Wow, cant believe i have made it 16 weeks in and about to head into month 5. Im only just starting to see some great results, so Im guessing I took longer than most other people to get the results i wanted. I must admit I have just healed from 2 nasty cysts but my skin is looking good.
My lips are crazy dry and so is my face if I dont moisturize 3 times a day. As it is winter here, and freezing cold, I would say that having the heater on constantly has taken a serious toll on my skin too. but it feels so smooth and lovely!! and to think it can still get better blows my mind
Only 3 more months to go!!
I have hit the 12 week mark and I have to say there is a big difference in my skin. Not saying I am even close to clear, but my skin is looking different than when I started on Tane.
Firstly, it feels smooth. Unfortunatly it doesnt look great (yet) but when I wash my face, I really cant feel any lumps or bumps.
Secondly, I feel like the red/purple marks/scars are hanging around alot longer than usual. They dont seem to be fading at all. This part really sucks.
Some days my skin looks really red (almost like sunburn, even though I havent been out in the sun)
Plus, I actually enjoy wearing a little make up now. I never could before because the oil would slick it right off, and the makeup would flake off where I had the pimples. Gross, I know.
Now that my skin is dryer, can anyone recommend a good light wearing foundation please? I had been using Nude by Nature mineral powder but its not great when I have dry skin.
So Im nearly at the end of month 3 and I feel like I am back where I started. The right side of my face is disgusting again and I have pimples all over my chin.
My lips keep splitting every time I smile/eat/move and it is soooo shit
Still plodding along with nothing new to report....scarring is still pretty bad and finding a new pimple every day or two. Nothing exciting.
Lips are cracked at the corners still and Im sick of wearing chap stick!! The dryness is fine as long as I use a night cream before bed and Olay tinted moisturiser during the day. The condition of my hair isn't great, it feels really dry and dull but no flaking (which I cant complain about at all)
Derm visit today, I was really excited to see if she noticed any difference....
But she DID say that things will start to get good from here on in. Im happy with that!
I feel that the dryness is really starting to settle down and I really only have one or two new pimples per week, compared to two every day. Thats a massive improvement to me. My lips are cracked and sore at the corners but after hearing horror stories about blistering etc, I think I have only experienced mild side effects.
I did make the mistake of sticking my hands in a bucket of napisan soaker and I am absolutely positive I will never make that mistake again I honestly looked like I had some bizzare tropical skin affliction and it appeared that the skin on my hands was going to fall off. I have been using zinc cream (the nappy rash variety) and it has settled down a lot.
Sigh, I just want to be finished this course, so bring on month 3!!!!!!!
Im starting to see a real difference in my skin already, no new pimples and parts of my face are looking really clear. The scars and red marks are still an issue but one baby step at a time.
I am still having trouble with sports and I am bruising really easily if I take a knock during netball. Is this normal? The stiffness and soreness only really lasts a day or two so I have decided to keep playing.
I really should get in on tuesday to get my bloodwork done as my derm appointment is on friday. I hope everything is going ok, I would HATE to have to stop taking Tane now that everything is starting to settle down.
Im very excited/interested to see what month 3 holds in store for me.......
I have had a few really nice comments in the past week! People can see the difference and I can feel it too Still lots of scars but the overall appearance of my skin is improving. I cant wait to do some more photos to compare them to my first few weeks!
As for the side effects so far, the dryness is ok if I use a night cream, morning and night, and use carmex chap stick. I have noticed that I get really sore after sport now, I play indoor netball and then go straight into a game of volleyball afterwards. I end up cramping up after I cool down which isnt nice, but its worth it!
Blood tests this week and back to the derm on the 17th. I dont think she will up my dose, as Im almost at the max reccomended dose for my weight. Im looking forward to month 3 and 4, Im told thats when things get really good!
Being on accutane is seriously like being on a rollercoaster.
Highs, lows, wanting to stay on, screaming to get off, good bits, really crap bits.
Only one active right now but heaps of scaring. My face feels really smooth though and Im happy about that! I have switched to the Garnier antibacterial wash for sensitive dry skin cleanser and although its drying my skin out a little, using a good moisturiser helps.
I hope there are not too many bad bits left on this rollercoaster ride!
Yeah, I spoke too soon. Its crazy how much difference there can be in just 2 days on accutane.
