"Welcome to the boards"

Stop me if you've heard this one before: I'm 20 years old, 6'1", 149 lbs. I've had acne since I was about 15. Started out as one or two whiteheads at a time. Soon after, I noticed the appearance of stubborn blackheads, and my acne started to get nastier, with bigger nodules etc. I developed cystic acne around 17, and have been dealing with frequently occurring cysts and many persistent red marks ever since. Treatment history: I've tried a wide range of over-the-counter topical cleansers and exfoliants. Salicylic acid certainly helped to reduce the oily, glossy appearance of my skin but seemed to do very little else. I tried three separate courses of doxycycline, after which I had to admit to myself that it just wasn't working. It caused minor stomach pains and had no effect on my skin whatsoever. I had some success with benzoyl peroxide in combating blackheads, but overall was unsatisfied with the progress I'd made, especially now that I'm out of my teenage years. Currently: I've been on low dose (10mg) accutane (branded as "oratane") for two and a half weeks. I will report on my progress elsewhere in the forum when more time has passed, but so far, so good! I am looking forward to sharing my experiences on accutane. I believe that providing honest first-hand experiences and opinions to be considered, dissected, rebutted or nodded at by others is a hugely beneficial process for both participants and bystanders. Healthy intellectual debate is a wonderful thing!
