I hit the two week mark!
I am using Retin A in conjunction with the Obagi skincare system.
My skin is so smooth. I cannot believe it. I have had always had acne, at least for as long as I can remember. I always cried over pictures that showed me with clear, pretty skin. My face is in no way flawles after 2 weeks but the improvements are really showing. My friend told me that my cheeks, chin, and forehead were so clear. The Obagi system I beleive is really helping even out my complexion. Thank goodness. I think I could live with a few pimples if the awful marks left over were not there. The improvement is so drastic after so few time.
If you are currently taking retin a ....stick with it....I am still flacking but not nearly as much as before. I no longer look at Santa Claus. YAY!!!
I am still endorsing the LYPSYL Swedish lip moisturizer...my lips are amazing. They look and feel great. A guy actualy gave me a compliment on my lips last night. For the first time in two weeks they are not super dry. This lypsyl is magical. I am so happy.
There are some drawbacks of course. I have had two pimples pop up, but they disappear the next day and are, strangely, not leaving any marks behind. I am so surprised. i do not know if this is due to the dreaded IB or my cycle....which should be starting soon.
Whatever it is I can live with it, because I am happy with my skin. I am planning to post pictures in a gallery on Acne. org! I have taken several before pictures. I KNOW I will be taking may more pictures very soon!!!!
Take care all,
It is a PURE SWEDISH BEESWAX lip balm. BEST I HAVE EVER USED...I put some on last night after exfoliating my lips...they were super smooth when I woke up....
It is not greasy, but nourishing.
It is about 3 bucks, but worth it...much better than BURTS BEES, BLISTEX, or ANYTHING ELSE I HAVE TRIED...
TRY IT! You wont be disappointed.
I got it at Walgreens.
After a week and a half of no pimples, I now have a whitehead on my upper lip....okay this isnt severe but i am PISSSED...
two reasons why this sudden "buddy" popped up...
1. my period starts in three days
2. I am about to get an IB (YIKESSSSSS!!!!)
.... so depresssing or am I over thinking this pimple?
So... tomorrow is my one week anniversary with Retin -A. I know that I will not be able to post until Firday or Saturday of this week. My schedule is out of this world.
Since I began this journey, no new pimples have popped up. The pimples I did have are either gone, or disappearing. The only one that is really working my nerves is on the side of my face. I believe it is a pretty large blackhead. At least, that is what it looks like. That is the onlyactive pimple I have.
The burning has lessened its severity. The retin-A really does not bother me, now that I am exfoliating and applying cetaphil.
I read several posts on different sites about using moisturizer before or after the retin-a. From the posts it seems best to moisturize AFTER applying Retin-A (wait time: 15-20 minutes). I am going to ask my dermatologist this week for the final opinion. Some people do apply Retin-A in conjunction with the moisturizer. I believe this lessens the efficacy of the treatment by diluting the tretinoin.
BTW...if you visit my blog, leave a comment and your experience. I value feedback
Good luck to everyone kickin' ACNE tail....
Rocking it out on Retin-A....
So, I read some blogs and found that Cetaphil is a miracle moisturizer....
IT IS! On top of it (when it dries I apply my gloves in a bottle) and irritation is null and void.
I finally dont feel as though a fisherman scaled me and threw me back into the water
Today is the end of DAY 5! Whoo-HOO....
UPDATE: nothing new...
No new pimples, just irritated skin.
With this skin being so red, I am relaly avoiding social events. I am only going to the movies tonight, because it is DARK!!!!
For sun prtection I am using Neutrogena's HELIOPLEX 70. It has cut down on my sunburn.
I got a message from someone who follows my blog, and they asked if I was "of color" meaning ethnic.
YES!!!! I am sorry I did not mention that before. I am an African-America woman. If you are Af-Am and thinking of using this product, please do not be discouraged due to reports of burning skin and highly irritated skin. It is doing the trick so far. I have had a real sunburn(it was painful) before and Retin-A is nothing in comparison (TRUST ME) !
I was concerned about using retin-a (the redness and scarring that could potentially develop) on my skin tone. I am pretty pleased that retin-a has not left me scarred. I am using the Obagi system which is really great for ethnic skin (so I have heard). If you are a woman of color and are using retin-a, talk to your dermatologist about the obagi system. It is pricey but I have never read or heard a negative review.
I want to enjoy tonight...I mean it is Friday, and a friend is hosting a happy hour.....BUT how can I go out looking like this?
AHHHHH...I also wanted to go dancing tonight...guess not looking like Santa and Rudolph the red nos reindeer combined....
What shall a girl do?
I look like Santa...
I AM PEELING. Bottom line.
Due to the redness and peeling the past few days I can not tell if any progress is being made. Today is Day 5. I do not have any new pimples. Most of the pimples I did have flattened. One of the pimples I had prior to the treatment has popped up completely. It was a white head.
Overall, i am happy because no new pimples have appeared.
The Obagi system...
I just use the cleanser (Clenziderm) and the Clear product (bleaching for hyperpigmetation). Again, I cannot tell how well it is working because I am peeling and super RED!!!!
Is there anyone else on both Retin-A and Obagi? If so, how are your results?
In addition to Retin-A, and Obagi, I am also using the BenzaClin.
I am going to use this system with no modification for another 2 weeks. If the redness does nto dissapate, I am going to use the Retin-A every other night. On the night I do not use Retin-A, I am going to use the BenzaClin twice. Right now I am prescribed to use it twice, but I only use it in the moring because my face is irritated.
