I saw my dermatologist last week. She is keeping me on the 60mg for now, said she'll most probably increase next month. She also said that it would be best if I was on the meds for a full 6 months. That way I will have better results in the long run. I still have some cystic acne on my stupid jawline. Those things take forever to heal. As far as my face goes, someone told me the other day that my skin was "so pretty, like porcelain"! Can you believe it?!!! (Mind you, my skin is still rather red and scarred, but my mineral makeup does a great job of covering.) But to hear someone say that felt pretty damn good. I'll post a couple new pics, makeup free, so you can see my progress. Other than the redness, my face hasn't had a breakout in a little while. It's looking nice and smooth. It's pretty amazing how good this stuff works. I haven't had any problems with my blood work, either. The dryness has pretty much subsided, except on my chin and, of course, my lips. My body hasn't really been affected. When I first started the 60mg, I had a little bout of eczema on my hands, but it's gone now. Hopefully, everything will continue going smoothly. Thanks for reading. xo -Mees
I have reached week three of my isotretinoin treatment. Things are looking okay. Not 100% of course, but better than before I started. The patches of dryness I have seem to kinda be balancing out. Well, at least enough that I can apply a little bit of foundation to cover up the redness, cause I have a lot of it. My breakouts on my face are fewer, but I'm not gonna get happy about it, 'cause I know at anytime it can flare up again. And they seem to clear up fairly quickly. Though I still have some large cysts under my jawline/chin, but they aren't visible to anyone. My follow up appointment is next Monday, I'll ask my derm again if she can gimme some more cortisone injections. My oil production has decreased dramatically! Which I'm very, very happy about. I don't even hafta blot anymore. Something I had to do about 3 times a day, and use up 2-3 blotter each time. I never really had a problem with oily hair, but my scalp is feeling a bit itchy. My lips bother me the most. They are so chapped they hurt, especially my top lip and the corners crack often. I apply Aquaphor like crazy. The corners of my nose are cracked, too. I forgot to post photos of me last week, but I'll but some up today so you can see the progress. Thanks for reading. xo -Mees
So, I was checking out my iPledge status and my derm's office had entered the wrong dr. in my information. So when I changed it, it wiped my whole status out! WHen I called my office and informed them of this, they said it might push my treatment back a whole month! So after about an hour of phone calls back and forth to my derm office AND the iPledge hotline, who said that it shouldn't be a problem at all, since sometimes dr.s names do have to be changed, I'm not sure what my status is now. The iPledge people say it's totally fine and I don't have to wait since I've done all necessary testing, but the nurse at my derm's office wasn't so sure. I'm gonna be beyond bummed if I gotta wait another 30 days, for trying to correct a mistake that the office made! Of course, I'll let you all know on Monday. Wish me luck. xoxo -Mees UPDATE: Everything has been taken care of! THere's officially no problem. Monday should go smoothly.
I have one week under the belt. Not too much to report. Seems like it's already helped that gnarly b/o I had go down a lot. I'm gonna put some new photos up, which you can see in my gallery. It looks so much better compared to 2 weeks ago. I still haven't gotten the all over flake. Just mainly in the areas where I have the most active acne. Still enough to make any sort of cover up look horrible. My lips are very dry, and the corners are red. I'm anxious to get the dreaded IB, I just want to get that over with! Some news that I didn't share last post, my dr. was concerned that I might be having some major hormonal problems. She thinks that may have something to do with it, since these bad b/o came on so suddenly. She said if I am having trouble with that, I may have to change to a different treatment. But, I won't find that out until my next blood test, which is next month. As always, I'll post when I have something else to report. Thanks again, xo -Mees
Finally, one month of being on Accutane! I must say, and I hope I don't jinx myself by doing so, but my skin is looking much better. I'm even starting to feel a little confident. The dryness is starting to even out, except for my lips! They are still way chapped all the time. My doc just upped my dosage, I just hope my skin doesn't get much drier. I'll now be taking 60mg instead of the 40mg. She did this since I've had such a god response on the 40. Again, I really hope it doesn't get super dry! It's evened out to the point where I can actually wear some cover up. My skin is still pretty red at the areas where the acne has cleared. I haven't had any major problems thus far, and I hope t continues that way. I'll post some photos soon. Thanks for reading. xo -Mees
