Went to my last derm apt yesterday, and I'm finished! Just finished my 4th month, and I'm free and clear of all acne. My triglyceride levels were extremely high, so that's the main reason she stopped treatment, but she said she was going to stop me anyways. I have to go for a follow-up blood test this week to double check the triglycerides, and another in 30 days for my final pregnancy test. Doc wants me to to RetinA now, as a maintenance to make sure it doesn't come back. I am very hopeful that I don't have to go through this again. I'm so over the dry lips and skin and sunburn. I just want to get my damn tattoo finished!
So....all in all I would highly recommend Accutane to anyone. I absolutely love what this has done for my skin and my self esteem.
Just started my 4th (and hopefully last) month. I've been clear for about the last month or so. The red dots are quickly fading, face is looking really good.
The sensitivity to the sun is a little ridiculous. If you have a choice on the timing of your accutane, take it in the winter months. I can't really go out and enjoy summer because I burn no matter what spf I have on. My nose is currently shedding about 1390752357 layers of skin and totally raw from a nasty sun burn. And yes, I had spf 50 on. Next time I'll be using spf 100.
The lips are getting worse, I believe from the sun.
Other than the little nuissances, everything is great! I am not ashamed to wear my swimsuit because of the acne on my back anymore...because I have NONE!
I can't wait to get off this so I can get my tattoos finished. I think this is the longest I've gone without getting a tattoo, only because my dr has strictly warned me not to.
Until next time....
Not too much to report, just went to my derm to start my 3rd month. I asked her what she thought of my progress and if I would be sticking with the 5 month plan, or going on with a 6th. She said I would probably only need to complete 4 months. She went on to say that my skin is looking great and should be crystal clear this month. I sure hope she's right. I hate these pills.
As far as the side effects go, none really. Face is a tad dry still, and still have dry lips. Was in North Carolina on the beach for a few days....loaded up with spf 70 and had no issues with sunburn. Still as pasty as ever!
Day 53 here. The morning after I posted my last entry I woke up with 2 pimples, one on my cheek and one on my neck again. Those are the worst! But they're gone now.
My daughter had a t-ball game on Sunday and I ran out of the house without sunscreen on. By the time I realized it, it was too late to turn back. BAD IDEA!!!
I was only out for about an hour and a half, but the sun was blazing. I'm freakin fried up like a lobster!
My moisturizer has spf in it, so my face is fine, but my arms are red as can be and really starting to dry out. DO NOT LEAVE THE HOUSE WITHOUT SUNSCREEN!
I'm a bit worried because I'm going to visit a friend in North Carolina next week and our plan is to sit on the beach all day all weekend. I hope spf 75 will keep me safe.
Other than that, no real side effects. Dry lips of course, and still tired.
I've had a couple of comments of people being surprised that I'm clear so early into treatment. I just want to clarify that my skin was pretty clear before I even started treatment. But with my history of breakouts (terrible, terrible breakouts especially in the summer months), I wanted to keep it clear. I'm tired of messing around with over the counter bullshit that doesn't work. Although, I did start using Neutrogena Acne System about 6 months before I started Accutane, and that shit it AWESOME. After Accutane I will continue using it and hope I stay clear forever.
Nothing really new to update with. Still no new breakouts. I am noticing a few red dots on my face from the old acne. Hopefully that will go away.
Pretty much the only side effect now is the tiredness. I did ride my bike 20 miles last weekend and there was no joint pain afterwards.
I think it's going to take me a while to get used to the face that I don't have to hide anymore. I hated wearing tank tops because of the occassional pimple I'd have on my back or shoulder. Don't have to worry about it anymore!
I have to say...I feel like I'm looking pretty damn good. No bumps, no redness, I can almost say my skin as soft as a baby's ass. I don't know that I've ever really said that. The texture of my face is just so soft and smooth.
Still experiencing a tiny bit of dryness on my chin, but I throw a little polysporin on in the morning, and I'm good all day.
