Well, what can I say! My skin is clearing up SO fast now! Woo Hoo!
Up until about three weeks ago things were going so slow and my skin seemed to be getting nowhere. My faith in Tetralysal was fading fast! But, what seemed to be over night, my skin seemed a lot less red, a lot less painful and the lumps stopped coming! I noticed after a few days that my existing lumps started to turn very hard and numb to touch... After this stage, I noticed they were shrinking! Now there is just little red blotches where the old lumps were and my skin seems to have much more moisture to it! Hooray!
I went back to the Dermo last week and when I sat in front of him (no make-up obviously) he just sat and stared! He was flabbergasted! I thought something had gone wrong and there was much confusion in the first ten mins of my consultation! Ha! Anyway, the Doc could not believe my improvement! He said that he usually puts all his Acne patients on the meds that dry your skin out completely, but he said it just shows, with the right people and the right amount of patience, antibiotics can work first time! He was so happy with how my skin was reacting! He has prescribed me another three months of Tetralysal to oversee the rest of the clearing up stages and just to be safe towards the end. He estimates that by the end of March I should be Acne FREE!! EEEEEEK! *jumps up and down*!
Up to now, I am still taking Vitamin B Complex, which I think has definitely had a positive input along side the antibiotics! I would recommend these to any Acne sufferer. I am currently taking around x3 1gram tablets a day (one with every meal) and haven't felt the need to "mega-dose" unlike some of those nutters out there. Ignore the reported side effects of long term usage - these are written by the people who take up to a ridiculous 6/7 grams a day and more! No wonder their hair falls out and suffer more toilet trips! But Vitamin B Complex is perfectly safe when taken in sensible amounts! Definitely had a great effect on my skin and don't think I'd have got this far and this quick without it! It is also a mega help with balancing hormones and in my case, thats what has caused my Acne in the first place! I also feel the Diannette pill has worked as well as too! Continuing on with that for however long I see fit, so hopefully my hormones are pretty calm and level now!
Got another appointment with the Dermo in three months just so he can confirm I am clear and no longer need the meds. He said if my scarring is still bad he can look in to other procedures to fix that. He told me something I didn't know, he is trained and certified in cosmetic skin treatments! Which means he can sort the scarring too if needs be. He said if it is severe then he might look at an acid peel! If not micro-dermobrasion sessions could simply do the trick! But fingers crossed once the redness is completely gone, there are no other marks or scars.
Saying that, I do have quite a few "pick-axe" scars on my cheeks and forehead but they seem to be healing and filling in slowly but surely. Hopefully the next three months prove to be as effective as the last, so much so, I don't need further treatment for scarring!
Overall, I'm SO impressed with what Tetralysal has done, even if it took a couple of months to properly kick in! It's been worth the wait, and as I've all ways said, patience is the key!
I cannot begin to tell you all how BRILLIANT I feel and how much I'm looking forward to being free of it completely! And I hope it never comes back. EVER! My confidence is so much better and I'm starting to venture out again without the nerves and wobble before hand. My friends and family have all ways been very understanding and a great help, but even they have noticed a difference in how I hold myself and the increase in visits! The one thing that did effect me was going out on a night with my girly friends, I stopped all together. I now have the confidence to "fit in" again. Not that I didn't before, but my confidence held me back and played with my head. I am much more open to nights out and eating out. I enjoy it so much more than before when I thought everyone was staring at me and my skin was putting people off their food etc etc. How silly. Now I see how deluded I was and how strong my thought pattern was influenced by my Acne. I am so glad I have come through that and can see the real me and everyone else with it. A huge weight has come off my shoulders recently. But don't get me wrong, I'm still slapping on the make-up to hide the redness and I still would NOT leave the house without it on! With a face of slap, you wouldn't know I had ever been as bad as I was! It's a miracle invention that stuff! If the redness wasn't there I would have the confidence to show my bare face but I'm not quite there yet.... But there is still time and that's what healing needs...
The only place I have any photos of my skin are on this website. I deleted the saved copies on my computer because I knew I'd just sit and look at them and get my self down. But I've just flicked through the old ones and literally CANNOT believe the improvement. My Dermo said he can remember what it was like before and that I must have forgotten because of how dismissive I was about his compliments. But now I know what he means. I can't get my breath at the old pictures! The improvement in just 7 weeks is magic!
I have posted some up to date pictures to show you how much it has improved!
I'll keep posting pictures and writing my blog, but I just want to thank everyone who has wished me well, given me support and advice, commented on my pictures, sent me messages, and even those who have just simply read through me going on! I can't tell you how much the website and members have surprised me! I came on here initially to compare my problem with everyone else's! I then signed up so I could just comment on other's pictures, then one thing lead to another and I uploaded pictures and started rambling on in my blogs! But the support and warm welcomes was overwhelming and it helped me a lot through my tough days! So thank you all ever so much! You'll never know!
Hope you all have the same view as me on my improvements!
Chins up everyone!
I have to start, of course, by saying I hope everyone has had a great Xmas!
Also, sorry I have not added for 2 weeks but I was involved in a car accident (not my fault I must add!) completely lost my car in the crash and came away battered and bruised but I'm much better now! Was lucky to walk away! Phew!
Anyway, just in to my fourth week of the antibiotics (300mg a day) and Vitamin B5 complex (2-3 grams a day). Overall there has been a definite improvement. Still getting the odd lump forming but mostly on my forehead.
