Struggling

I don't know how long I've been doing my regimen now, I stopped keeping track. Acnessentials clogs my pores, but I find without niacinamide my skin is oily. I had my testosterone levels tested and will see my doctor next week to get results. This was my psychiatrist that suggested I have that tested if I am possible PCOS, not my actual family doctor. I am disappointed my family doctor doesn't do anything unless I ask for it. I think I'm going to try to move my derm appointment to sooner bec

Diagnosis

I got my results from my ultrasound from my doctor today. The findings are consistent with PCOS, but the changes are mild so a definitive diagnosis of PCOS can't be given. My doctor told me the best things to do if I have PCOS are heavy cardio workouts, low carb diet and stay away from sugary foods. If my periods continue to get longer, I will go back and see her and go from there. Its not going to be easy to make those lifestyle changes for me, but I'm trying. I've never had to worry abo

Week 6

I'm going to focus less on the cause of my acne in this post and more on how my current regimen has helped my skin. The original reason I switched up my regimen is because I was getting small non-inflamed comedones, so little skin coloured bumps that when squeezed had stringy pus inside. I am no longer getting those I think the exfoliation and AHA is helping that. My skin is no longer oily as well. It was never overly oily before, but now there's nothing at all. The dryness has al

Quick Update (Day 40)

I feel a bit better today after my ultrasound. I booked a follow up with my doctor in a week to get my results. I did cave and use BP tonight though. I pretty much immediately regretted it, so I won't be doing that again. Despite having at least one new pimple every day, my skin is otherwise doing well with the natural regimen I am using. I haven't been oily or over dry in a little while now. The pimples will get dry and flakey, but the rest of my skin stays hydrated. My "treatment" cream, the n

:(

I'm so frustrated I just want to cry. I feel like my doctor isn't taking me seriously. I have an ultrasound scheduled for tomorrow, but then I won't actually get the results for a few weeks. And if nothing is wrong, she won't call at all. But even if the ultrasound doesn't show anything, something is wrong! Run some blood tests to test various hormone levels or something. I guess I'm also frustrated at the amount of time this all takes. The more time passes, the worse my acne gets. I'm not exagg

Week 5

Still no improvement, and my SAP/niacinamide cream is unavailable for me to purchase right now, and I'm running low. I started only using it in the morning so I don't totally run out. I am going to see my doctor tomorrow to ask about getting an ultrasound to see if I have PCOS. I'm convinced that's the problem, but this will either confirm or rule it out. I'm worried because I don't have the "classic" signs of PCOS, like weight gain or severe extra hair growth. I have some extra hair on m

Week 4

So I'm feeling defeated. My skin was perfect for a few days after my period. No new pimples. And now in the last two days I've had at least 5 new inflamed pimples. This is how I know it has nothing to do with what I put on my face or what I put in my body. If it had to do with either of those things, my acne wouldn't change so drastically. I'm going to try to move up my doctor appointment because once I see my doctor, I'll have to wait probably another week to get an ultrasound, and things are j

My Trip To The Derm

I was so anxious and stressed for no reason. I forgot how wonderful my derm is. I feel like she actually listened. Because my skin is so sensitive and she didn't see any active pimples today (I'm having a good day), she prescribed me Finacea, a natural ish cream to help with redness, which is really my main problem. She said it can take up to 4 months to start to see improvement, but as long as its gentle, I really don't mind. I asked her if it could be hormonal because its just so strang

Quick Update

I think at this point I might take a topical cream. I don't get pimples on my cheeks. The only time I ever did, I was 12/13 when my acne started, and it was because I had a pretty major surgery and my period actually stopped for a few months because my body was so out of whack and needed to basically reset itself. I'm started to get non-inflamed comedones on my cheek area, and some turn into inflamed whiteheads. On another note though, starting today I am not going to pick for 15 days and

Derm On Monday!