This morning I woke up, and face looked.....AMAZING! Okay, I know what you're thinking...that was only 3 days of treatment, how could there be a difference.
Here is the run-down...
1. I had no new pimples form....
2. Still no initial breakout (I am waiting, though)...
3. My pores were teeny-tiny....
4. My complexion was homogeneous.
5. I still had visible scarring, and old pimples healing, but there was a difference between Day 1 and the beginnin g of Day 4...
After waking up and seeinig my newly formed facial paradise...I applied my Obagi....
THE REDNESS RETURNED.... Then, I applied my Clindamyacin....THE BURNING A PEELING RETURNED....
So I was pretty pink and flacky all day. The burning is horrible. I feel so embarrased talking to the Starbucks gut who took my order because my face was beat red.
Everyone is asking me if I have been staying out in the sun too long....
As far a my moisturizer, I love Glowes In A Bottle. Many people have never heard of it...its like super secret in the dermatology world...doctors use it all the time....basically, it is not your normal moisturizer because it does not give your skin artificiaal moisture..but rather keeps your inner moisture WITHIN....I really do love it...but when I do not apply it my skin turn RED!
I also have CeTaPhIL, which I like but it leaves me feeling a little gross. I think I will stick to my Gloves in a Bottle.
For UVA/UVB protection I use Neutrogena's Helioplex in SPF 75. It is non-comodegenic (it wont clog your pores). My dermatologist also recommended it to me....
If you are about to start Retin-A or you are on it....JUST STAY OUT OF THE SUN....don't even sit too closely to a window because your skin will react. I never knew that my skin was this sensitive.
Until next time ,
So, I am a teacher and this is my second day using Retin-A, Clydamyacinn (sp.) and Obagi. My skin is soooooooo red and peeling. It is horrible. One of my students asked, super lod "Why is your face red and peeling?". It must have been horrible because I was near the fron of the class and he was ALL the way in the back of the room. I was thinking, "Oh, my God!"
There is no way I can handle the Inova pads in conjuction with the Retin-A Micro and Benzaclin. My face is extremely tight.
Pimple Update: I have no new pimples. Honestly, I dont see how I can have any pimples any more. I think all the oil in my body has been dried up by all of these medications. LOL
I am waiting for this Initial Breakout of pimples. The only IB I do have is an IB of redness and peeling. I look so scary. I feel like I had a chemical peel.
I would love to do the Retin-A Micro every other night, but I am afraid that it might interfere with the products working.
Hopefully, in a few weeks the peeling will subside and I will be somewhat normal again.
I still love the Obagi cleanser and clear cream .
Until next time....
Technically, I started some of the treatment yesterday, like the Obagi....
I love the Obagi already.... I have TRIED almost every cleanser know to man.... expensive and cheap....this system's cleanser is like whoa....you feel likee each pore has been scrubbed inside out. It is suprsingly very gentle....
The Obagi bleachng cream is okay so far...i have only used it one day...so no results of course.
I used the Retin-A tonight in conjunction with the Benzaclin 30 minutes earlier. It is really irritating. I have the Retin-A Micro .04% strength. I am beat red.
I do like the BenzaClin. It leaves a white film on my face (guess it's the BP) but....hey I like it.
I guess we all like that feeling of somthing working.
I cannot wait to start seeming some formal results. I giess eventually I will have that initial breakout. I am waiting for it. Though, i have heard that ssome people do not get it. I hopw I am one of those people
My morning routine will consist of washing with the Obagi cleanser, towel blotting water gently, applying the BenzaClin...waiting 20 minutes...apllying the Obagi Clear treatment.... waiting sometime and them applying my sunscreen and makeup.
Seems like I will have to startg my mornings a bit earlier than usual....anything for beautiful clear skin.
One of my upcoming entries will deal exclusively with by battle with low-selfesteem and suicide. I really want this message board tp help as many people as possible, If my experience can help you in a tough predicament then ....I am grateful...
'till next time acne.org-ers...
Hello Acne.Org Members:
My first experience to the dermatologist was quite nerve racking. I went in with a lot of expectations for oral anti-biotics or Accutane. I received neither. My acne was not severe enough to be placed on any oral treatments. Therefore, I received a multitude of products.
1. Retin-A Micro
3. Obagi Cleanser (love it already)
4. Obagi Clear (hydroquinone 4%)
5. Inova Pads
I have a lot of discoloration from previous acne lesions and it really causes my low self-esteem to be on overload. The doctor and aesthetician (sp.) said that it worked wonders so I am going to try it. The Obagi system cost me $119....whew....but I had heard about the products before and thought they were fantastic.
The doctor looked at my face closely. He counted the amount of pimples or comedones, and logged them. He talked to me about the improvements I wanted, and any other treatments I had been on. He did not do a full body overview (whew). I have no acne on my back or chest. Occasionally,I will get a pimple there, but it is very rare.
He wrote the prescription and that was it. I do know that you can buy the Obagi products much cheaper online (CANADA)....so if they work that is where I will buy them from now on....
I have another dermatology appointment in four months, only sooner if something goes awry.
It did not seem that they though my scne was that severe (sad face) because I really wanted Accutane. They were more concerned with my hyperpigmentation.
Overall, I enjoyed the experience and I feel that I am in good hands....
Watch out world....
I will post my progress either everyday, or every other day.
I got all of my prescriptions today, so we will see how it goes.
