Its been 6 months after my treatment ended and almost 8 months since I've had a spot! My skin is amazing, always glowing and this is despite sometimes not washing off my make up (very bad but I've only done that a few times!). Accutane is the best thing I've ever taken and I hope my skin stays like this for as long as possible. Product wise I have been using Simple face wash which takes off my make up as well. I love simple products and use an olay moisturiser. At night I apply vitamin e oil. I'm please to say that I can leave the house with out make up but I still prefer to use a bit of concealer for my red scars.
Lastly, if anyone is thinking about giving up on accutane, I would encourage you not to. My skin is amazing!!!! And all the heartache during the miracle treatment was definitely worth it.
Life is soooooo much better after Accutane. I cannot explain to you how much energy I have and how great it is not to have horrible, cracked dry lips! 8 days after I stopped accutane my lips became 75% better. Despite the derm telling me that it would take 6 weeks for accutane to leave my system and the side effects to cease, I feel like it only took me about 2-3 weeks.
My skin is pretty perfect! I've had no spots for 3 months and even though it wasnt very oily before, I'm suffering from no grease. My skin isn't dry either. Its just very sensitive and it still goes red after I wash my face. I've also noticed that I get a very strong blush after I drink alcohol! Like an Asian Glow but I'm not East Asian.
My hair gets greasy every 4 days now which is brilliant, because before I would have to wash it every 2nd day.
My bones also do not ache anymore. Yesterday I went to the gym for the first time in a year and I was fine! No aches and pains.
I still have red marks on my face but I understand that Accutane has done its job and these marks will take about 6 months to fade away. I'm not using anything for them, I'm just going to let nature take its course.
Make up wise I'm using a Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser and concealer. Ill only use foundation if I'm going out in the evening or to a formal event.
Overall Roaccutane has helped my skin a lot. Before I'd always have at least one spot on my face and my cheeks would have red marks which would eventually turn into spots. But now my back is 100% clear and so is my face! Its a hard and long journey but I'm glad to say that when I wake up in the morning everyday and look at my face I always see an improvement.
So apart from my arms being really dry and flaky, I seemed to have developed a blocked pore on the lef hand side of my face. It should turn into a small white head like spot but its just sitting there all red and its been a week. Perhaps it got blocked because I've been using concealer a few times a week. Anyway I really hope it goes and I'm off roaccutane in 10 days like planned!
I have 3 weeks to go on roaccutane and I cannot wait to be off it!! I can't wait for the moisture to return to my lips, eyes and nose, I also miss the grease in my hair because its very dry with out it. I'm seriously done with being dry and as soon as I'm off roaccutane the red marks on my face will begin to heal.
Does any one have any questions about roaccutane? If so I'll be happy to answer them. I wish I had the guts to show you the pictures I took whilst on the medication but I am too shy.
My skin has been 100% clear since around June 20th! My cheeks are however, still red and rosy. I love the results and just use a bit of foundation to cover the red marks. I saw my derm yesterday and he as immediately pleased with my skin, and said I will be off Accutane next month!!! So I have exactly 4 weeks to go!
I'm pleased to say that my skin looked amazing on my University graduation and that I will be off accutane before I start grad school in late september!
Hi all! My skin is looking 100% clear. On saturday evening I notice a red patch on my cheek and this developed into a spot but the white headed bit went away 2 days later and now I just have a red mark. With foundation (which covers up my red marks) my skin looks perfect!
Accutane is finally kicking in and I'm so happy! My lips are still dry and my skin is very sensitive- I don't like wearing jeans because they make my legs itchy. Also my eyes are very dry and red.
Apart from that I'm so happy- YAY!!!!
I've noticed a lot of people talking about the products they recommend for fellow users of accutane but after seeing a new derm yesterday I was told to keep my regime as simple as possible. This means using a mild oil free cleanser and if needed a light oil free moisturiser. Do not scrub or use a mixture of different products like face masks ect. This is because your skin is highly sensitive and scar-prone when on accutane.
My skin has been a lot better since my last post. I have red marks from old spots and one clogged up pore which is red. I haven't had a cyst for a week. My new derm lowered my dosage to 40mg because of my bone soreness. So hopefully my lips will be less dry. My eyes however, are very dry and itchy.
I have no idea when I'll be off accutane, but im just enjoying the seeing the improvement to my skin and I hope that the soft, smooth texture will remain after I get off the drug. My skin is a lot more glowy and had a rosy tint to it.
I envy you users of accutane that don't have to go through the horrendous initial breakout that has been plaguing me for the last 2 months. IB has made sure that I have at least one large cyst on my acne ridden face as if the dozens of scars, small white headed pimples and redness weren't enough to make me spend at least 20mins prepping my face prior to venturing outside my house. Accutane is definitely running through my blood but instead of soothing and healing my skin its causing havoc and endless eruptions on my face.
Ah when will this end? If my derm didn't look like Dr Kovac I'd be cursing him every time I look in the mirror. Instead of crying every time I see my blotched face I remember him saying "you will see results in the third month". Will I see results in my third month?...
Well nothing really new to report, I still have acne and my cheeks still have a unnatural rosy tint to them. my forehead doesn't seem to be calming down either although my chin in clear. My derm says I should start seeing results now so fingers crossed!
