Sooo I stopped taking roaccutane on the 30th of April.
It took about a month for my lips to go back to normal, but they did in the end.
No more dry skin either, no more back pain.
My hair is greasier again, which I dont really mind, it looks ALOT healthier now, and it's not as bad as before roaccutane, I wash it every three days now.
No pimples or spots whatsoever.
I do seem to tan more easily now though. Normally I dont tan at all, but now Im quite brown. Im guessing this has something to do with roaccutane? Im considering using a sunbed, just once, but Im scared I havent been off for long enough...
THANK YOU ROACCUTANE! Its been more than worth it! Hardly any side effects, great skin
Haven't updated this in aaaaages!
So. I have been taking roaccutane for 8 months minus 10 days now.
I didn't see any improvements during the first 4 months, but after that, I got lots and lots better.
Right now, I don't have any acne whatsoever. So so happy!
In March, I ran out of roaccutane and had to wait for 2 weeks until I could take it again.
My lips and hair got so much better during those 2 weeks, so Im positive that they will go back to normal after my treatment.
(well, I do hope my hair will be less greasy then it used to be, but my dermatologist did say that would be the case, so it's all good)
Right now though, my lips are soooo dry. but they dont look too bad, so I'll live
My hands, arms and legs are quite dry as well, but a good moisturizer does the job.
My back pain has returned, but I only feel it when I'm doing like handstands and stuff like that, so I guess it's my own fault.
However, one of my friends, who used to have looooads of acne, more than me, has a perfectly clear skin now too, and she didn't take anything! It just disappeared.. Makes me wonder if I actually needed roaccutane. maybe my acne would have disappeared by itself too... Then again, maybe not, so I'm not complaining
So happy to be rid of it!
Will try to update this a couple of weeks after I stop taking it, to let you know whether all side effects have disappeared.
HELLO PERFECT SKIN!
My skin is definitely getting better. My back is more or less clear. Still some old red marks, but they're quite light and I expect them to fade in the next couple of weeks. No new spots at all. YAY!
My face is also finally clearing up. Not entirely clear yet, and I still get the occassional spot - or spotS I should say. I think I have about 3 big ones in my neck now, and some spots that aren't really pimples, just red marks that doesn't make me have an even skintone. But they dont 'stick out' like pimples normally do, so with a little concealer and foundation they disappear, unlike the big ones which look no longer red with concealer/foundation, but you can still see them..
On another note, I found the perfect concealer - N.Y.C. New York Color Cover Stick if you want to know - and my good old foundation - L'Oreal Paris True Match W3 Gold Natural Powder, foundation-like coverage. (I shouldve known Boots wouldnt have it, hellooo Superdrug!)
I was so happy when I finally found this, I swear it's the perfect coverage!
Something else now. I read in one of the other blogs that the dry lips (which are still my only side-effect - even the back pain has disappeared) make kissing horrible. I dont agree. My lips look awful after some hours ;p, but it still feels the same. I do wonder if it feels any different for the person you're kissing though. I bet it does..
SO happy my skin is looking better, will have a lovely Christmas and New Year('s Eve) and I wish you all the same!
Yay!! FINALLY some improvement!
So my back is pretty much clear now (not completely but oh well), which is a huuuge relief. For some reason, Ive always found bacne worse than facial acne. For some reason, facial acne seems more... acceptable in my eyes. Bacne is just... eeeeww.
My face is getting worse again, which is really frustrating after freakin' 96 days! And on top of that, Ive run out of foundation and for some reason I can't find any decent foundation in this country. The one I used to buy in my country is perfect, hides everything but still makes your face look natural. In the UK, every foundation either doesnt hide the spots or makes me look orange (absolutely hate having a pale skin..). If anyone knows what kind of foundation I should buy here, please PLEASE let me know!
