Hey everyone. I joined this website because I thought that I would try to help others with their acne problems.
I had mild acne problems in middle school, but once I started applying Clearasil BP to my face every night, I gradually saw it go away with no scarring.
Then when I turned 18, my skin started to flare up again - this time with a more sophisticated form of acne. It was still considered pretty mild, and I was only getting it on my upper cheeks. I know that there are many people out there who have acne in more than one place, but even for me I was pretty devastated. I thought that my acne problems had gone away and that I was over it. I had been using ProActiv at that time and figured that if I just kept using it, the acne would go away in time. Nope! It was resisting the ProActiv treatments! Finally, I went to see my doctor and get some prescribed medication. She gave me clyndamycin (sp?) and trenatoin (sp?). She also told me to stop using ProActiv since the main ingredient is Benzoyl Peroxide which is mostly an acne preventative and DOESN'T treat existing acne on the face. Good to know! She instead told me to pick up a bar of Neutrogena face wash for acne-prone skin and to use a good SPF moisturizer with the medications that she had given me.
While I was on this regimen, it didn't seem to be working fully. My acne was decreasing in size but I was still breaking out regularly and getting a little bit of acne scarring.
After a few months of this same cycle, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I decided to go back and use Clearasil - the same lotion that had helped me get rid of my acne years back. I also decided to go back and use the ProActiv face wash because that would at least help me prevent new breakouts. I apply a pretty thick layer of Clearasil BP each night. And if I have any existing bumps, I will apply even MORE BP to that one specific pimple. It sounds crazy, but when I wake up the next morning my pimple is reduced in size! I continue to do this every night and I'm still amazed. During the day I will apply the gel form of BP since it goes on clear, and then apply my moisturizer over that to prevent my face from drying out. Neutrogena makes a great moisturizer with SPF!
I have also started taking birth control and have been doing so for over a year, so there's a good chance that that is having an impact as well. But whether it is or not, the regime that I have going has helped improve the overall look of my skin significantly.