The left side of my face looks really good but my right side looks like a warzone. As I am quite fair, the scars are looking more obvious. I have broken out badly on the right side along my nose and all over my cheek. I look disgusting and feel like crap. The blackheads on my cheek look like craters and stand out like dogs balls.
Makes me want to hide away and cry.
Ok, day 34 and I have NO active pimples. How cool is that? My skin is really spotty still from all the scars but overall I am really happy right now.
Apart from dry lips, the side effects seem to be settling down. I have to apply cortisone cream to my arms twice a day if I want the fire rash to stay away, but that is easy enough.
Overall I would have to rate my skin a 4/10 at the moment, as I can still see big pores and I have no doubt that a few actives will pop up sooner or later. I cant wait to have beautiful skin, but the journey feels like it will last forever.
One month down, six more to go
So I'm now 30 days in and after a horrible two weeks, things are looking better!! Cysts have faded away already and only a few shitty spots hanging around.
dry skin and dry lips but it only gets really bad if Im out in the cold and wind. Moisturiser and chap stick keeps things under control!
My skin is breaking out big time, I have a cyst on the bridge of my nose and its swolen and sore and I cant wear my sunglasses because they dont sit over the swelling. Shit. I also have 3 more on my chin/jawline and they hurt. My skin is like tissue paper and the rash is hanging around.
I really hope this will be worth the pain and misery in the long run
Well I have to say that I am winning the fight against dryness. Have I mentioned how much I love QV nigh cream? Yes, I believe I have Its great!
I swear, the Tane side effects change daily for me. Overnight, I have developed a brutal rash along both my forearms. I have called it "fire-rash" It feels like it sounds, and my god, it stings Probably should see a doctor
Other than that, no complaints at all.
I really shouldn't have popped that tiny pimple. But I did and now its a huge red mark. Holy Crap!
Im absolutely sure the IB is here and I have photos to prove it! My eldest sibling (never had a skin problem in her life) demanded a last minute family photo for Mum for mothers day. Dont ya just love people in general?
I tried kicking,
I tried screaming
and then I tried all the excused under the sun. I recieved in return a bunch of nasty messages and felt so guilty. I went to the stupid photo shoot and VOILA! My Mum now has a lovely record, for all to see, of my 3 week mark on 'Tane. Gross.
On the plus side, I no longer have to wash my hair every day! I can easily go 3 days between and Im loving that part! Dry skin isnt too bad as long as I keep up with QV night cream (I use it morning and night) and keep the make-up away.
My lips have cracked in the corners......maybe I can hold a costume party and dress like the Joker from Batman? My lip junk count is now at 18 chapsticks. Nothing is working though
Blah. That about sums it up today.
I spent the day at our school aths carnival and it was cold and windy. Nothing good has come of it. My lips have windburn which really adds to the overall effect of chapping, giving me a really pleasant red glow. Pfft.
I have broken out in a nasty rash on both forearms, luckily it is cold here and i can keep them covered.
Ill sum it up for you.....
Face - CRAP
Arms - CRAP
Neck - CRAP
Lips - REALLY CRAP
Scalp - As above
Sinuses - Painful
Any words of encouragement will be gladly received.
Yeah, Yeah, I know I'm being a sook!
Cruising along pretty well right now, headaches, backache and itchy skin gone! I have been using QV night cream and its wonderful!! I dont flake or peel at all now and its not greasy at all once it has soaked in. Love it!!
Lost my tube of burts bees though, and last night I felt like my lips were going to fall off my face. Not pretty.
Pretty sure my IB is upon me, im coming up in little lumps all over my face and blackheads are looking more obvious but Its nothing I cant handle! My husband even commented that my skin "looked awesome". Granted it was in good lighting and he may have had a few beverages beforehand, but Ill take what I can get
My only issue is that I am constantly cold, and its driving me crazy. I usually handle the cold really well but I just cant seem to warm up ...... Its that bone deep cold and it sucks. Has anyone else experienced this as a side effect on Tane? Ive never had a problem with the cold but since starting, its come up. Should I check in with the derm?
And seriously, try the QV face night cream. Its amazing.
Day 12 is now upon me and it seems to be going along ok.
