I have had worse-than-average Acne since I was 11, which escalated steadily as I grew older and now I am a 22 year old female who, for the past 4 years has had a constant battle with cystic acne. Status: 22y/o Female 160lbs, 5'10" Today I finally went to the doctor and gave in to the idea of accutane. When I first got acne I found out the hard way that I have a reaction to isopropyl alcohol, which is found in many over-the-counter acne products for teens. In order I tried Oxy, Neutrogena, Noxzema, Pickling Salt, Shampoo (at the same time I was fighting dandruff the size of oatmeal flakes), Proactive (expensive and tedious!) for 6 months, then antibiotics... and it worked for a while so then I just kind of dealt with it. For a while it was bearable. I just got married so everything I guess on the outside was so wonderful that it didn't matter! But I'm back to where I was before all that now. I've tried antihistamines, fucidin, grapeseed oil, and Aveeno (I really like Aveeno, still). So* after three sleepless nights in a row because of being unable to rest my head on anything and the constant pain that keeps waking me up, I finally went to the doctor and decided on Accutane. But I had been to a dermatologist two years ago who said I should do accutane, but said it was 400/month, I was like "nooooo nonono" lol There was not way I could even imagine paying for that. So this time I read ahead and looked into it and found that accutane can indeed be purchased in generic form. Unfortunately being a walk-in clinic it was the end of the day and I have to come back later, but my doctor insister I get accutane no matter what the cost, and so absolutely fed up I waited to know what the price of the generic was going to be... Turns out 50-70/month! So I'm so happy, I'm going to be able to afford it. Its certainly worth all the sleep and self-confidence I'm losing. Anyways, I made some pictures of today as a starting point. I am curious to see what sort of changes will be made. As can be seen only by me (lol) the prednisone I've been prescribed today has relaxed the rest of my skin because the whole area was absolutely awash with inflammation this afternoon. You can clearly see where the blemishes are now. The oiliness is due to Fucidin, but I'm sure it would look like that either way.lol I'm supposed to start accutane sometime next Saturday after my blood tests. Aww... Looks like i can't put pictures, does anyone know how?
