to get use to the cream, so I guess that I'll just have to wait through it. Regarding my acne, my forehead is pretty clear, thought with some hyper pigmentation. my T-zone is pretty good too, but also with some hyper-pigmentation. The worst part would be the side of my chin, and my lower cheeks. Those places flaked the most and also I am breaking out the most there. I hardly breakout on my left cheek but recently I had some pustules acne and it left hyper pigmentation. My right cheek is the worst of everything, it has hyper pigmentation, pustules, and also recently (like three days ago) whiteheads have been arising. I just hope that the flaking lessens by the second week.
Hi guys so an introduction of me would be like I am 17, and I have been suffering through this for about 5 years, and this year, as my new year's resolution, I will try my very best to get rid of my acne. I am so tired of being so self- conscious about myself, which made me develop a habit of shying away from making eye contact with people that I talk to. I remember when I was little and watching the Proactive commercials and the people in the commercials saying that acne can effect a person's confidence. I was really confused at how that could happen, until now I realize. Beautiful skin might come easily for everyone, but for some people it is a long journey, or a hard fought battle.
I created this blog so that I can keep track of my acne progress as i have just been prescribed Tretinoin (aka Retin-A) 0.025% as night cream, and Benzoyl Peroxide as day cream.