It is taking quite a while for the couple that I had on my neck to go away. I think that the skin on the neck is just a bit more sensitive and harder to heal, again I've been using polysporin to get them to go away faster.
Other than a little bit of dryness on my chin, I'm not having any other side effects.
OH! I also got my period this week, and no breakout leading up to it! That used to be my biggest issue. I would always break out before my period, by the time everything went away the cycle began again.
I am extremely happy with my progress and the process. My little bitchy, whiney moaney shit in the first month or so was me being a baby. I would totally do it all over again to get these kind of results, and I'm not even finished with month two.
I really hope this will be the last of my fight with acne....I'm too old for this shit!
well...i have to say i woke up this morning thinking my skin looked great! i haven't been able to say that for a long time. no makeup, just out of bed, feeling great.
usually i wake up with enough oil to fry an egg, but i haven't had that for a while. i feel like i can actually run to the store in the morning without showering or washing my face first.
the red marks are starting to go down in brightness. i actually feel sort of pretty! i've been working out too, just trying to lose 10-20 lbs. hopefully by the time im off accutane i will have lost the weight and i'll feel great!
still have the dry chin and the rash on my arms. the rash is going away nicely. i've been lotioning up right after the shower which i think helps.
still feeling awfully tired. other than that, no real bad side effects.
Still no new pimples, just trying to heal the old ones. These little shits are leaving awesome red marks on my face. One red circle on each side of my jaw, and two the right side of my neck, one on my left neck. There's nothing there, no scab, pimple, bump, nothing. Just a red circle. Go away already!!!!!!
No new side effects really, my chin seems to be a more more dry than usual though.
Rode my bike 10 miles yesterday and no joint pain or anything.
Oh, I do still have this rash on my arms. I've really been piling the lotion on and it seems to be helping.
I've been extremely exhausted lately. I notice about 2-3 weeks ago that I'm definitely more tired than usual. I feel like I want to take a nap every single day.
Well that's all - over and out.
I can't figure out how to put pictures in here, so I'm not sure I'll be adding anymore.
ok where do i begin.
little over a month in, doing just dandy. haven't had a new breakout in a while. currently only have 1 active on my chin. it would probably be gone by now if i hadn't picked at it. DO NOT PICK!!!! it makes it a zillion times worse. popping a zit on accutane is not like popping a zit on any ordinary day. i get this huge dried out circle and it takes forever to heal. polysporin is really helping to heal them fast!
so i feel another one coming up on my chin and i'm going to leave it alone!
The overall complexion is looking a shit ton (yes it's a metric unit) better. No more oil and just a lot smoother all over.
oh this is just a huge pile of fun.
so...dry lips, dry skin of course.
rash on my hands and arms....just beautiful.
pimples on my neck are going away. i have 1 on the left side and 3 on the right, currently only 1 pimple on my jawline.
i forgot to mention that i had pink eye last week. i didnt realize that was also a side effect of the accutane.
so..combine the dry lips, dry skin, rash on my hands and arms, pink eye and pimples on my neck.....pretty sight huh? i am desperately hoping this gets better really soon.
Ok I'm giving a quick run down. Had my dr apt 2 days ago, everything is fine. I was told it wouldn't be a good idea to get a tattoo while on accutane, total suckage.
side effects: dry skin continues, not super bad. lips are still dry. i've developed a rash on my arms. it's really attractive. my neck is breaking out really bad. my pimples seem to be taking longer to heal now. like....a really really long time.
that's about all.
1 month down, 4 more to go. this can't go fast enough.
I'm fed up with this shit. I feel like ass today, might be coming down with the flu? Skin is all dry and gross. Polysporin really helps heal the gross pimples I can't stop picking at. I never realized how many blackheads I had, they've decided to have a party on my face. I guess it's a good thing they're all coming out, but really looks like shit. I need to find a good concealer to cover this garbage up.
