So far the Doxy hasn't done anything yet but I was told it would take 4 to 6 weeks for improvement. I had a Jessners peel today. My second one. It was stronger than the first one I had a month ago. I got a script for Spiro today. 25 mg 2 x day. I also got some cortisone injections in the large cysts on my upper lip. My skin is all dry and flaky around my mouth now. The rest of my face looks like a sunburn.
I was supposed to lift tonight but I will go tomorrow instead. I am going to do a light workout
Sad to say, I am having a very hard time with hormonal cystic acne around my mouth. My acne was mainly cleared for awhile, I would only break out around my period. It would be one pimple that was completely manageable. January 2014 I decided to lose some weight. I lost 13 pounds eating mainly Paleo and weight lifting. February, skin was ok. I went off the diet kinda. March 2014 my face exploded with cysts. Painful ones. I have been back on Doxy 50mg 2x a day and a new regimen of vitamins. I think I need to go back on BCPs and possibly try Spiro. Strict paleo diet was too hard to stay on. I don't have too much dairy or bread. I have been eating brown rice. Maybe I should stop lifting; that could be raising my testosterone levels. Stress sucks. I really think I cannot handle any bit of stress at all without breaking out.
Just started this week:
Doxy 50mg 2 x a day
3000mg of Evening Primrose Oil
4000 vitamin D
1 Stress B Complex
Cod Liver oil
I want to order some fermented cod liver oil soon and try that.
I am sort of new here. Although in my years of trying to cure my acne, I have come across this site many times, I just never tried the regimen before. Let me start with my backstory first.
I am currently 36-½ year old female who lives in a major metropolitan area in the Northeast USA. I have been battling acne since I was 11. I have suffered from acne longer than not. I do mean I have suffered, both emotionally and physically. I will not go into the struggles I have faced (no pun intended) over the last 25 years right now because I am still not over the emotional pain my acne has caused me. Eventually I would like to write about it because I have read that writing can be emotionally healing. This blog is mostly going to be about my journey to better skin not a “whine fest†about how I was tormented as teen for my bad skin. I do not say, “perfect “skin because I know I will never have that. I just want it to good enough that I can feel confident again.
In the last 25 years, I have been on every drug imaginable in order to clear my skin and I have tried everything, such as antibiotics, OTC topical medicines, prescription topical medicines, Proactiv, Retin – A, Accutane and home remedies. Some have worked for a while and then stopped. Some never worked. Some made my skin dry and some broke me out even worse. I really need a plan I can stick with that causes the least amount of side effects.
As a teen, my acne was very severe cystic acne. Now it’s more moderate with an occasional giant cyst usually around the time of my period. I have to admit, the Accutane I took when I was 18 helped somewhat but I refuse to go back on it as a 36 year old. The side effects were awful and I care not to live through that again. That is why I am going to try the regimen put forth on this site in conjunction with a healthy diet and some exercise (losing some weight wouldn’t hurt me either.)
I really don’t care if anyone ever reads this. I am doing this for me only. I am starting this blog for a couple of reasons:
1. To document my progress on Dan’s Acne.org skin care regimen and keep me accountable to the regimen
2. To document my diet / exercise progress and keep me accountable to my exercise schedule
I am going to try to have shorter posts in the future just because I do not like writing too long of posts. Most of my posts will just be a list of what I accomplished during the day/ week.
I have not received my product kit yet, so I have not started yet. In the meantime I am not going to use any products on my face so I can start fresh once I receive the package. I have decided to change my diet as well. This week I will start eliminating sugar from my diet. My plan for this week is as follows:
1. Exercise 3 times this week for a hour of cardio followed by some weight resistance machines
2. Elimination diet: Remove sugar from diet
3. Add fruit and vegetables to my diet
