Last post I was having a lot of issues with congestion. I called my dermatologist and she put me on a generic form of differin. She said it makes sense that the salslysic acid wipes were working. Honestly, I think the wipes worked better but I guess this is better for my skin. It made my face better but my back worse. So she eventually told me to stop using it on my back. I have also been takeing Oracea (40mg doxycycline). But I keep getting yeast infections. I've had 4 in 9 months. The dermatologist thinks Oracea is not suppose to give you this, but the only thing that has changed in my life is adding antibiotics. When I took a break form the antibiotics I did not get a yeast infection. More recently I was taking a slow release of doxycycline-Monodox, but I got a yeast infection in 8 days from that. Its depressing because the antibiotics help a LOT with my skin, my skin is almost flawless. But it is ruining my body so I guess I cant take them anymore. I'm pretty depressed about this because it seems that my dermatologist doesnt really know what to do anymore because my skin barely tolerates anything topical.
Cycle days 27, 1,2,3 (aka beginning of my period. connection? i bet) So over the weekend my pores got incredibly congested/clogged whatever. Also the hyper pigmentation was driving me crazy. So decided to add my asorbic acid toner back in, and but the aczone on top. I noticed a difference the next morning..spots were a little lighter. Another night I wiped my face with a salicylic acid wipe (stridex no alcohol) and rinsed it off. Then applied my aczone and moisterizers. Can I say that it helped tremendously with the congestedness of my skin! I know I'm not suppose to be adding stuff to my regime but I really couldn't take it. And I knew it would help a little and it did. Last night I went a little crazy, washed with salicin acid cleanser, put on asorbic acid toner, aczone, then my Cereva moisterizer mixed with jojoba oil, and coconut oil. I know coconut oil is supposively a little comogenic but I needed something to help this hyper pigmentation. Guess what, I wake up and it looks a lot more even toned and lighter. I washed with the salicylic acid wash, then aczone, then moisterizers this morning. Of course I kind of wonder if maybe the oracea is finally kicking in but I kind of doubt it...my face was clogged! Don't think antibiotics do anything for that overnight. Anyway I'm going to stop and go back to the basics and see what happens in a few days. I'm sure my dermatologist won't be happy about this but right now the products she gave me are barely addressing all my issues.
I started the minocycline 50mg, avar cleanser once a day, and aczone twice a day. I didn't see any improvement for 2 weeks. I was still breaking out but my skin looked healthier? Like some of it was clearing? The aczone seems to deflate pimples immediately when you put it on but they seem to inflate by the end of the day lol. Anyway week 3 I got a yeast infection from the minocycline, I never get yeast infections! I know it was the mino because I stopped taking it for a few days and the yeast infection started to go away...it came back full force when I started taking it again and I had to get vagisil. Fun times. The dermatologist told me to just stop taking the minocycline. By week 5 my face looked like it did at week 1. Fml. Makes me feel like the aczone does nothing but its so gentle I want it to work. By week 6 I start getting Pam's and I have my dermatologist appointment. I really hoped she would put me on some form of retin-a but she wants to give my skin a chance to calm down first ( no clue how that's going to happen with me still breaking out) she puts me on Oracea which is doxycycline 40mg formulated for ppl with rosacea. Honestly, I cried after my appointment cause I have little hope this will do anything and she wants me to wait 2 months.
First off, this is a blog to track my personal progress as I'm sick of writing it in different journals and losing it...also I'm hoping to come to some insights from others along the way. I'm trying to figure out the cause of my acne which I feel is next to impossible, but I do think I can maybe figure out what things make it better and worse. For that reason I may also include diet information and what day of my cycle I'm on. Sorry if that is too personal for you but this is kind of an experiment. I went to the dermatologist because my breakouts were out of control. I was using benzoyl peroxide once every other day because that's all my skin can handle, salicylic acid, and a vitamin c toner I make myself. The BP was just making my skin look old and depleted. I had a lot of comedones on my forehead ( but now i think they may be rosacea pustules because they are not full of sebum just clear fluid). I had congested pores in my t zone and cheeks. I also had some whiteheads on my chin and a few on my cheeks. My skin felt very irritated...as if something was under the skin...like I can feel myself break out. It is hard to explain but it almost itches. Now on my chin line I get these weird pimples that are under the skin but they are very tiny. They are not cysts, they are as small the tip of a grain of rice. They do not come to a head, but I can feel them with my fingertips. Unfortunately I have a very hard time not popping them, and now I have a lot of red marks from this. I feel that most of what looks bad is these red marks on my face, my skin use to heal quickly in a few days, but now if I pick I will automatically have hyper pigmentation there for weeks or months. Anyway, the dermatologist said I have acne rosacea. I almost didn't believe her because I do not had a red face I am only red where I have acne pimples. However, I learned rosacea can also cause its own kind of pimples, and it would explain why my skin is extremely sensitive. So she put me on aczone twice a day, minocycline, and avar cleanser. I must mention I also have seborric dermatis on my scalp and avar treats rosacea as well as seborric dermatitis.(just in case that's related). I have switched from minocycline to oracea because I had major stomach issues as well as a yeast infection.
