so i have not quit my treatment. I am so close to being done. I have less than a month left to go. It seems like all the side effects have hit me this month...of course it would since i'm almost done. My lower back has been sore, and so have my shoulders. They feel stiff and dry. My nose has gotten so dry that the insides are peeling and bleeds if i blow my nose. I have super bad allergies so this does not help at all. my eyes are even worse than the last time i wrote. I use 2 different drops daily. I have one for mornings, and one for nights....If i do not put drops in before i go to bed and periodically throughout the night, my eyes hurt to open them. they are so blurry when i wake up and it takes a while for the moisture to get back to my eyes. My face is clear, except for dry patches. Moisturizing does not seem to help me at all. I have several patches peeling on my face and i feel like a snake. they hurt too. I have also developed chelitis (sp?) on my lips. i have no idea how this happened because i uses chapstick and aquaphor like it's going out of style. i ALWAYS have somehting on my lips....but now i have cracks in the corners......one good thig about accutane, well 2 i guess...my face is clear, and with all the water and water rich foods i have been takingin, i have lost about 20 pounds during my treatment. i go back to the dermatologist at the end of this month....i can't wait to be done! this has been the best and definitely worst 5 months of my life.
So i have been considering quitting my accutane treatment. My eyes have been taking a huge impact from this medication. They are so dry and blurred, that i feel it might be best to stop. My opthalmologist gave me a prescription for restasis and an over the counter eye drop. He said my eyesareso dry that my corneas are even dry. It scares me because i'm afraid my vision effects will be irriversable. I only have 60 days left on accutane, and my face has cleared up a lot, buti do want to continue treatment so my acne doesn't come back.
So i've been really busy the past month with work and school, but now i have time to update. I'm 3 1/2 months into my treatment, all seems pretty well. My face got become a little drier, but still not too bad. My ears have been dry, which is weird, but managable. My eyes are really dry, so i now have to wear my glasses instead of my contacts. My lips are extremely dry. I apply aquaphor all day, and i even layer lip balms, but they are still dry and starting to crack....oh well...i can deal....oh has anyone felt emotional while taking this medication? Just wondering....I'm excited though because i haven't had a breakout or any cysts form in about a month. My face looks so much better, and my scars are already clearing up. Accutane is an annoying treatment, and has it's ups and downs, however,i feel that it will be worth it in the end, and i only have a month and a half left!
So i go get my end of month 2 labs done this saturday, and then have a dermatologist appointment on may 5th. My skin is still dry, but it's not too bad. My face is pretty clear already, except for this ginormous pimple in the middle of my forehead, but it's a normal pimple, and not a cyst, so that's good. I haven't wore makeup for awhile now, and i like that. i used to wear it only to try to cover my scars and cysts, but there's not much to cover up anymore, plus being so dry is not good for makeup. it looks flakey. I haven't broke out like i've heard from a lot of people, and my acne was severe too, but i guess it was because i was on septra for 2 months priar.
So i have a habit of picking at my acne and the scabs. Well, with my skin being so dry, i have started to pick at it. My whole chin has probably shed about 4 layers of skin in the past week. I keep picking atit and pulling it off....such a bad habit i know. It makes my chin hurt too, but i still pick. Oh, and i was outside yesterday, and got a pretty bad sunburn. I even had sunscreen on, but it wasn't very high spf, i need to get some, but i have a feeling it will peel, therefore making my habit even worse....luckily, my face didn't get too burnt. Mostly it's my arms and legs. oh well, i'll see how this goes through the week...
Yesterday was end of month 1 for me. Now only 4 more to go. I had my dermatologist appointment yesterday, and he said i was showing progress, and he gave me another perscription for 80 mg. I thought i wasn't going to get a bad breakout since i didn't in the first few weeks, but i have 6 small cysts on my face. They aren't anywhere near as bad as they used to be, but they are still there. Only one hurts right now, and the others have statred to go away. Other than that, my face is still super dry no matter how much moisturizer i use. My lips are dry as well, but i'm doing my best to keep aquaphor on them at all times.
My face is so incredibly dry! I put so much moisterizer on it and nothing helps. My nose is really dry and flakey, and having allergies really isn't helping that at all. My lips have been so sore and chapped for the past few days, and i dislike this very much. I've also been feeling really run down a lot, but i'm not sure if it's from the medication, or just from my schedule.
Today is the 13th day i have been on Amnesteem. My face already looks so much better.I'mreally surprised. Ithasbroken out around my chin and bottom lip, but they are normal pimples, and not cysts. I deal deal with actual pimples. I did get a small cyst on my right cheek under my eye, but it went away fairly fast, and did not grow to where it was noticable. My pores look really small in the areas where they were huge. My face is super dry and peeling, and so are my lips, but it's not too bad to have to deal with. My skin has been itchy a little bit, but still nothing i can't handle.