Monday is my follow up appt. with my dermatologist. I'll know if all my blood work checks out and hopefully I will walk out of there with my prescription. My skin seems to be getting worse everyday. It doesn't help when my boss makes me feel super lousy for it. I understand his frustration, being that I'm an esthetician and can't seem to get my skin under control. But it's not my fault! I'm frustrated, too! I've had this problem for years and years. I've used so many medications, my skin and body have become very resistant to antibiotics and BP, even topical tretinoin doesn't do much. He asks me almost everyday when I'm gonna start my treatment, and everyday I give him the same answer. i don't think he realizes that my skin is going to get much worse before it gets better. Needless to say, my day at work sucked. I just keep telling myself that it'll be better soon. I posted a couple of pictures in the 'Accutane Gallery', but apparently they'll be approved in about 24hrs. If you're interested in seeing my progress, check 'em out.. Thanks to anyone that's reading and it feels pretty damn good to be able to share with people who actually know how I'm feeling. I'm trying to not let it get me down, but that's a bit tough... xo -Mees
I've never been one to let my acne get to me. I have it. It's there. There's not much I can do about it. But lately, I've been letting it get to me. All of my friends are out at a birthday party tonight having bbq and a good time and I'm here at home because I'm too embarrassed to face them. I know it's gonna be a while for my skin to start looking normal again, but I just cannot wait to get started. I wanna be able to go out and not feel so cruddy about how I look. I'm sure there's plenty of you out there who know how I feel. I just gotta keep telling myself that it'll be better, not too soon, but later is better than never, right? Thanks all.. xoxo -Mees
Whoa, I didn't realize it's been so long since I've written! Honestly, there hasn't really been much to report about. Everything has been the same. The dryness of my skin has balanced out. It's not as bad as it was in the earlier months. Though, my lips are still way dry all the time. What's up with that?! I still have some redness and scarring, but my Dr says that it should start to diminish in the upcoming months. (hope so!) This is my last month on Accutatne and I couldn't be any happier! My skin has held up pretty well, I've gotten a few breakouts here and there, but they're baby ones compared to what I was getting. You saw the pics! I can't help but be a negative Nelly and I keep thinking that as soon as I'm off the meds, my acne's gonna come back. Oh, how I hope t stays away! I of course will keep some updates post accutane. I will also put some photos up of the current condition of my skin. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Thanks for reading.
Hello, I'm new to this site but not to Accutane. I am a 27 year old female who has suffered with acne, in various severities, since I was 12 years old. I was first prescribed Accutane when I was 15 years old and took several bouts of it for about two years. I had severe cystic and nodular acne. When I was through with my treatment, my skin after that kept very clear and was never oily for quite sometime. Of course, I'd have some very minor b/o here and there but nothing in comparison to what I had been getting. About 2 years ago, my b/o started getting more frequent, but the cystic acnes hadn't come back. So at that time, it was a little easier to get under control. As the months rolled on, it got worse and worse. It is now back in full force. In the past 2 months, my acne has come back with a vengeance. I've even been breaking out on my back, which I have never had a problem with. My face is super oily and I'm getting clusters of cystic inflammation. I am an esthetician, a career I chose for obvious reasons, and even with all that I have at my fingertips I have had no avail. I had a very pleasant experience while I was on Accutane, but this time around I was a bit hesitant. But I have finally reached my breaking point and being in the business I'm in, I need something that I know is going to work. I'm going in tomorrow for my first round of blood tests and my follow up appointment is next Monday. I'll find out my dosage and length of treatment then, I suppose. For anyone that is interested in following my progress, I will post again next week. Thanks for reading. Happy Accutane-ing! xoxo Mees
Really, not much to report. I am getting some very slight flaking in areas where there's more active acne. Like my chin, where I get the worst of it, and a little on my cheeks. I got a couple of gnarly new little suckers on my chin, but that's about it. Nothing too major. Will write again soon, as usual. Thanks.. xo Mees
I woke up this morning with dry lips... already! I'm serious! I've been applying Aquaphor. My skin looks less inflammed thanks to the cortisone injections my derm gave me yesterday, so I'm thankful for that. Thats all the news for today. I'll write again when something else happens! Thanks for reading. xo Mees