I'm SO excited to see my derm on Monday. I'm sure this is too much information, but I think its pertinent so I'm gonna say it anyway. My period was almost 4 days late this time around. I have pretty regular cycles, average 31 days, never longer that 32. This time around it was 35. Not danger zone, but still not normal. If I didn't have any other body changes, I would probably ignore it and pass it off as nothing, but I have other symptoms, as you know if you have read past posts. So I will make

Almost Week 3 *pics*

*See pics labelled Mar 4* I was seeing improvement in my skin, no new pimples for maybe two or three days, then I steamed my face because I noticed I was getting closed comedones and now I have big red inflamed pimples everywhere. Note to self: no more steaming. Bad steaming. I feel disappointed. I feel like I want to go back to using BP because at least I know that works. Although I know it won't work for long because my skin will start to get irritated and I'll end up worse off. I

Week 2-Regimen And Products

Well, I feel like my skin is getting better, but its also the week before my period when my skin normally does get better anyway so its not really reliable. I'm still getting a new pimple every day, and today I got what I can only assume is a cyst from the pain and ache. I'm going to ask on the forum because I've never gotten anything like it before. I've had painful deep pimples before they come to a head, but this one has come to a head and I can still feel the pain in my bone. I saw my

Diet

I just want to make it clear that I have not changed, and probably will not, change my diet. I love cheese and I love chocolate. I also love fast food. Not that I don't eat healthy stuff like fruits and veggies, but I really am not the type of person to completely cut out dairy or gluten or whatever else might cause acne. I am completely healthy, I take many vitamins to make sure I get everything I need, and I drink plenty of water. I was a vegetarian for 6 years and for those 6 years I was tire

Week 1

So week 1 is actually tomorrow, but I won't have time to write tomorrow so I'm going to write today. No pictures because its all pretty much the same, with the addition of a few new inflamed pimples. I do have some interesting news though. When I steamed my face I got most of the blackheads out of my nose, and they haven't reappeared like they usually do. That gives me an indication as to what is causing my acne. If it were any of the products I am using, the blackheads would be back. Als

Pictures Feb13-16

(Feb 13-16 is how long I've been using my regimen.) So I find it more helpful when there are pictures involved, so I took pictures of my skin today before and after makeup. For some reason I can't attach pictures directly to this post, so I will just continue to add pictures to my album. I will hopefully continue to take pictures weekly to see my progress. I say hopefully because it upsets me to take pictures of my hideous skin As you can see, I have a few bumps, but my main problem

Oh Hormones

So I've been reading now that acne and my migraines can actually be linked to ovulation. I've been tracking my migraines and they do seem to occur when I'm supposed to be ovulating. My question is: If my acne is a normal skin reaction to my normal hormone fluctuations, why should I be ashamed and embarrassed? I am otherwise doing everything I can to prevent my acne, other than going on BC pills because I no longer believe in altering my natural hormones. So I'm going to think about it lik

I Am Determined!

So I resorted to steaming my face tonight. I'm very impatient. I steamed to open my pores then squeezed as many of those white and black heads as possible. My skin is very red and mad now, obviously. From what I've read though, the only way to get rid of those is to get them extracted, so I just did it myself. I woke up with a new big red pimple today too again, and two little ones on my upper lip. I don't understand. My skin was doing so well just two months ago. I haven't changed anythi

Non-Inflamed Whiteheads

I've been getting a lot of non-inflamed whiteheads lately, especially now that I've stopped using the BP. The problem with the BP was I needed to use it every day to control the whiteheads, but my skin can't take that abuse. It would get irritated and dry and I would end up with more inflamed acne. I've decided I would rather have non-inflamed acne lol. I'm hoping since green tea has been shown to be as effective as BP that they will start to go away slowly, but I'm going to add AHA every other

Supplements

So on top of using natural skin care products for my acne, I have also been taking supplements. According to posts on AcneEinstein, people with acne have lower levels of zinc. They also are more prone to oxidative damage to the sebum, which causes acne. So, approximately 15 days ago I started taking a zinc, antioxidant and vitamin E supplement on top of my daily "multivitamins". Its too early to notice any changes yet. I'm not expecting to see miracles after only 15 days. Even if they don't help

The Beginning

Alright folks. Here it goes. The only thing that has ever worked for my acne is BP, but I can't use it very often because my skin is so sensitive. I mean if I so much as touch my face it turns red. So I've been reading a lot of posts on AcneEinstein, which is natural, science based treatments for acne, and I read one post that shows green tea is just as effective as BP for acne without all the side effects. I also read that antioxidants are very good for acne, especially Niacinamide and SAP (a v
