Right, I've come to the conclusion that the green mask is not going to work for me a well as I want it to. If anything, its best use is to dab on inflamed spots, as it does seem to calm them down.
Other than that, it just seems to be a nice face mask, very good at clearing oily skin but not an acne cure (not for me anyway -skin too dry)
My skin lately has become frazzled, dry, feels like I've been out in the Sahara desert for a week with no water. Looks very dehydrated. And I'm still SPOTTY!!!!!!!!!!! AAAARRRGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!
So last week I stopped at the Estee Lauder counter at my local chemist and decided to go for some high end products. I've got a cleanser and toner best suited to dehydrated skin. I also got a night repair synchronised serum from ebay as it has rave reviews and is 'miraculous' stuff. Also got some estee freebies: estee's time zone spf 15 day cream, estee's day serum, estee's wrinkle lifting serum and estee's eye cream. I've applied them all and my skin does look cleaner, pores are smaller but it's still dry. Early days yet though and I am impatient. I do like the spf 15 day cream so far.
Last night I was at my wits end (again), skin still looked awful and I felt really low. I've had some glycolic acid stored away for quite a while, bought it on ebay but never got round to using it. I got a kit where you can mix the strength of the peel yourself. Did a bit of research and decided to go for 25%. Put it on (yes it stings) and left it on for 4 minutes. Rinsed off, then cleansed & toned, applied moisturiser. I'm very pleased with the results. Skin looked scarily radioactive last night, but this morning it just looks radiant. Pores very small, fine lines across my forehead have virtually disappeared, and it doesn't feel dry at all. Still have the remainder of my latest breakout but that just needs to heal. Really quite excited about glycolic acid as the change overnight is so dramatic. Feeling good today.
I'm going to apply again in a week.
I'm also going to start using 20% azelaic acid cream soon (waiting for it to arrive)
Ah, I see my pictures did not show up in yesterday's blog. Oh well.
I didn't apply the alien mask last night in the end, thought I'd give my face (and my family) the night off
I did apply blobs of it to certain spots to see whether they'd go down overnight. They do seem to get better if you do this. My husband thinks I look insane, which of course I do...but I don't care.
I also applied benzol peroxide (10%, it's all I had last night) lightly to my whole face and neck. My neck is looking a lot better since I've been using this mask btw...really pleased about that. It really gets me down when my neck looks bad as well. Soooooooooooo embarrassing. Sometimes I don't want to set foot outside my front door or look in the mirror. Horrible isn't it?
Skin is hardly flaky at all now but I am getting some new spots on my face, nothing awful, just a few bumps under the skin. Still annoying grrrrrrrrrr
It's a new treatment for me though so I have to be patient. I am going to apply it tonight and I've also had an idea : I think I'll put on a load of BP (4%) after I take the mask off. Could be a good time to apply while the pores are still open. Hopefully our friend P.acnes will have no time to react to such a vicious onslaught. I certainly hope so. I'll also moisturise afterwards.
So I was thinking last night, after putting on my green Mint Julep face mask and looking like an alien....
all my skin related misery over the last umpteen years has been down to P.acnes, a tiny bacteria that lurks beneath the skin surface (harmlessly for the lucky ones - good for you - excellent) but which causes despair and frustration for the rest of us.
I found a picture of it on the net...here it is:(I'm not sure whether these links will work or not, they don't in the preview)
doesn't look very impressive does it?
but P.acnes is STUBBORN and anyone who could invent a universal cure would become an overnight sensation, like Susan Boyle:
no pun intended with the surname there btw.
I've created a Reward poster to encourage skin scientists to ........TRY HARDER!!!!!!!!!
We've all been waiting long enough!
Back to reality and today's progress with my Queene Helene regime: skin looking ok, a few spots but no major breakouts but still a bit flaky. Not as dramatic as the results I got with Smooth & Clear (though as I said, this gave me perfect skin for about a week and then stopped working)
For now it's back to tonight's green mask application. It's alien time again!
Applied mask again last night, applied moisturiser afterwards, and this morning my skin looked fairly bright. Still a bit flaky. Got a couple of new spots yesterday afternoon so I also applied a dot of the mask to those overnight. They'd calmed down by this morning.
For a cheap treatment, it seems to be working well so far. Certainly hasn't made my skin any worse.
Verdict so far: my skin is improving but I still look better with the facemask ON!
applying again tonight. I know I probably shouldn't apply every night but I have nothing to lose so I don't care
I'm trying this mask because I'm at my wits end with my face grrrrrr. My acne has been really awful for about a year now. Have suffered with acne on and off for years. As you can imagine I've tried pretty much everything bar roaccutane, and having read about some of the side effects of that particular treatment you couldn't pay me to go and pick up the prescription.
So, I've bought this mask and I'm hoping for some results.
Here's what my skin is usually like: dry, with flaking skin that becomes itchy and makes me want to scratch, and obviously also spotty- how can that be...it makes no sense! aaaarrrggghhhhhh!
I applied the mask thickly to face and neck last night and left it on for about 20 mins. Rinsed off gently (it's a fight to get it off), patted my face dry and applied Day Time Moisturiser for acne prone skin by Smooth & Clear.
Skin felt a lot less itchy and looked very clean.
This morning I still have some flakiness, but overall my skin looks and feels calmer. It also looks brighter. No new spots.
Good so far, but I don't want to get my hopes up. Smooth & Clear gave me perfect skin for about a week and then suddenly stopped working. Antibiotics work for about a month. Dan's method worked brilliantly for a while.
I'm going to apply the masque again tonight.
