Finally noticing some side affects -don't get me wrong, im not excited by them but at least it show that the stuff is working. I thought the easiest way of doing this is to rank each sympton on a scale of 1 - 10. 1 being - I can hardly notice and 10 being - OMG I can't take this shit anymore.
Dry eyes - 1 (use eye drops morning and night)
Dry lips - 3 (Paw paw cream is awesome)
Red face/irritated skin - 1 or 2
Headach/hangover feeling - 3
Thats pretty much it, although I've noticed in the morning my nose is all dried out inside - it sounds gross but it reminds me of those little kids that have dried snot on thier face cause it's been there all day haha. I'm doing well so far, it's still early days but I'm feeling pretty confident I can manage it all the way through. The first time was really hard, the second time was easier so I'm optimistic the third will be straight forward.
One thing I did want to talk about is being a male and the stigma around making your skin look better. All my mates are real manly sort of guys, and as they haven't had bad skin like me they wouldn't understand the reasons I'm going through all this effort to improve my skin...they would see it as vein or something a woman would do. i've kind of had to hide the fact that I use face wash and toner and all the other products over the years.
Since I've been taking the tane it's also be hard cause i've been putting on the lip balms too and it's not like its cold in Australia so dry lips in warm weather is kind of rare - it just looks like im wearing lip gloss.
Not sure if you other guys have had to do the same thing, or gone through similiar issues hiding certain things frm your mates
Week 1 has come and gone fairly uneventfully, I sort of wish I had something amazing to write but I don't so I'll just blab away - feel free to read on. I'm on 60mg per day now and my lips have started to get slightly drier and my skin seems to be a bit red. It's the end of summer here in Australia so it's still warm and I did notice that my face was really oilly looking the past couple of days as well (more than usual) ...anyone else notice that when they first start a course???
I went to a friends party the other night and I was planning to not drink but I got a little carried away and ended up pretty drunk. Had a big hangover the next day which I'm completely not suprised by, I just have to make sure I don't drink that much next time.
I mentioned in an earlier post that i'm using pawpaw oinment instead of lip palm, any of you guys tried this stuff? It seems to be working really well.
I've got a 3 week holiday starting next week, diving and then camping in the outback. I'm a bit worried as there will be limited facilities for washing my face and I'm sure i'll get pretty dirty. Fingers crossed that i get through it without any major breakouts.
Well until next week...
Ok, So I know I said I would update once a week but I thought I'd check in anyways. It's been 4 days and so far so good. 1 new spot on my cheek and other than that it's all god. No real dryness yet. I'm only taking 40mg for he first week so I wasn't really expecting too much to happen yet anyway.
Going to try the pawpaw Ointment for my lips this time round as I found most lip balms to be pretty average. I got nothing to lose, if it doesn't work I'll switch over to carmex or something else. Got the gentle face wash, body moisturiser, along with the eyedrops so now begins the waiting game I guess.
Has anyone else had 3 course of roaccutane/accutane? My derm said I'm pretty unlucky to have to have it 3 tmes as the repeat rate is like 3% after the 2nd course. Tried to find some good blogs for what to expect for the 3rd time e.g. dryness, breakouts etc whether it was going o be as bad as the other times.
next update in a few days I guess...i'll be up to 60mg by then - bring it on
Ok So this is the first day of my 3rd course (60mg) of the tane. I'm a 26 male and have had acne since I was about 12 and have never really been able to shake it.
The first course was when I was about 17 and it was terrible, my face exploded with pimples and deep cystic acne all over and was so dry I looked like the dude out of american chainsaw masacre (I don't mean to scare anyone, just trying to give my story). But the results were great and lasted about 2 years (worth it)
The second time was when I was 23 and the side effects were minor, my skin didn't really blow up and the dryness was bareable. The results only lasted about a year, but I think that was due to extreme stress and bad diet - I moved O/S for work.
Now it's my 3rd course and i'm a little nervous about what to expect - hopefully it will be even easier than the 2nd course...I doubt it.
The ironic thing is that I haven't even taken one tablet and my skin is actually looking good at the moment, it's like the acne knew what was coming and decieded to bugger off. Oh well, I have to do it cause I know it will be back.
I'll update once a week and on any major issues, if I miss something or have any questions feel free to comment.
