Hello! I'm 21 and I have been dealing with acne since I was 12. I found something that works for me and I hope it helps others with skin like mine because when you have dry skin and eczema alot of treatments may be too harsh. MY SKIN TYPE: I have eczematic skin but not on my face. I have combination-dry skin. I have blackheads, whiteheads, and sebum plugs on my nose. I have occasionally have 3 to 4 pimples. My skin tends to be red on my nose and checks. THINGS THAT DON"T WORK Clinque Acne Solutions It stung, it dried up my skin, and was too harsh for me. It did not work for me. Overall it had no affect on me. Clinque 3 Step for Combination skin The lotion was great. The toner stings a bit and can slough off some dead skin but leaves the skin dry so that its hard to put make up on. The cleanser was too drying. Overall I think it made my skin worse by drying it up. Proactive The cleanser was surprising gentle and did not leave my skin too dry. The toner was gentle but was still drying. The lotion did not moisturize for me. Overall it was good system but did not stop my acne from coming and over time it was just too drying. Neutrogena This is terrible for dry skin and doesn't work. Benxoyl Peroxide It didn't prevent WHAT WORKS? Philosophy and Cetaphil (works better than the expensive one's I've tried) are cleansers that won't dry your skin. Adding Joboba oil to my moisturizer helped me to eliminated sebum plugs on my nose without clogging my skin. For people with really dry skin try these moisturizers: Philosophy (pricey though) Clindaderm by neostrata (I think it works better than philosophy plus it cheaps) Doxycycline combined with clindamycin No side effects except for nausea if taken on an empty stomach, no dry skin, no peeling, or what so ever. The doctor put me on both at the same time after I had a really bad break out. I had scars and acne everywhere on my face. Improvement is gradual. It took about 1 month before I started getting no pimples. Also, my face became less red on the nose and cheeks as a result. The only bad thing is it does nothing for scars or blackheads. So now that my face has cleared up I stayed on doxycyline and replaced clindamycin with erythromycin - tretinoin to hopefully get rid of scars. I haven't started with tretinoin yet but I will update on it. Things to keep in mind You must apply clindamycin over the entire face because you want to prevent acne not treat existing ones. Plus its an antibiotic so you don't want any bacteria migrating. Must use antibiotics consistently to decrease the chances of resistance. You can't stay on the same antibiotic for a long period of time to avoid developing resistance. Stop for a period of time or switch to a new one. Must wear sunscreen or it can darken existing scars and I think (but not sure) that sun exposure is bad when on antibiotics because it can interfere with its effectiveness. Good luck!!
