So far, so good. Side effects for me have been really minimal, the CeraVe facewash and lotion has been working really well for keeping the dryness at bay. I love this stuff, and will probably continue to use it after Im done with the Accutane. Im still using Proactiv a few times a weeks just to exfoliate whatever dry skin is there, and Im finding its less irritating on my skin now. The texture of the skin on my face is starting to really improve, and its so nice not to have to worry about being oily throughout the day. I no longer have to re-apply or fix my makeup multiple times. My back looks amazing, I was able to wear an open back dress for the first time ever on Friday night and its so great to not have to worry about people seeing any gross pimples or scars. I'd say its worth it just for the improvements Ive seen so far. I didn't take my pill on Friday night, as I knew I would be drinking, and I did notice that my skin was a little drier than usual for a few days afterwards. Oh well! Really loving the changes Im seeing so far, and can't wait for more improvement in the next few months.
Day 24! Had my first doctors appointment yesterday and she's very happy with my progress. Since my initial breakout I haven't had too much going on (knock on wood), no unusual dryness or irritation, minimal chapped lips but nothing too bad. I do have about a million blackheads but my doc assured me that would resolve itself in time. She's keeping me on 40mg/day for the next 3 months and we'll re-assess when Im done that to see if I need to do another month. So far I wouldn't say I've seen a huge improvement in my face, but my back is looking better. Baby steps!
Alrighty. I finally decided to take the plunge and try Accutane. I'm 28 and have had pretty bad acne since I was 13/14. Although it has improved over the last few years, its still pretty noticeable and since I'm getting married next year I thought I would give it a shot. As everyone knows you have to be on birth control for a couple of months before you actually start the Accutane. Since I was 16 birth control has done nothing but make me break out, so since I started back on Alesse my skin has been less stellar than usual. So far I haven't noticed any unusual dryness, my lips have been slightly chapped but nothing too bad. My doctor recommended using a lotion called Cerave, which actually took care of the dry skin I had before I started Accutane and has continued to work for me so far. I have about 4 pretty large horribly painful spots right now that don't seem to be diminishing at all. Im trying my hardest not to pick at anything, but its hard! I've also noticed the texture of the skin on my forehead is starting to get kind of lumpy? The skin on my nose and cheeks hurts and its red and SO itchy. I've read that this isn't anything to be concerned about, but I'll likely bring it up at my next doc appt. I was hoping to have seen a little improvement by now, but as of now I think we're on the "it gets worse before it gets better" bandwagon. Hopefully things start to clear up soon!
