10 Wks ,4 Days On Accutane

I have slacked off on Posting. 4 week checkup I was doing better. Face was awesomely 100% clear with alot of peeling. Dr. increased my dosage from 40 mg to 60 mg(2 pills). I tried to take the 2 pills, 1 in am, 1 in pm, but tended to forget alot, so the majority of the time I was doing 30 mg/day. 1st week of December - about 5 weeks in : My chest was completely clear. I can finally wear low-cut tops. Which I really haven't done since it is cold and I don't own many due to my chest acne problem. 12/27 I went for my 2nd month checkup. My back is so smooth, oil-free and almost bump-free. The only little bumps are right below my neck. I tell the Dr that I think it's due to my shampoo/conditioner because I have very course hair and require rich and creamy hair products. I could not be happier with the results. Today I do have a small bump(scab) on my chin area. I rarely wear foundation on my face anymore. Just put sunblock on. My pores are visibly smaller, and my face is oil-free. It's amazing. I wish it would stay like this forever. Side effects: Thanksgiving weekend: Road trip brought to light joint pain. Extreme stiffness due to hours of driving. I was waddling after sitting for 5 hrs of the 9 hr drive. It went away. - I also noticed my right eye feeling funny. After weeks of struggling with it I finally went to an eye dr who said it was extremely dry. I've never had this problem and I don't wear contacts. I now use artificial tears on both my eyes and that has helped. 1st week of December : Joint pain on my feet (achilles) began. They still ache whenever I get out of bed or sit for prolonged periods of time. Both checkups have shown my cholesterol /triglycerides high. HDL a bit low. I had just binged at a chinese buffet before going to the lab for the December draw.Hmm that was a bad idea. I have never had abnormal cholesterol so I am now trying to eat better to have a normal cholesterol reading next month. I will also try to fast. I am 36 yrs old now and I previously took accutane when I was 22. I didn't have the dry eye problem. I don't remember the joint pain either. Cholesterol was also normal for all my checkups back then. Aging at it's best.

Day 16 - Accutane

This stuff is working so quickly. I am ashy, dry. My skin is nice and smooth one minute and within a few minutes it is cracked and peeling off. It's crazy. I can't keep up with enough moisture. Everything else is ok. I can keep with the lips ok.

Day 10 - Accutane

Really today should be day 11, but I forgot to take it today. Very unfortunate. Got busy with work and forgot. I will wait for tomorrow morning's dose. I now feel like I have hair lice. I am so itcy on and around hairline. I am now very flaky. My hair requires very moisture-rich shampoo or it will strip my hair and overly dry it. Therefore, no head and shoulders for me, at least for now. I will do my best to make it through this without killing my hair. Yesterday when I washed it, I put lots of oil on my scalp afterwards for relief. Only aquaphor quenches my lips of moisture. I'm going to have to get something larger than the sample size the Dr. gave me. Aquaphor is my best friend. The big pimple on forehead is scabbing now. Luckily, these seem to be the only side effects I'm having.

Day 9 - Accutane

The past couple of days, I've been waking up with dry face and dry lips. Upper lip is flaky white. After washing in the morning, I either put aquaphor or vaseline for relief. Today my scalp around hairline is very itchy and starting to flake. Yesterday, I had a big new pimple pop up right on my forehead and another tried on my nose, but I got it out before it could grow much more. ha.. Everything else seems to be drying on my face. Alot is drying on my back and chest but still needs alot of work. The face is definitely being impacted first. Emotionally, all is good. No moodiness or anxiety.

Day 5 - Accutane

Yesterday, I left the house without applying sunblock. I live in Texas and the weather was warm. It was just an errand to go vote at the library which is about 1.5 miles from my house. As I'm driving, I feel the heat on my arms. As I walk the short distance to the library, I felt the sun burning the one arm that was in the sun. The other was fine in my shadow. I felt like I'd been sitting on the beach for an hour. Note to self: always apply sunblock when stepping outside. I played a tennis match last night, which of course i sweat a good amount. My face and arms were tingly where the sweat sat. My skin in general just feels more sensitive to friction, touch. This stuff is working quickly. In my shower this morning, as I scrubbed my face alot of dead skin peeled off. A thick layer. I did have a large pimple on my nose that must've come out overnight. Most other existing ones seem to be drying. I was given a 40mg/day - one time a day. I read somewhere that it should be split into 2 doses a day. I wonder if I should question my Dr. about that.

Day2

Not much change yet. I did take some pics last night for day 1- so uploading. fyi- you might think oh, her face looks pretty clear. I just got two cyst ones on face last week and they went down. There are also remnants of a cyst one on the middle of my neck. The majority on face are little blkheads and white heads and tiny little red ones. And remember, I am 36! This is not right for my age. lol. Today I took the pill with a late breakfast and no gassiness. I think that was the problem yesterday, the fact that I took it on an empty stomach, then ate lunch..sooo. yay! Lips definitely drying and having to apply the carmex or aquaphor regularly. I did get a headache today and took some tylenol for it. Teeth cleaning done today and no extra sensitivity. Every now and then I get a tingling in some random part of my body: ankle or wrist. I am definitely more in tune to tiny little things with my body now, so I'm sure it's nothing. I probably won't post unless something is happening.

Day 1 - First Accutane Pill

I've been very nervous about starting this at the age of 36. I took my first course at around 22 or 23 when I had cystic acne on face, chest and back. Halfway through the course, I began receiving compliments from aquaintances. It was the only thing that worked for me after years of trying everything else. Acne stayed away for quite a few years until I had my son in 2004. A few years after that, they slowly started coming back and mostly on my chest and back. In 2009 at the height of my marriage problems, acne flared up and has not been unrelentless. It is constant on chest and back and very persistent on neck and jaw. I only wear my hair up at home. Tank tops and straps are only doable at home too. I wear a rashguard with bathing suits to cover my back and chest at swimming pools in the summer. Last year I tried minocyline combined with some topical stuff. I ended up being allergic to minocylcine. Then I was put on epiduo and a sulfur wash which kills them, but of course doesn't stop new ones from coming. I've given up on that. I know what works and Dermatologist agrees. One 5-6 month course of accutane. I know my body is probably very different on the inside now vs. 15 yrs ago. I'm scared of serious side effects like swelling of the brain. I recall the typical drying and cracking of lips, inside of elbows, that kind of thing. I'm ok with that. My labs showed everything functioning perfectly. I am nightblind, that worries me a bit too. So here I go on this journey of 40mg daily accutane. I popped the first one this morning around 9:30 am. By 3 pm, I noticed the lips. I really don't think it's the paranoia. It feels really real so I applied the Carmex. Before that, I got really gassy after lunch. So I started googling gassiness. That's weird, I know, and it's huge burps. I feel a bit better now, hopefully this is not a side effect and maybe just due to the tuna sandwich I ate. This would be awful to have for 5 months. I'm starting to wonder if maybe I shouldn't be getting my teeth cleaned tomorrow. I forgot about that appointment.