My forehead is clear though, but I have a fringe so that doesnt really matter. I think the mean reason for my clear forehead is the fact that my hair is less greasy - in fact, not greasy at all, but SUPERdry - and therefore my fringe doesnt give me spots anymore. It's not actually the roaccutane thats cleared it up from the inside of my skin..
I have a new problem zone as well, the zone between my eyes and my ears just got alot worse. I never used to have acne there. My cheekbones are slowly getting better, but they're still not exactly clear.
Something completely else now, Ive been reading some of the other blogs, and everytime I read things like "I'd heard about the many side-effects, but..." "I asked my derm to put me on accutane" "Even though the side-effects scared me at first,..."
I'd never even heard of roaccutane before I started taking it.. Is that weird? Im pretty sure none of my friends know it either..
I wonder if anyone actually reads this. If not, then at least I can just write it off my chest. It's not completely useless as long as I think there's someone reading my complaints about how terrible my life is. Whining can feel so good sometimes. Haha.
So I was so sick of not having any improvement at all. I started taking 40mg/day instead of 30. My derm does not know this. I'm an idiot, I know.
Anyway, It's like the 9th day Im on 40mg today, I will go back to 30mg in 3 days, and I haven't noticed any difference at all. No extra side-effects, no improvement. FML
A few days ago, I went to my dermatologist.
He said he could see improvement. My forehead is more or less clear.
That might be true, but I have a fringe anyway, so I don't really care that much.
He admitted that my neck, the part just under my ears, still looks pretty awful. Foundation seems to hide most of it nowadays though. But still, it's not very nice. My shoulders aren't exactly attractive either. And there are still some spots on my arms as well.
My chin has always been quite unpredictable. Sometimes it stays clear for weeks, and then suddenly like 25 spots appear out of nowhere. That hasn't changed at all. It's okay right now though. My cheeks are still in the same state as well. Not a lot of spots - just no flawless, even skin.
My cheekbones are terrible, as always. (Well, that's not true actually. My cheekbones used to be completely clear. I only had acne on my forehead, chin and shoulders when I was younger. It just got a lot worse about 1.5 year ago.. :/)
My hair's really REALLY dry now. I used to wash it every other day, sometimes even every day. I haven't washed it in 5 days now. Sounds disgusting, but it's not greasy at all. It just keeps getting dryer. I will wash it tomorrow though, just for the sake of it.
He (my dermatologist) thought about putting me on 40mg/day instead of 30, but decided against it in the end. He thought it was too risky because I wear contacts. And because I don't have severe acne, just moderate. Very persistent moderate acne though. He told me it would take a lot longer to clear my skin - I'm on a 8 month-course - but it would in the end. I can only hope it's true.
I forgot to take any lip balsem or vaseline today. Nightmare!
I have such a headache right now. Could be due to a lack of sleep though.
My acne seems to get a little better now. Still no 'clear up overnight' effect though...
Day 60 and still no improvement. Im getting desperate!
My back hurts a little more often than usual now.
And Ive got a sore neck. But that might be due to the fact that it's freezing outside, and I was stupid enough not to take any winter clothes with me to uni, resulting in a cold and a sore neck. Or due to a combination of Roaccutane and cold weather. Whatever.
I keep using LOADS of foundation to hide my acne, which makes me look orange, but Id rather look orange than having my face covered in red spots.
My back acne seems to be a teeensy bit better though. But maybe that's just wishful thinking..
My face is still worse than before Roaccutane, which is a little frustrating.
Going to the dermatologist in 16 days. Finally.
After what seemed like the worst day in my life - headaches (not because of Roaccutane btw, just a lack of sleep), missed lectures, tube problems, debit card trouble, bad hair day, bad food, broken tabs, broken laptop, full buses,... you get the idea - my optimism's gone completely.
I looked in the mirror this morning, and hellooo spots! No zits or blackheads, just red spots. Still wouldnt call this a breakout though, it are still the same spots as yesterday, they just seemed to look a little more red today. Maybe that's because I didnt wear my contacts during the weekend. I probably just couldnt see them.
