So I haven't updated since April 20th, two months ago, but I'm on what is scheduled to be my last month on Accutane-July being the "still in the system month". My skin is so soft and my back is completely clear along with my forehead and chin. My right cheek has one zit that is healing, while my stubborn left cheek still needs the three weeks left on the pill.
Overall, the side effects have been minimal-dryness especially on my lips has been an issue, quite annoying and embarrassing sometimes, but I used alot of vaseline and aquaphor so that helped. I only had about 4 nosebleeds, and only one in public so that wasn;t too bad haha.
My self confidence has shot up alot and people have noticed. I get compliments that my skin is better and that made this 5 months worth it. I recommend doing it in the winter months because worrying about sun exposure is annoying. I was just at the beach and heard constant nagging from my mom about suncreen..so try doing an october-march regimen if you can..wish I had!
But yea..I had alot of apprehensions about taking the Tane, but it has and continues to change my life. I highly recommend it.
*I did drink on my regimen..probably a little too much, and it did have negative effects on my skin, which is why I may need to continue for another month, so yes you can drink..but don't do it excessively.*
So I'm two weeks away from being on the Tane for 4 months! I can't believe how fast the time has gone! So I went home over Easter break and my mom said my skin is a 75% improvement! I'm really excited with the results so far..I guess since I see my skin everyday I'm a little critical.
Well my forehead is clear minus one little zit that's going away now. My left cheek is a little pimply, but they're getting better too. It's just annoying cause I want clear skin so badly, and I know it's going to happen I'm just impatient. My right cheek is better than the left, with only one zit right now, and reduced redness and drying.
I started using Aquaphor on my lips and the cracked sides and its a miracle! They have gotten better ever since I started using it, and I'm so happy they're not a ugly as before.
My back and shoulders are remarkably better-I cannot fathom they would be this much clearer by month 4. Its like just old red marks from acne of the past.
I guess I never really knew the scope of my acne-I mean don;t get me wrong I'm still really self-conscious and all but now that my skin is clearing up I see how bad it used to be, and I know now Accutane was the right choice..I sound like a commercial haha..
The sun has been an issue..but spray Aveeno sunscreen has been working for my body and for my face I use Cetaphil UVB/UVA 50. I try to avoid prolonged exposure because I'm pale to begin with and the Tane ain't too kind with sun.
I don't know..sometimes I hope my derm will say I won't need the whole 6 month cycle..but I really want this $hit gone so I'm willing. Nothing like starting Junior year with clear skin, eh?
So I got bumped up to 2 30mg pills of claravis a day-so 60mg for you math-challenged per day. Basically my lips are ALWAYS dry and cracking, and recently the sides of mouth are cracked and awful looking..I get nosebleeds almost every day, not like gushing ones but blood comes out.
My skin is really soft, especially after I wash it with Cetaphil Gentle Cleaner, both on my face and back (back with the bar though) And especially on my back scrubbing helps alot. My back is improving.
Since I've had the higher dosage I had an initial breakout and I continue to get more zits but that's to be expected, since that's what Accutane does..I don;t know, I'm just getting sick of having acne and I cannot wait for the 6 months to be up!
I'm posting pictures now of almost 2 months..so check them out if you want.
I can't believe one month has gone by already, it seems like it flew. I've only had a few sips of alcohol and I really only miss beer alot haha.
So my lips are dry alot and crusty, but I use vaseline on them and that seems to be the only thing that works the fastest and longest. My skin is a little dry, but nothing terrible.
I'm going up to two 30mg pills per day, so that may increase the drying, but hey I want to kick this thing!
So my skin is soo much softer and easier to moisturize than even a month ago, it's visually less red and inflamed. I've been told by so many people my skin has improved ALOT, and that really makes me believe my days with acne are going to end.
So I'm having a bit of a break out on my left cheek right now, but I am on my period, and hey the zits have to come out right? I'm just really happy with my results after only one month and I can't even imagine what it will be like after two!
Check out my album and see my progress.