My chin is improving the most. This was the area effected the worst at the beginning and wasn't getting any better without meds. Since the antibiotics the lumps have got smaller and seem to have gone hard. They're pretty numb to touch but my Dermo says this is mostly scar tissue causing the numbness and making them harder. He reassured me that this will eventually dissolve but will possibly leave a scar under the skin. I remember the scarring from 8 years ago being under the skin but not visible at all, just felt like little firm areas when pressing my face in the old effected areas. Unfortunately the scarring is inevitable when the lumps and acne are so severe....
My cheeks are getting there, less pain and overall I'm slowly seeing smoother, better skin.
As a whole, my skin seems to be less dry (excluding my forehead at the moment) but the redness and general appearence of the acne has improved a lot since my last lot of pictures just two weeks ago!
Went to see my Dermo on the 20th December who reassured me that the antibiotics are getting to work and things are looking better, which boosted my confidence and helped me see it in a different light. A lot of my friends and family are commenting on the improvement too, so I'm pretty optimistic right now. The Dermo has prescribed me more antibiotics and made an appointment for a review in February 2012 to give the meds more time to work. He has also found my old notes from the initial break out 8 years ago (!) and it has been confirmed I am back on the same meds that cured it back then! He did say the stress of my accident could over rule the meds for a while and my skin could relapse, but fingers crossed I didn't work myself up too much at the time! Feeling much better about my skin and have restored my faith in antibiotics.
Also, I think the vitamin B5 complex has assisted well with my progress and I will be slowly increasing my dosage next week to 3-4 grams a day to see if there is any difference. Obviously I shall let you all know! Would highly recommend the B5 complex to any acne sufferer - I noticed a difference with in a week. Initially improved with the dryness of my skin and smaller spots, but I can confidently say it has helped with everything else the longer I took it for. Some people reviewed this in a way that it effected all sorts negatively, such as dry and thin hair, extra trips to the toilet, and even hair loss! I consulted my Dermo regarding these issues and he safely said that these side effects are purely because of people "mega-dosing" by taking upto or over 10 grams a day! He also said that investigation has proven that hair loss/damage is caused by the abnormally high intake of the binding agent used in the vitamins. He advised that anything between 1 to 6 grams of B complex is pretty safe even though the label advises only 1 gram (apparently this is for people who take vitamins purely to maintain a healthy balance and lifestyle - not to improve skin/hormones etc - it is just an advisory for legal reasons).
Either way, I'm very pleased to say that I'm improving slowly but surely and I'm over joyed at the results so far. It doesn't look half as shocking and obvious anymore. My skin is smoother and I seem to be getting a normal skin tone back. Hopefully many more advantages to come!
Thank you to all those who have read through my blog and viewed my pictures so far. I would like to say an even bigger thank you to those who have messaged me/commented with well wishes, advise and their own stories etc. I'm still researching a lot of your suggestions and recommendations but I shall keep you posted on it all! Such a positive feeling and general reassurance!
As ever, the fingers are still crossed for both me and everyone else suffering with skin problems. I just hope that everyone finds a solution because like with everything we come across, there is all ways an answer - it's just keeping the patience to find it!
Take care everyone and thanks again.
Merry Xmas and a happy new year to all!
Well, first I'd like to apologise for my late start! Only just discovered this website (and how to use it!)...
I have suffered previously with acne when I was 15, this cleared and stayed in control with a boost of antibiotics and the Dianette contraceptive pill. Until I decided to take a break from my pill at the age of 22 (Nov 2010). I then decided to go back on Dianette in April 2011 but my GP prescribed me a different pill called Serezette. This pill and stress from work etc caused my acne to return with avengence... I first noticed the scars from previous acne feel more noticable to touch. After a month on this pill I noticed more and more pimples, slowly forming in to really angry spots that never seemed to heal! I then noticed lumps that were VERY painful but didn't have any redness or discolouration etc. Eventually my face was taken over by spots, lumps, and pimples on my cheeks and chin. I was referred to a Dermo consultant who has prescribed me the Tetralysal and put me back on to Dianette contraceptive pill. Two weeks in and I have noticed NO change what so ever....
I read on the internet that Vitamin B5 can have positive results for acne and has reportedly "cured" some sufferers. There is some reports of people "mega-dosing" by taking copious amounts of B5, taking around 5-15 grams a day!!! I have decided to try a Vitamin B Complex sold by supermarkets and herbal/drug stores. A more sensible option than buying the pure B5 from the internet that is better known as an "acid"!!!! Complex is pretty safe to take and only recommend 1 tablet a day. I spoke to my GP who asked to read the ingredients lable. The tablets had 1gram of B5 in them and he advised me to take one in a morning and one in an evening. Even though I can't take my Tetralysal until two hours after my vitamin due to it having some effect on how the antibiotic is released in to the blood, so I'm having to be pretty strict with my time keeping! I have only been doing this for around 5 days so can't really comment on its effects but I can confidently say that it has definitely helped with the dry/splitting skin on and around my problem areas. I hope it continues to slowly work its reported wonders on me! But as this blog lets me, I shall keep you updated....
Recently my forehead has become a problem too, forming new spots which feel like hard lumps and are AGONY to touch. Washing and wiping my face is so painful and I'm getting fed up with how much it hurts to simply have a wash. Putting my make-up on can take an absolute age due to the pain. The pain and appearance of my skin right now is really getting me down. Starting to dread going out to friends and family get-togethers as it ALWAYS gets mentioned and thats what hurts and reminds me of it all. I'm glad I'm on a possible road to recovery though...
Got another appointment at the Dermo on the 20th December so I shall be definitely blogging after then too, if not before. I shall keep adding pictures to the album too...
Fingers crossed for the 20th!
Chins up guys!
