2 And A Half Months In Accutane

finished approximately 2 and a half months of accutane treatment, dosage was increased to 20mg twice daily on 2nd month. And wow am I impressed with the results so far! Even my derm was like WOWWWW! Feeling heaps better with self confidence and esteem. Having the usual side effects just a lil more intense. Extremely dry lips (derm prescribe special cream for them.) Got a rash on arm, looked a bit like ring worm but was just the skin getting way too dry, and just general aches and pains and tiredness.

Day 26 On Accutane/ Oratane

Day 26, nearly a month in and pretty impressed with the results so far. Skin isn't perfect, still have alot of red pigmentation from old spots and a couple of hormonal actives bit it is nearly clear and feeling really smooth. I've had quite a few compliments on how good it is looking compared to what it was aswell side effects are just the usual dry cracked lips, dry skin, a little bit of muscle ache and fatigue but nothing major. I've also noticed my nose and other areas have been going through this process where i wake up in the morning and its covered in dry skin, but its actually all the gunk that's coming out of the pores. My nose is now 100% blackhead free which I haven't had for years! Also my scalp is way less oily so i only have to wash my hair every couple of days instead of every day. So far so good

Day 14 On Accutane/ Oratane

Day 14, two weeks in woop woop. Everything is much the same. Spending most of the day trying to refresh lips. Couple of new breakouts but hopefully nearing the end of the dreaded initial breakout. I think there is some improvement but its going to take a while for these annoying red hyper pigmentation marks to go away. Pics taken on day 14

Day 12 On Accutane/ Oratane

Day 12 on Accutane, isn't going too bad except for hellishly dry lips that I have to moisturize every 5 mins!! Had a couple of small side effects, much dryer lips and skin. A bit of flaking skin around mouth and chin when I wake up in the morning. Inside of nose really dry. New breakouts appearing daily but seem to be less inflamed than what they usually are. Had 4 cysts when I started treatment (2 on face and 1 in each ear lobe) which have reduced quite dramatically in size.) Also blackheads on nose look like they are coming to the surface. Had a really weird one yesterday where I was itchy all over my body at random times (on scalp, then arms, legs etc.) but may be because I forgot to moisturize body yesterday, Also feeling a bit dehydrated and thirsty. Other than that all is going well except for dry lips are really bugging me! Attached photos were taken today

Day 6 On Accutane/ Oratane

On Day 6 of my Accutane journey. Have started this medication as a last resort as everything I have tried hasn't had much of an effect, and to be honest I was a little weary of taking this medication to begin with because of all the side effects. I have had acne since i was 14 but have been able to manage it with short courses of antibiotics/ birth control. About a year ago i started breaking out really bad even though I was on birth control designed to treat acne (Ginet-84 or Estelle). The acne is mostly on my cheeks/ lower face but has been getting progressively worse and moving down my jaw line. I would say its moderate - severe on my face with a bit of scaring and alot of hyperpigmentation from old breakouts, and mild-moderate on my back. Over the course of a year I have tried doxycycline, minocycline (which made me dizzy and made my hair molt), eryacne, differin, benzol peroxide, several multi vitamins like zinc, nearly every acne product on the counter, herbal liver cleanses, applying strange things to my face like calamine lotion, zinc cream, turmeric and neem (which seemed to help a bit with inflammation), 3 day apple diet (which did zilch). I've also been to a naturopath and several doctors. So here I am, had my blood and pregnancy tests last week and finally on Accutane and hasn't been too bad so far. I'm on 20mg once a day for 6 months. I take the capsule at night to avoid getting tired. I'm not sure if the derm will increase my dosage in the up coming months. I'm 24 years old and weigh between 49-51 kg. So started breaking out a little on day 4 but hasn't been too extreme. Lips are starting to get quite dry and skin on face is a little dryer than usual. I have noticed I'm getting quite sensitive to the sun now and got slightly burnt after a small time in the sun yesterday. So invested in some good sunscreen today! Also face has started to take on a bit of a red tinge I wash my face in the morning and night with Cetaphil face wash, then follow by cetaphil ultrahydrating moisturizer and sunscreen if going out in the sun. Also put a bit of vaseline up nose and am using blistex and lucas paw paw ointment on lips. I have taken to putting heaps of moisturizer on at night to help the dryness and may moisturize whole body from tomorrow onwards. Will attach some progress photos, which I can't say are very flattering as I don't have any makeup on, pretty greasy from moisturizer and I'm pretty rugged! first 3 pics of day 1, last 3 of day 6
