So for the past 12 or so days I have really been hiding from everyone as my skin is definitely the worst it has ever been in the 30 years on the planet! It was so bad that I couldn't sleep on my left side of my face as it was so lumpy and sore. Its bad as I have to go to work and try to look pretty (half of a stewardess job) and I'm so paranoid about passengers looking at my face. I have also been so fatigued and have been sick twice. Once with a bad cold and once bout of gastro. Im guessing im really run down from the medication and my immune system is taking a punching. Skin on my arms is also flaking off and my nose is incredibly sore I cant bare to touch it. Im almost halfway which is getting me through this...... God I hope this works for me after all the crap its put my body through! Anyone else have it this bad halfway through? Also anyone have any tips on how to deal with my sore dry nose?? Using a medicine from the chemist but it dries up pretty quickly. Help!!
So day 39 has come along very quickly and the side affects I have read about are now happening to me more and more.... my nose is the worst side affect so far with it being terribly sore, crusty (gross) and bloody all the time. I'm having short nose bleeds ( 1 minute ) during the night every night. Also the backs of my hands are both covered in a red spot rash thats very dry but not itchy. I went to the chemist to refill my script and I was given some nasal spay oil to help with the dryness so fingers crossed it worked. Other than that just the usual amount of pimples on my face - around 5 or 6 and lips still very dry but nothing I cant manage. All in all its nothing that I cant manage but I'm looking forward to the next 14 weeks being over!!!
So after a sizeable breakout on one side of my face only on day 19/20 (with no whiteheads either) that has cleared up after 3 days . Skin has been pretty good for the past few days, no new pimples but I have been having 1 nosebleed pretty much everynight when im asleep. Not good for the white bedding! Thank god I normally wake up when they start. As I'm a long haul flight attendant I do 15 hour flights regularly and I'm finding the dryness of the plane is a really hard thing to manage. I think in the 15 hour flight I probably apply lip balm at least 50 times..... fun times!
Loving the dryness of my scalp however - used to have to wash my hair everyday almost. Now its every 3 days which is a great time saver for me! Having my first derm check-up early next week so looking forward to what he has to say. I also had my first big night out drinking on the medication and I was fine if not a little more sleepy and ready to go home by 1.30am..... I'm actually really enjoying not drinking and going out much - its been great for my body and for my wallet too!
Face skin has really dried out in a good way i never feel at the end of the day that I'm oily which I used to experience - I'm getting strange tiny rashes on the back of my hands and upper arms but nothing i'm too concerned about. I feel very red at times around my nose and cheeks and pores still look large but I guess it means its working!
1 month down now - 4 to go!
So day 17 into the isotretonin..... skin looks the same ( normal amount of pimples) but i'm very dry around the edge of my nose and bottom of my chin. The thing that is annoying me the most is how dry my nose is inside. I wake up in the middle of the night and its quite sore - same with my eyes. Another side affect is that im feeling like its making my hair grow much quicker than normal - I have heard of hair falling out but I swear as soon as I shave my legs or underarms the hair is right back there the next day, normally it would take at least 3 days before it starts to grow back. Has anyone else had that experience? Lips are very dry but not flaking yet, I swear I have been applying my Aquaphor 30+ times a day!
I have found my skin can look a little red at times but nothing a green colour corrector primer from Loreal can't fix!
So far so good but Im really only a tiny way into the journey 17 out of 150 days. Heres hoping for a smooth ride!
Im on day 6 today and haven't had too much to report back, lips starting to get dry and I'm applying Aquaphor quite often..... Skin does feel pretty oily only halfway through the day - i do apply a little more bare minerals and it seems to soak it up! Hair is also much more oily than normal. Skin hasn't really gotten any worse or better this week but it feels like the texture is starting to get thicker for some reason. I also had a few glasses of wine with dinner and had no side effects so thats promising! I had about 8 glasses of water though as i was so paranoid!
Being 30 years old now Im feeling like none of my friends really understand why im doing this as they all have perfect skin but it was time i finally did something about it!
Did a calculation and I have to take 425 20mg tablets over the next 5 months which sounds a bit daunting!
Good luck Candypie let me know where you are at on week one!
So after 17 years of struggling with acne and trying everything ever made I have finally taken the plunge and been prescribed 60mg a day of Oratane. On day 2 so far and after taking 3 20mg per day tablets i haven't really seen much difference..... just a few more pimples and my hair felt a bit more greasy than normal this afternoon. I have decided to really try to stop drinking alcohol after reading what affects it has on your liver..... does anyone have any more feedback on their own Oratane and drinking experience? I'm also a long haul flight attendant so im worried about the affects of the dryness of the cabin along with all the other side affects it brings.
A bit scared of the next few weeks and the breakout I know im going to get!
Will update next week! Hope to hear from anyone in the same position we can compare notes?