Also I haven't seen my derm for 2 months....quite worrying but my appointment is next week. I think I'm fine physically but I really want to see the derm for encouragement, my IB has gone on for almost 1 and half months now and I want him to tell me if its working!
Although I've been complimented about how my skin is glowing (And the redness has faded slightly, so it looks like I rosy cheeks) my IB is still very much around. My forehead and cheeks are mainly covered in all sorts of spots but my chin is doing fine (but for how long?) I guess I was hoping that my IB would go away by now, its been almost 1 and a half months.
For UK readers- order Aquaphor from Amazon, its amazing!!! better than jojoba oil. my lips look hydrated and "normal".
My skin is finally clearing up! I haven't been using anything on it so I guess accutane is finally healing me. The spots have dried up and the cysts have red scabs on them- I'd peel them off but seeing that I'm not leaving the house for a few days I'll let them run their course naturally to avoid scarring.
My only other side effect apart from the cracked, painful lips and dry arms and legs is tiredness and the inability to concentrate on my work. Really hope it goes away but luckily my mood is uneffected!
My skin is awful! - its very red and there are pimples and a few cysts on my chin. Its been like this for almost a month now. My face is pretty sore and doesn't feel fresh like it did during my first 10 days coming on accutane.
But despite this I'm remaining patient and loving my blackhead free nose!
gahhh a mixture of pimples and cysts have erupted on my red face (redness isn't to bad because I'm olive so it looks like a permanent blush). They look terrible and my acne was never this bad before. Weird thing is- they're all concentrated on my chin and right cheek.
No other major side effects apart from my shedding lips.
TIP: put water on your lips then apply your lip balm (I'm using burts bees wax)
My skin has recently had a nice glow to it- especially on my nose where the blackheads have declined significantly. However, my face is still quite red and spots are blooming every day which luckily I am able to cover up quite well with MAC moisture concealer.
Apart from that I steamed my face and put on the bodyshop's tea tree oil mask which again helped to freshen up my face. I also threaded my eyebrows and felt very little pain which was VERY odd seeing that my skin is supposed to be super sensitive.
The only side effects that I am currently having are dry lips/ eyes and feeling very tired in the morning. Also I love how my hair is not getting greasy!
I've had HUGE breakouts in the past few days. Cysts have appear on my right cheek, forehead and chin. They're huge! The ones on my forehead are quickly drying up and going tho. I don't think my oil production has completely stopped because cheeks and hair still have a trace of grease.
A few days ago my body was very sore and ached. I felt like a 95 year old woman! But I sat in a jacuzzi for about half a hour and was fine the next day- phew!
Overall improvement? Not much, quite the opposite actually. The pores on my nose have become more prominent. I'm not expecting an improvement until month 2...
Ahhh my skin is getting pretty dry especially around my cheeks. My lips are horrendous. I finally picked up my prescription for Dermol wash and doublebase gel.
Both are making the dryness a lot easier but it hasn't completely gone away!
I also brought JOJOBA OIL (has moisturising properties) which I'm using on my lips and will make a hair mask out of this evening because my scalp is getting dry (I'm worried it looks like I have dandruff).
So far my skin looks ok. I have a spot on my chin and forehead and the cheeks are still red but have no spots have risen. I understand its to early in my treatment to expect results so I'm staying patient!
I wouldn't usually post another entry so soon but I've already started noticing some changes to my skin and psychological behaviour.
My nose started getting dry and flaky yesterday, as are my lips.
Also my mood has significantly deteriorated. I've been feeling angry and stressed out and it doesn't help that I'm in the last few months of my degree....
Roaccunate (or Isotretinoin as my box states) could not be portrayed in an even more scarier light then it already is. Hence, why I'm writing up yet another 'tane blog. I live in London so bare in mind that the procedures I describe may be different from those in other countries!
Ok so I first started getting acne at 11 (I'm 21 now) and it was mainly an on/off problem which before was easy solved by tropical meds/contraceptive pills. Its not a HUGE problem- I have redness on my cheeks and right now my forehead and chin are clear.
But last september ('10) I decided to enough was enough because the spots on my cheeks would just not react to anything I tried (I was on dianette for 5 months previously).
It took 6 months for my GP to refer me to an nhs dermotologist and for me to get an appointment (my gp's surgery is very slow! usually the wait is 2months).
Anyway, when I finally saw the dermo, he asked for me to take a blood test, sign a declaration that I will take a contraceptive pill (its part of the law for all women to be on contraceptives when taking this), get a contraceptive pill (dinaette he said was best) prescribed by my GP and to take a blood test.
A week later I returned to the hospital and was told my blood test showed I was healthy and I was prescribed 60mg dose of 'tane to take once a day. I'll be going to see my Dermo every 4 for weeks.
3 days in and I've noticed no side effects. I've been using body shop products- tea tree oil foam cleanser and night cream which I've been mixing with vitamin E oil for extra moisture. During the day I'll be using the body shop's vitamin e moisturising cream. My doctor prescribed me a special body/face wash and cream which I'm going to pick up from the pharmacy tmo- more on that when I start using it.
My cousin was on 'tane last year so she's been advising me a lot on what to expect (mainly dry skin within a week). I'm hoping to have clear skin by my 22nd birthday which is on june 21st so fingers crossed!
