I started Accutane (Claravis, a generic version) on Tuesday, June 1st. I'm excited to see how it works and have decided to blog about this adventure.
I was on Accutane once before, 10 years ago. I took it for about 3-4 months and then my health insurance was cancelled and I was no longer able to afford it. It was amazing for me at that time. My skin cleared up and was actually pretty for the first time since I was about 9.
Since that time I've struggled with acne that is not nearly as severe, but it ridiculously persistent. I've tried a host of prescription and non-prescription treatments, but nothing has worked too well.
In April of this year I experienced another breakout and I was really frustrated. I went to the dermatologist expecting a new type of cream or maybe just some new advice and he recommended Accutane right away. I was honestly a little bit surprised. It wasn't what I expected to hear, but I figured that maybe this can be a cure for the daily frustration of having skin that loves to break out.
Here's what I'm excited about:
No more breakouts
Less oily skin
Less oily hair
Skin that I actually enjoy looking at in the mirror
Here's what I'm nervous about:
JOINT PAIN (I absolutely HATE feeling achy)
Dandruff (never had it before, but I've read it can happen)
Hair falling out (again, didn't experience it last time, but still nervous about it)
I'll be taking 60 mg a day (in 2 doses) for 6 months. Hopefully this will be worth it. I'll keep you up-to-date.