So i have been getting more breakouts on my face, and the dreaded cysts have started to return. I have one medium sized one, and one thati can feel just under my skin. I have also been breaking out on parts of my body that i have never broke out on before....i hate it....i have a cyst on my arm, which i've never had before, but my derm ssaid it was normal for that to happen to some people. oh well.
So today was the end of week 1 for my accutane journy. I have noticed quite a few side effects that i didn't know i would get, or that i didn't think would come so soon, but i guess i am on a pretty high dosage. My skin is getting very dry and itchy, even though i moisturize it 3 times a day. I even carry lotion with me. I have been using vaseline intensive moisture body lotion. I usually will put one of my Victoria Secret Pink lotions on top, and that seems to help with the itching, but i think soon i will have to stop using the scented stuff all together. My face is less red than it was a few days ago, but my face and lips still seem like they have a burn, but i have not been in the sun, nor has the sun even been out where i live. It has been getting better with the help of Aquaphor. I LOVE that stuff! I have 3 of the lip care tubes, 2 ointment tubes, and a big jar of it on my night stand. My nose has been very dry as well. I had a slight nosebleed yesterday, and my nose has a "tight" feel to it. I have been putting aquaphor on a qtip and rubbing it around my nose, and up into my nostril, and it feels a lot better. I highly reccomend Auquaphor. My eyes have been getting drier....I;m afraid that i will no longer be able to wear my contacts starting soon, but i just got some cute new glasses so i think i'll live. I;ve been working out, and i seem to not be able to go at my normal pace, and i have to slow down. Other than all these side effects, my face only has one active spot, and it's a normal pimple! So to me, this does not even matter. It is not a cyst, and i like this very much. Even though i am hopefully that accutane will work for me, this seriously has been the worst week of my life. I feel terrible all the time because my skin is so dry and itchy. My scalp is even itchy. I've been moisturing that too, and i haven't been washing my hair as often to try to let some oils come out. I'm hoping things get better, and that i like being on Amnesteem better as my journy continues. I mean this is only week 1, so hopefully things get better with time. Oh and a plus, it is supposed to get warm here within the next few days, so i think this will help my skin. It's been really cold and windy, and it has not been nice to my face.
It's almost the end of week 1, and i have noticed my face getting drier, and it kinda looks like it's peeling? It also sometimes feels hot or warm, and sometimes is so red that it looks like i have a sunburn. Has this happened to anyone else?
Hey Everyone! I just started Amnesteem which is a generic name for Accutane. I statred it on 3/8/2011. I am currently on 80mg a day. I figured i would just keep a blog, because i know when i found out i was going to start this medication, reading other people's experiences helped me understand what was going to happen. I have cystic acne. It is a painful nodule acne that is under the skin. The cysts get really big and very painful, but you really cannot do anything to relieve the pain. They typically do not come to any head at all, and so you just have to let them run their course. My acne used to be very severe, but i have been on Bactrim for the past 2 months, and it really helped. My acne leaves very large pitted scars, and they are not easy to cover up. I had tried so many options before i started Accutane. I went through pretty much every drugstore option, Proactive, Mario Bedescu (which worked best by the way. i used the buffering lotion and drying mask, i highly recommend them, but they are a little pricey.) and i also took every oral medication that my dermatologist could prescribe me. Nothing helped too much, and the pain was still very bad. My face hurt all the time. I never really had acne that bad when i was younger. My cystic acne didn't even begin to form until my Sophomore year of high school, which was about 5 years ago. It started out with three HUGE cysts. One on either cheeck, and one right under my right eye, which were all very uncomfortable. It hurt my eye, and it was painful to open my mouth too far. It kept getting worse throughout high school, and i went to the dermatologist. He gave me doxycycline, and several medications in the family. They didn't help. So i toughed it out until senior year, and it would get better, then i would get stressed, and boom, my face was terrible. My freshman year of college is when i got serious about my face. My dermatologist still did not want me on accutane, so i had more medications. Finally, this January, i had enough, and i made an appointment, and i told him i wanted something else. He agreed it was time for accutane, which is not an easy drug to start. That appointment, i signed and read papers for about an hour. The i had to make an appoinment with my family doctor to get a pregnancy test and blood work. You have to have 2 negativepregnancy tests to start accutane if you are a girl. I had my tests a month a part like you are supposed to do, and then i had to fill out my ipledge, which is a online programs girls have to do to know the seriousness this medication can have a on a pregnancy and a baby. I then got my medication this past tuesday, and i started it. Today is my 4th dose. i've only noticed small side effects. My nose it a little dry on the sides, but i've been putting on moistureizer and aquaphor on it so it's ok. My lips haven't really been dry, but i have kept aquaphor on that too, i guess i've been a little paranoid. I've been kepping my skin moisturized, and it's ok too. My face seems a little red and kinda warm, but i heard that was normal. My face does feel a little oiler, which i heard that could happen too. I noticed 2 little spots, but they were nothing major..i could definitely live with these kind of spots. Overall, i've really happy that i could start this medication. Cysitc acne is the worst, and i just want it to go away.
