Coming to the end of week 6 now. Started using Cetaphil gentle wash and Cetaphil daily facial moisturizer with SPF 15. Got my 6 week check up with my derm on Tuesday, do not think ill get a dosage increase due to me being on 60mg a day and weighing 70kg. Started to get a rash on my top part of my hands but nothing a little aqueous cream can't sort out. Still getting spots every other day, the initial breakout "seems" to be calming down (touch wood). I've grown abit of a beard to try and hide the spots but its abit patchy so i think ill need to shave it off in the coming weeks which i would rather down because it hides some of the spots. My nose is more or less completely rid of blackheads which is a plus. I seem to be getting weird random spots like one on leg, one back of ear etc. I've cut down on the milk intake, i only have 3 glasses a day all with my tables to insure im getting as much fat as possible. Also eating alot of peanut butter. I keep asking myself this stupid question and kept getting disheartened 'If Accutane didnt work the first time, why would it work the second time' - I have read and understand acne gets better after every course but still destroying my hope for this course to work, finger cross it does though. Quick question - My Cetaphil moisturizer has SPF 15 in it and my course will run through the winter time would having SPF just clog up my pores and cause more spots or wouldn't it matter? And after the initial breakout whats the chances of getting a secondary breakout down the line? Thanks Thinking positive and praying everyday!
Hey everyone, The dry lips are coming on strong now, i'm using Vaseline and aquaphor lip treatment which works very well, i still have to apply it a lot throughout the day. My oily skin has basically vanished, i am now just using Cetaphil gentle cleanser once on the night and it seems to be doing the job. Still getting the odd new spot here and there but they seem to go away ALOT quicker than before. Some parts of my face are starting to flake so i have ordered the Aquaphor soothing skin balm which i intend to put on thick overnight: http://www.boots.com/en/Eucerin-Aquaphor-Soothing-Skin-Balm-40ml_1235541/?cm_mmc=pla-_-google-_-PLAs-_-Boots+Shopping+-+Category+-+Beauty I will review this product in my week 3 update. One thing i've been making sure i do is take the pills with a high fat meal. I've bought a blender and have stared making smoothies that are high fat with stuff such as avocados, yogurts, milk etc. If i eat a meal which isn't high fat i just make a high fat smoothie and take it with that. I believe the main reason why my acne came back after first course was because i was just taking tablets as i pleased and not with a meal. Overall everything has been going fine. It has surprised me that just after 14 days (on 60mg a day/ weighing 67kg) that it has gotten rid of my oily skin which used to be VERY oily, i would wash my face with a deep scrub and half an hour later it would be oily again. Fingers Crossed
Hello, Well 1 week in now, i have had major breakouts but don't know whether it is because i have switched from using a salicylic acid exfoliating wash and a sulfur soap bar to just a gentle face wash twice a day. I'm still putting my Epi-duo (2.5% BP) on my spots during the night to try and get rid of them. At the end of week 1 i can really start to feel my lips beginning to dry out which i didn't expect to start so early but I've stocked up on lip care such as tubs of Vaseline, keeping a large tub at home and constantly keeping small tins with me. I heard a lot about this product which I've ordered but haven't tried yet: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Aquaphor-On-The-Go-Dual-Pack-Ointment/dp/B001IAG7G2 After just washing my face with a gentle face wash after week 1 it is making it feel nice and clean, i don't have to scrub hard with various different products to achieve this which is excellent. Apart from the dreadful first few days it is going 'okay' up till now, i know its only early days but i've got some hope back in eventually getting rid of my horrid acne and getting back to my normal life again.
Hello everyone I've decided to make a blog through my second course of accutane journey. The main reasons for this blog is that if anyone has any advice for me and another reason is to just share my experience because i find it better to get it out of my system. I took my first course in 2011 and my skin was good for about a year then got progressively worse and i tried EVERYTHING humanly possible from scrubs, masks, sea salt, oral antibiotics (Trimethoprim etc), sunbeds, the awful proactiv, BP, saylic acid products and so much more but have decided to have another go at Accutane because I've read that 'Two Is The Magic Number', the chance of acne coming back after each course becomes less and less and the first course got rid of my back/chest/shoulder acne so now I'm hoping the second course gets rid of my (oily) facial acne. I found this website helpful when researching about Accutane Diet and Dosage: http://practicaldermatology.com/2014/01/on-dosage-and-diet-isotretinoin-101 I am paying for this course privately and it'll cost me around the £1500 mark so I'm focusing all my attention on the course, for instance I've read that taking pills over the course of the day is better than taking them all at once and taking the pills with 'high fat' food will make the drug more effective. I am a 21 year old male with oily spot prone skin, i only have constant acne on my face and occasionally on my back and chest. I weigh 67kg and my private dermatologist has prescribed me with 60mg per day for my second course so i guess here goes... Well Day 1 Update: My face is still VERY oily with spots on my cheeks/jawline/chin and slightly on forehead. Nose is riddled with blackheads and oil. I know its early days so not really expecting much. (I will try and upload some pictures at some point) Thanks
