Well here I am at month 4...and unfortunately have not seen any improvement. My dermatologist was hesitant to up my dosage just because of the bloody noses I continue to have, so if anything, I may be kept on a longer course of treatment. Has this happened with anyone else? Feeling discouraged but I am definitely committed and hoping for a clear face soon! Happy healing #accutane
I am about a week into month three...and right now I am hoping this is the month to see a difference. I still have breakouts that are slowly starting to clear -- but my dermatologist was a little concerned. I don't have severe breakouts, they are just quite annoying. If he doesn't see any improvements by my next visit, my dosage may be increased. My symptoms are very minimal, I get a headache every now and then and my lips aren't too chapped! How was everyone's month three?! I know it's different for everyone, but I hope this is the month!! Happy healing
So I am now on day 3 of Month 2 dosage and feel like I'm getting better symptom wise every day. Everything that I told my dermatologist is normal -- so I am hoping it stays that way. I wanted to write today because I was wondering if any of you are experiencing these symptoms that are certainly tolerable, but I know there could be other products out there I can use to heal! 1) Cracked corner of my mouth -I've been using vaseline every morning & night and as needed -Using shea butter stick and other medicated chapsticks 2) Bloody noses (I used to get them all the time when I was younger so they're not a huge deal to me, but they are so chapped!) -I use saline spray every morning and night Anyone else experiencing these?! No matter what I do with the cracked corner of my lip, I feel like it won't heal since I'm not going to keep my mouth shut! haha Oh & last but not least -- headaches bother me sometimes too. This was the first thing my dermatologist asked me about so that makes me a little nervous. They're pretty tolerable though, but definitely prominent. Thanks & Happy healing!
Well....I know accutane is starting to work. My skin just feels different altogether. In just my third week of accutane, my skin is noticeably dryer & less oily -- I thought I would never see the day. I was out of town last week in sunny LA, and because I was busy -- my skin stayed mostly clear. I think that my worst habit is sitting in front of a magnified mirror and be disgusted with my skin. We're not perfect - if we were perfect, treatments would not exist...for anything. I still have some cystic breakouts and blackheads seem to be the most pertinent. Is this sounding normal? My lip also is extremely cracked in the corner -- I think that's what's bothering me the most. Right now I'm waiting for that clearer skin they told me I should see around month 2...I will try to keep posting but may do it as needed. Happy healing! (: & thanks for reading my rambles. -M
Time is certainly moving quick -- even though I still wish my skin would clear up overnight! I can tell that it is trying to, so that's good at least. I don't have much to say this week other than that I can tell the accutane is kicking in. My pores are definitely more visible....it's like all the bad is trying to leave which I could not be more excited about. I have a little more break outs than I've had in a while, but I keep telling myself that it will get better. After I posted my first week update, I caught a cold and was really achey. I thought that it was the accutane causing all of my symptoms, but luckily it was not! Just a cold I caught from someone, and I got over it pretty fast. Here's what's going on this week: -My pores are more visible -Some breakouts in places I haven't had in a while -Dry nose/above mouth (due to my cold...accutane didnt help either) -Dry lips My skin overall isn't that dry! I've just noticed that my t-zone is mostly where the dryness is. The lotion is working tremendously as is my lip regime. No complaints this week Hope it stays this way.
Well, here I am...writing about my first week of accutane. To be honest, I never thought I would start the journey of accutane -- I was used to hearing such negative things about it, but once my dermatologist asked if I wanted to keep wasting money on creams, cleansers and antibiotics, I knew it was time for a major change. I tried my best not to google about accutane since the negative stuff tends to be more pertinent. I stumbled across acne.org however, and loved that I could read the progress of others on accutane and compare my side effects/ changes with everyone else -- it is nice not being alone! : ) I thought I would track my progress weekly and start posting any side effects or really, skin changes that I notice throughout the course. I am taking 40mg of accutane (Claravis -- Isotretinoin capsules or whatever) once daily. Every time I take it, I always wonder how this tiny pill is going to change my skin. I couldn't be more excited. I did not notice my skin changing until day 5. How about everyone else? Here is what I am currently experiencing: Day 5: The start of itchy skin, mainly on my hairline and nose Day 6: More itchy skin, definitely my face -- sensitive skin* for sure, dry lips Day 7: Dry lips, itchy skin around neck, nose, corner of mouth & hair line *-- I have pretty sensitive skin, grew up with eczema and whenever I scratch, I tend to get really red so thats what I mean by sensitive skin For the most part, everything tends to be tolerable...I am hoping that the itchiness goes away, or that I just get used to it? I heard that the drying of the lips gets worse, but I'm ready for it. Here are the products I am currently using: Face: Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleansing Cloths Cetaphil Daily Advance Ultra Hydrating Lotion MAC Charged Water Lotion Lips: Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Swivel Stick (recommended!) Blistex Medicated Chapstick Carmex Chapstick Chapstick Moisturizer Vaseline I usually just carry the Palmer's Swivel Stick around with me because it lasts the longest for me, but I use the others sparingly and whenever I tend to have them around me. I definitely stocked up ... : ) My only question I have and hoping that someone can answer for me ... do you use the Cetaphil Advance Daily Ultra Hydrating lotion on your face?? I usually stick to only things that say for the face & that are light weight...in fear of clogging pores. I know it says it shouldn't clog pores but it still feels pretty heavy to me. Here's to an easy (hopefully) journey of getting the skin I have always wanted!