The corners of my mouth are cracking and Im pretty dry but its really not that bad.....although I think the IB will be here soon. I have lots more spots than usual on my back. A few bumps along my jawline and blackheads are looking more obvious than usual but the cyst that has been hanging around for quite a while appears to be shrinking and drying up
After going to the clinique counter to look for the lip stuff that everyone is talking about I nearly had a heart attack when i found out that it cost $40 for a teeny tube. Pfft, It would last about 5 days, and Im not exactly made of money. Burts Bees lip gloss was what I settled on, and I must say, Its pretty good!!!
The down side is my head is dry and itchy, but I still have to wash it every day or else it looks dirty. Can I colour my hair on accutane? It always feels loads better after a colour and I am well overdue for it.
My goal for this coming week is to drink more water and see if that helps.
day 9 over and done with!!
I feel like my skin is looking more even everyday and apart from one nasty cheek cyst, its looking pretty ok. I have had NO new pimples come up in 4 days and thats the first time in about 10 years that its happened!!
My lips are driving me crazy though, not dry but feeling really claggy and sticky, and i hate the feeling!! I have 20 different lip thingys but they all make it worse!!
The usual peeling and itchy skin, has anyone tried the old oats in the stocking trick? Im told putting a handful of oats in a stocking and then running warm water thru it works......
Well Im just glad to be 9 days closer to the end
Into day 8 and feeling pretty crappy but I will survive!
I am peeling around my mouth and my chin is as itchy as hell My face was burning everytime i washed with the cetephil so I have switched now to QV Face. It doesnt burn so I may be on the right track.
The infected tragus piercing is not looking good but the Dr. put me on antibiotics and Im told this will also help with the IB so Im pretty happy about that! Im happy to dodge that bullet (hopefully).
How do I stop my face from itching like crazy? If I touch my face even the tiniest amount, skin starts to peel and Ill give you the hot tip, its not a good look. I think i might not wear make up to work tomorrow just so I will be able to moisturise during my lunch break!!
One week closer to clear skin!!
My question for the day is - has anyone else had issues with new piercings while taking accutane? I have my tragus and rook pierced and both seem to have developed an infection. Im using rock salt x3 per day but it isnt helping. I hear this is normal but would love some feedback.
The cetephil lotion and moisturiser is burning my skin every time i use it an my face is as itchy as hell.... what can I try as an alternative??
Really starting to dry out now but on the positive side, the cyst is shrinking and that 'thing' under my nose is almost gone. Yay!
Accutane is starting to really suck.
Woke up this morning to find that nasty spot under my nose has decided to take it upon itself to get even bigger. Not gonna bother with the make up today, nothing will cover that!!
I decided to treat myself by going to get a coffee from the drive thru coffee shop and instantly felt better....The girl who served me had beautiful skin, apart from 2 MASSIVE pimples on her cheek. ( yeah, even bigger than mine!!)
Not that seeing other people inflicted makes me happy, but I knew that I wasn't the only one struggling with bad skin. Its good to know that Im not the only one surrounded by beautiful skinned people........Yeah, Ill take what I can get
So now a side effects update...
No real change as yet, not too dry as long as I keep the make up away. A little dry around my chin and mouth, but still getting oily after a while. Its getting pretty itchy at night though after i use the cetephil...Ill just sit on my hands so I dont scratch.
I can only use the cetaphil cream at night as it make me look really greasy....kinda like a glazed donut. I lashed out and bought a bottle of Olay SPF 15 for the daytime.
Cyst (smallish) on my right cheek that has been there for ages, still camping out. I dont think its planning to go anywhere in a hurry. Shame.
Starting to chap a little but not too bad.
No more pesky headaches, but my back is aching a bit, which is nothing new thanks to a workplace injury 18 months ago. I dont think its any worse really.
Itchy head will be fixed soon with some anti dandruff shampoo
So far, not too bad.
Ok, Day 5 and things are starting to happen....... All was good this morning, light moisturiser and Nude by nature to cover the massive pimple just under my nose ( we all know that this took about 5 seconds to show through, dont we? ).
Washed my face at about 5 to take the make up off - I looked like Bear Grylls after a week in the Sahara. Yuk! Its truly strange as I dont have dry lips at all. Weird.
At least I know the Tane is working - right?
Now I need I new foundation. Suggestions anyone?