I'm tired all the time. All I want to do is sleep.
Haven't really had the headaches lately. Blood test tomorrow, I couldn't wake up early enough today to go. These monthly dr. apts are really a pain in the ass with a full time job and 2 kids!
My skin is looking like shiiiiiiiiiiiit. I have got to stop picking. I have 4 disgusting red marks on my face that I cannot stop messing with. My nose is peeling. Such a flattering look. I got quite lightheaded yesterday so I had to lay down for a while. Not sure if that's the accutane or my sinus issues. I have been extremely tired. Not good for someone with 2 small kids.
Blood work tomorrow for my second month, hopefully everything looks fine. It's amazing to me how much worse my skin looks now than before I started. I actually had zero breakouts when I started accutane, I just wanted to keep them from coming because I knew at some point they would.
Woke up with a giant whitehead on my nose this morning. Why is it that nose zits hurt so damn badly??? I've got another starting to come up on my upper lip, but I'm going to do my best at leaving it alone.
I'm pretty much oil free now...no more shiney face. The only part of my face that is a bit dry is my nose and eyebrows. I think I'm totally digging the Cerave moisturizer.
I currently only have 3 active pimples...but I have 3 old ones are are totally dried out. That's pretty much the suckiest thing so far. Once my zits are gone, you can still see the dried out ring around it. Eeewwa.
My tailbone still hurts, I think it's just from skateboarding.
Headaches have subsided.
I do have a few dry patchy things on my arm, rash? I've been putting Cerave on that too, seems to be helping. Lips still dry, but not horribly.
I'll try to take a pic tonight to show how my process is going so far.
well my lips dont seem to be terribly dry anymore. i've only used aquaphor three times today (it's 6:20pm). i developed a nice white head on my cheek yesterday, but it's gone today. went to see my brother in laws band yesterday, didnt have a single drink. that sucked, but i didnt want to wake up looking horrible again.
the headaches are a real pain in the ass. combined with my sinus issues, these headaches are almost unbearable. i'm not normally a pill popper, i try to find natural remedies for everything, so on top of the accutane twice a day, my birth control once a day, sinus meds and tylenol, i feel like a drug addict.
rode my skateboard for about an hour yesterday, that wasn't a great idea. my joints hurt all over...knees and back especially. i've pretty much been in bed all day today, i'm a lot more tired than usual. i also skipped the coffee this morning. i'm going to try to at least cut down, if not give it up. but it's just sooooooooooooooooooooo good.
another day down. looking forward to having really clear skin. especially since bathingsuit season is coming...it would be nice to have a clear back.
dry dry dry lips. no flaking skin or anything. no new pimples. the ones are had are pretty much gone. my face isnt red anyore. my hair was looking fantastic yesterday. i could probably go without a wash today. i have been feeling a bit dehydrated. trying to drink a lot of water.
i do notice that when i get my xlarge coffee in the morning, i get a bit light-headed. so i try to drink it with a huge glass of water. i should probably quit the coffee. but it goes so well with the cigarettes. shit.
I'm already sick of popping pills. Day 13, no new pimples, just waiting for the others I got over the last few days to go away. Dry skin, cerave has been good with keeping that under control. Dry lips, super sucky. No more itchy scalp.
I really should have gotten my brows waxed before I started this process. They're looking out of control, and I am not to be trusted with tweezers. Shit...another 4.5 months with bushy eyebrows. The price we pay for beauty.
feeling like shit. got another little shit on my upper lip. my neck decided it also wants to break out...wtf??? I've never had acne on my neck. the few pimples that i do have are really dried out and painful. this sucks this sucks this sucks. i hope i dont have anything to do in the next 4.5 months.
Definitely starting to dry out, nose and chin. Woke up with a new monster on my right cheek. Nothing has really developed yet, but there's a definite red mark of something trying to break through. Good news is the mosters I woke up with on Sunday are almost gone. The red dot is still there, but no bumps. My face is reddening, and everyones been asking if I've gone tanning. Too bad the rest of my body is still pale as a ghost.
