Skintroduction - 012714

Skin is the largest organ in the body, and it unfortunately is the peskiest. I am LegalSkin, and I am a teenage girl who is intrigued, perplexed, and irked by skin. My blog's purpose is to serve as my "skin diary" to document my personal journey and to share tips, tricks, reviews, and more with the general public. Through all of this, I hope to achieve a better understanding of my own skin as well as to feel the best in it Some general background on me: - I am (as of this post) a junior in high school - I love art, especially realism. When I was younger I made comic strips, and now, as I get older, I am more fascinated with the body's form. My latest sketch was the cover of the movie The Notebook. - I'm an avid reader. I love all the classics, Utopian literature, and, most recently, classic science fiction. I just finished The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. Le Guin, and I am currently reading Childhood's End by Arthur C. Clarke. - I plan to major in chemistry (although I'm undecided in a specific field) and neuroscience. Ultimately, I want to go into neurochem research and run my own lab. - I am actively involved in public speaking. I am the Speech Captain of the high school Forensics team and take part in stage management during all major performances. - I absolutely love makeup. Humorously enough, I only wear light, natural looks, but the products themselves allure me... Especially brow products, mascara, powder foundations, and Asian BB creams. - I love travelling and dream of taking a world-tour someday. - I love 1980s hair metal bands (Def Leppard, Poison, Alice Cooper, etc.) and New Wave (Duran Duran, The Cars, aHa). Some general background on my skin: - I am extremely fair-skinned. Ever since I got very involved in skincare during my early teenage years, I've been obsessed with skin preservation and sun protection. As someone of almost entirely Polish background, I have the potential for very pale skin, and through daily usage of SPF 50 or higher and other preventative measures, I've maintained it. My closest foundation match is L'Oreal True Match in W1, but this is slightly dark on me. - I began breaking out in about 4th grade, and relatively badly. Between heavy makeup wearing, poor cleansing routines, and a severe allergic reaction, my skin throughout middle school was awful, but it led me to my interest in skincare. - Due to my skin's condition (as described above), I began seeing a dermatologist in the winter of my 8th grade year. I was on Benzaclin and Ziana for over 3 years. - During my freshman year, I began taking birth control as well. I use Reclipsen. - My skin is quite clear at this point in my life, but my major concerns are my acne scars (dark, flat patches of hyperpigmentation which are very prominent due to the paleness of my skin) and dark circles (which unfortunately run in the family and, again, stand out against my light skin). - My acne comes in a cycle that does not correspond with my menstrual cycle. Once a month for about a week my skin is majorly broken out, but it recuperates and is very clear the rest of the month. This "break out" week changes every month. - I have an occasional breakout on my chest and currently have some stubborn spots on my back, but these are of minimal concern at this moment. My current skin routine: - Cleanser: Boots Botanics Ultra Calm Gentle Cleansing Cream with Calming Marshmallow or Clean & Clear Morning Burst Fruit Infusions Purifying Cleanser with Mandarin Orange - Exfoliant: Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash Redness Soothing Cream Cleanser (left on in a thick layer for 10-15 minutes; contains AHAs and Lactic Acid, two ingredients which "eat" away the dead cells on the surface) - Spot Treatment: Equate Medicated Acne Gel (10% Benzoyl Peroxide) or Oxy Maximum Action Spot Treatment (10% Benzoyl Peroxide) - Moisturizer: Pond's Clarant B3 Dark Spot Correcting Cream, Clean & Clear Morning Burst Hydrating Gel Moisturizer, or Simple Protecting Light Moisturizer with SPF 15 - Eye Cream: Avon Solutions Plus+ Ageless Results Eye Cream, Neutrogena Healthy Skin Eye Cream, or Eclos Anti-Aging Restorative Eye Cream - Sunscreen: Neutrogena Age Shield Face Oil-Free Lotion with Broad Spectrum SPF 110, Mary Kay Suncare Sunscreen with Broad Spectrum SPF 50, or Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock with SPF 30 - Lip Balm: Any type of Chapstick or A+D Original Ointment With love, LegalSkin
