I'm new to acne.org so I may not be posting this right so sorry about that. Let me just tell you a little bit about myself. I'm a 23 year old female and have had acne since I was 13. It started out pretty simple just some whiteheads and little red pimples on my forehead then 14 bam got really bad pustules and papules all over my forehead and around my nose. First thing I tried was proactiv. Next Retin- A. Didn't work. Next Tetraycyline, didn't work. Next doxycycline and differin. Didn't work. Topical clindamycin. Didn't work. I gave up for awhile and just waited it for it be over. My brother and my dad both had acne but lucky for them it went away. Finally when I turned 18, I realized my parents had been lying to me all my teen years having me believe its just a teenage thing. So, I found a new doctor and he put me on ziana, minocycline, and a topical sulfur lotion. Didn't work (surprise surprise). After that he gave me Tazorac and Bactrim. WOW. Within two weeks I was a 100% clear. I couldn't believe it! From the age of 18-22 yrs I was clear. My face was still oily as heck but I didn't care, I was finally clear. However, all good things must come to an end and well the antibiotic stopped working. The acne came back a little different. It was more on my cheekbones and nose now and a little on my forehead but not really anything serious like before. So I tired everything again azelex, aczone, duac, Ampicillin, Spironolactone( more on that later) and nothing worked. My doctor won't put me on accutane because he only prescribes that for severe cases of cystic acne. Totally understandable since I only have moderate acne yet it is ruining my face and life. It is always there and my face is always an oil slick. So the clear skin diet does it work? Well I have an appt. in March with another doctor and I'm going to beg for accutane if this doesn't work. I'm going to try the clear skin diet for a month and update you guys. If it works, I'll let you know exactly what I did. If it doesn't ( which I don't have high hopes that it would) I'd like to hear about accutane from you guys. Do you recommend it? Did your acne come back? If yes did it come back not as bad as before? If my acne does come back after accutane I'm hoping it will at least be manageable by topical antibiotics. If it comes back full force, I'm concluding that its hormonal and I'll give spironolactone another try. See Spironolactone didn't help with my oily skin and actually made me break out worse. I was only on it for 5 weeks when I gave up on it. I didn't see an improvement in my oily skin even at 75mg and everyone that it has worked for has told me it has helped with their oily skin. I also see much improvement either so I stopped taking it. A week after I broke out pretty badly in places I've never broken out before( I guess this is the IB everyone talks about?). Spironolactone kinda gave me hormonal acne instead where I usually only get one pimple around my period I was getting 4-5 red painful pimples. After stopping spironolactone it took 3-4 months for me to get my to my normal break outs again. Any feedback on spirnolactone would be helpful! Anyways, I'll update in a month. Any feedback is welcome. Sometimes I feel so hopeless like nothing is ever going to help. I'm not typically excited about trying accutane either as it is a very serious drug. But thanks for reading and any feedback is welcome.