My monthly "friend" is coming soon, so I'm wondering if this breakout is from that. I pretty much feel like shit now, I don't want anybody looking at me. I'm wondering how long this breakout/redness is going to last, and how bad it's actually going to get.
I haven't been using much makeup because I don't want to clog my pores. I hate liquid foundation, but I'm thinking I should invest in some to cover this redness. I've been using Bare Minerals powder. Any recommendations on a non-pore clogging liquid primer/foundation is HIGHLY recommended.
The aquaphor is starting to piss me off, I'm noticing myself having to use it every 5 minutes or so. Sucks. Last night I left work and forgot the aquaphor on my desk, had a nice hour train ride and 15 minute drive before I got home and some relief from my extra tube of aquaphor.
If this is what I have to go through to get clear skin, it's worth it. But this does suck.
I'm starting to wonder if those three zits i woke up with are from drinking the night before. I only had a few beers (3 to be exact), but was doing so well up until then, and have no new breakouts since then. Guess I won't be drinking for the next 4.5 months! That sucks.
I feel like the existing breakouts I did have are becoming much more red, and are scarring a bit. I've never really had issues with scarring, so now I have these red marks and I'm a little pissed off about it. The three fuckers I woke up with yesterday seem to be going away very quickly.
Itchy scalp, nothing horrible. Not super dry or anything yet.
Back when I did retinA and some other meds my skin got so dry it was peeling off and raw! Just raw...almost immediately. So far, accutane doesn't even come close to that.
Oh well.....continuing the journey....
well i managed to stay clear for my night out saturday. woke up today with three very small pimples. one whitehead on my chin, and two small red bumps along my nose, right where my sunglasses sit. i feel like my skin is evening out color-wise. definitely less oily. i'm a bit more itchy, my scalp for sure. nothing i can't tolerate. no peeliness yet. lips are dry, but aquaphor has really helped. no peeling or anything on the lips either. since im starting to get a few breakouts, im starting to wonder if it's about to get bad. still hoping that i'm one of the few that doesn't go through the initial breakout. time will tell.
Other than a little bit of an itchy scalp, I'm doing just dandy.
I had one little zit pop up on my jaw line yesterday, it's pretty much gone today. No dry eyes, my face isn't really dry today. I've been pretty good about using the Cerave lotion daily. That initial breakout just hasn't come yet. I really really hope it never does.
I'm a bit surprised that for being on a somewhat high dose (80mg/day), I haven't had worse side effects.
Going out tomorrow night for some awesome punk rock shows, and I swear if this initial breakout hits before the shows I'm going to flip!
I feel like a broken record. Everything is going great! No new breakouts, I do feel a little more red, fine with me. As long as I don't have crazy pimples everywhere.
Lips are definitely getting more dry, but not noticeably, aquaphor is amazing.
My face does feel a little tighter and dryer when I get out of the shower, but nothing really flaking or peeling. No noticeable dryness. I really really hope this doesn't get horrible on me by Saturday (2 more days).
Seems to be a miracle drug for me so far. Still no new breakouts. My skin is extremely clear, with the exception of my old pimples being a little more red. (I'm waiting for my damn emu oil to come in)
My face is just starting to get the teeniest bit dry, my nose mainly. Nothing a little moisturizer hasn't fixed. Still waiting for that initial breakout, which I thought would have happened already. Nope.
I guess I'll continue to update daily for now...
Still truckin'. Other than a slight headache, no side effects. My face is slightly starting to dry out, just keeping it moisturized to prevent anything crazy.
No new pimples, just the old ones turning a bit more red than usual. I seem to be more pale? Which makes me really want to hit the tanning bed, but I hear this is a big no no on accutane. Going to Florida next month, so nothing I can really do about that.
Hopefully I will have a nice clear face for my little vacation!