Which means, no improvement so far.
And so the journey continues...
So basically, my acne did get better.
It's now as bad as it was before I started my Roaccutane course. A little worse maybe.
Day 50 today. I havent seen my dermatologist since he put me on Roaccutane. My next appointment is somewhere in November, so still about 4 weeks to go.
I will ask him to uppen my dose. I have hardly any side effects and I can't say that my acne got alot better uptil now. In fact, it hasn't at all. It got worse at first and now it's just getting back to 'normal'...
I should shave my legs today. Not really looking forward to it, my back aches if I bend over for more than 10 seconds. That's quite annoying, but I wouldn't say that Im in unbearable pain. Yes it hurts. For a minute or so.
Anyway, gotta take a shower now. And shave my legs.
Wish me luck!
Day 45 and my acne is still getting worse. Great.
I just want it to go away. Like now.
I also had my first Roaccutane headache. On my 18th birthday. Even better!
Tried to do some sport yesterday, can hardly move today.
Pleaseee, get better soon! :/
(PS Im not depressed, just slightly annoyed ;P)
So, I've noticed that my contacts have turned purple.
At first I thought it was just the contacts, so I threw them away. But the same thing happened to my new pair.. (I seriously regret throwing away my old pair now)
I don't have any problems with them apart from that, I don't have dry eyes and my sight is still perfect, even with the purple ones. But it worries me.
I asked my dad, he's a doctor (no dermatologist or ophthalmologist though) and he said he didn't have an explanation but didn't think I should worry...
I'm not sure if this has anything to do with Roaccutane/contraception, but it only happened after I started my course...
If anyone has experienced something similar, please do comment!
So, I had a nosebleed today. First one in aaaages. I assume this is the Roaccutane kicking in.
Acne got slightly better, still worse than before I started my course though...
This was a very short blog, but Ive got nothing new to mention. Everything else remained the same.
Answer to the thread title: Nothing really.
My acne is worse, especially on my neck, but it doesnt match the description of the IB. They're just red spots, no blackheads or zits. Also, they didnt come just at once, my acne just got gradually worse.
Side-effects: dry lips. And that's it.
The only thing that's changed is my chest. I never had acne on my chest, but my pores were just bigger than normal, like I had goosebumps all the time. That has disappeared completely. I have a very smooth chest now, and I like it. I keep rubbing my chest, it feels so nice
That's it for now.
So I decided to write a blog about my Roaccutane experiences.
Ive been suffering from acne since I was about 12 or 13. I only had mild acne on my face, neck, shoulders and upper arms, but it just wouldn't go away. I visited multiple dermatologists, tried multiple treatments, but nothing worked.
Ive always been quite insecure, and my acne didnt really help that.
About a month ago, I went to a yet another dermatologist, and after hearing my story, he said I should try Roaccutane. I'd never even heard of it.
I had a blood test (and fainted haha) and after that I could start taking Roaccutane immediately. Im currently on a dose of 30 mg/dag (that's 0.5 mg/kg) and will have to take this amount for 8 months.
Day 31 today. So far, I haven't really had any side-effects. Yes, I do have dry lips, and when I bend over my back hurts a little more than usual, but apart from that, nothing.
I don't have a dry skin, I don't have headaches, I don't have suicide thoughts, I don't have terrible hangovers (I downed a whole bottle of wine yesterday - I know that's stupid, but it's Fresher's week, Im not normally like this - and didnt even have a headache), I can still wear my contact lenses, no hairloss, no loss of concentration, etc.
Tbh, Ive experienced more side-effects from the anticonception I have to take now (Ive been on my period for over 3 weeks now).
My acne got worse during this past month. I wouldnt call it a breakout though, it's just worse. Dunno how to describe it. Im using lots and lots of foundation to hide it.
So that's my story so far. I hope my acne will disappear soon, and I might ask my dermatologist to uppen my dose to 40 mg/day.