i woke up today with a little b/o. Some small pustules around my lips, which hurt even though they're so small! And a few at my upper and lower cheek on the right side. I hope this is the start of IB. i just really wanna get that over with. I do have some cystic acne, of course, it's mostly at my jawline and under my chin, not really visible to others so that's okay. Still no all over flakiness, just at the more active areas of acne. My lips aren't really peeling, they just feel tight, I guess i the best way to describe it. The corners feel sore though. My body and hair seem okay, not dry... yet. I am noticing a bit of irritation of my face, too. When I wash it or put on moisturizer, it's starting to sting a bit. So I'm expecting the peeling to come soon, I hope. I wish I could just hibernate while all the gnarly stuff happens! I'll keep you posted. Thanks again! xo Mees
So I just came back from the pharmacy with my 30 day supply of isotretinoin. I'm gonna have a meal right now, and swallow my first pill. My dr. put me on 40 mg to start, then up it once my IB and side effects has gone down. She was also nice enough to inject my cystic acne with some cortisone to reduce the inflammation 'cause my face was hurting! I actually got called into work, so I'm bummed about going since I look like hell after those injections. Oh well. I'll post as soon as I see the first sight of side effects. Thanks again for reading. xo Mees
Hey all! I know I haven't written in a few weeks, but there hasn't been much to write about. Everything's been going pretty well. I've been on the 60mg for about 3 weeks and seems to be going good. My face has gotten a bit more flaky and a bit more sensitive. My lips are still the same! Suuuuuuper dry all the time. It's kinda gnarly. I hadn't been getting any breakouts at all but in the past week, some have come up. Maybe due to the new dose? Nothing major, it's all still at the jawline. And they are cystic. What's up with that? Only in that area. Weird, but better than smack dab in the middle of my face! I must say, I'm having a really great response to the meds. I wonder if I have to be on it for the full 6 months? I'm gonna talk to my derm about that next time I see her. Hope all you in the states had a nice Thanksgiving. Thanks for reading. xo -Mees
Today marks two weeks that I've been on isotretinoin. I still haven't gotten the all over dryness and flakiness, it's still just at the most active areas of acne. I'm getting steady break-outs, but they seem to clear up fairly quickly, but just to be replaced by new ones and so on and so on. The worst of it is at my upper lip. With how dry and tight my lips are, those break outs are making them feel worse and swollen. My whole muzzle feels tight, like if I laugh too hard or smile too big, that area of my face is just gonna crack in half! But my skin is purging, so that's good. I hope most of it comes out now, so when my dr ups my dosage, my skin doesn't go extra nuts. Also, my scalp has gotten drier and is a bit itchy. A lot of my oiliness has gone, which makes me happy. My skin is feeling a bit more irritating when I wash, or apply cream. I'm handling things much better now. This is a transition, and I know things will eventually get better. i have to go through this bad part to get to the good and I've come to terms with that. Thanks for reading. xo -Mees
Thirteen weeks?! It seems like it's been much longer than that! I had my follow up last week. My doc says she's very please with my results so far and that February will be my last month on the meds! She says I will still continue to see improvement when I'm off the meds, so I'm happy about that. There's not too much to report, I just wanted to check in. My skin feels so soft and smooth, I can't believe that it's actually mine. The only real bummer is all the scarring and redness I have. It makes me look like I have breakout when I don't at all. I hope that at least most of it will subside soon. I would love to be to the point where I don't have to wear any cover up. All that dryness is pretty much gone. Except on my lips! They're still way dry and cracked all the time. I'm constantly applying lip balm. Though, I am starting to get some other side effects. My body is achy ALL the time. I already had bursitis in my hip before I started the meds, but lately it's been really bad and painful. I've been getting headaches more often that can last up to 3 days. Almost like really mild migraines. I also get tired more quickly than before. All this stuff started probably a little over a month ago, but have since gotten a little worse. Hopefully, they don't last much longer after I stop the meds. I'm gonna talk to my doc about all that upon my next visit. That's pretty much it. I'll post some new photos. There is a very mild improvement since the last ones I posted. But you'll be able to see the scarring I'm talking about. It seems to take a while for the site to approve them. They'll probably be there in a few days. Thanks for reading and for the support. -Mees