Soo haven't posted in a while, but alot has been happening! I've been getting so many compliments about how good my skin is looking, and how much less red it is! I'm on Day 24, and I'm seeing really good results. My forehead has been clear for a week and really smooth, my right cheek has no zits and is really smooth, my left cheek has about 4 zits on it but they're going away too. I am really pleased with my results, and know its just going to keep getting better. My back is also clearing up too, and am seeing my old zits going away. I still see some zits forming though.
My friends say they see a difference even from yesterday to today, and I'm psyched!
I am feeling alot of body pain though, especially in my lower back..but I can get over that
My lips and eyes are also dry..so it looks like I'm high all the time haha. oh well.
I haven't drank in almost a month and honestly I don't miss it that much.
I'm going to post photos to show my results so far.
Halfway to the month mark-AHH! I can't believe I'm going to be on this for a month on March 8th..it's crazy to think about, and really exciting.
So I woke up today with really dry lips, even though I coated them with Aquaphor last night..They continually got dryer as the day wore on and I kept licking them which made it worse...
Also, on a super awesome fun note, I had my first NOSEBLEED! Wooot. I was walking across campus and came across my friend and I saw blood on my earphones nad I'm like, "Is my nose bleeding?" And she says, yep. Well SHAT! So I ran into the SUB and got tissues..luckily not too many people were paying attention..but still terrible. I was paranoid I was going to get another one ALL day and kept checking my nose like a weirdo.
But anywho, woke up again with no whiteheads, but I do have a red pimple brewing on my right cheek, hurts to the touch but who knows if it will dissapear or turn into a whitehead.
My skin is also dry and my hands are showing it, along with my eyes-still need to get those eye drops..
It's sad to think about, but some of my friends are pulling away and vise versa because I can't drink anymore..it realllyy sucks and I don't want that to happen..but I also hate being around drunk people when I'm sober..double edged sword..anyone feeling/experiencing this with their own lives? Any advice is welcome and appreciated.
Soo I woke up again with no whiteheads and minimal dryness, except my lips which are dry, I just keep forgetting to put on the Aquaphor before bed..woops. Also my hair is noticably less greasy, like I didn't shower yesterday and you can't even tell, woot!
So onto my skin-My right cheek is reallly smooth and almost clear, except a little redness. I had an IB on my right cheek about day 7 or 8, but it cleared up really quickly. That's also something I'm noticing, all my old zit/red marks are gone within a few days..like on my forehead and cheeks, they're gone! When before it would take FOREVER! I'm really happy with my progress so far, and cannot wait for some real major results!
My left cheek is having a breakout, but that is also healing, like the pimples don't hurt anymore and none of them are becoming whiteheads..I don't know. Is this normal to have this ok looking skin at Day 14?
So I missed a few days, but really I have been waking up with little to no whiteheads, and usually they are on my chin cause I touched it alot. I have some pimples on my left week and redness, but my right cheek is almost clear..I had an initial breakout there last week but nothing really since. Also my left cheek had the initial breakout with painful actives and all but thats clearing up as well..I don't know. My skin is soo smooth too, its really weird. But I know I have a loong way to go.
I am noticing my lips are ALOT dryer and my eyes are hurt cause I need to go buy eye drops like ASAP haha too lazy. My skin is way less oily too, especially at night when I washed my face last night it wasn't even oily or gross..very weird experience.
I'm thinking when I go up to 60mg I'm gonna have the IB again..I think being at 30mg is just like a pre-game for the 60mg. IDK. hopefully it'll start trucking along..I'm waiting!!
Missed a day-woops. Well I woke up today with three plus whiteheads on my left cheek, and one on my forehead. I almost saw them lurking beneath the surface last night and foresaw their arrival this morning. So I had to pop them in order to look somewhat presentable for lunch w. my friends..I know thats bad, but I really can't let myself leave like that..how else am I supposed to handle it?
I'm taking my 7th pill tonight, and I really haven't experienced tremendous drying yet, which is good I guess. I'm only on 30mg cause of my weight and condition, but I'm going up to 30mg twice a day my next visit I think, so that should help speed things up.
I can't wait to have clear skin..I'm realizing now how much it inhibits my life..like I don't feel comfortable in pictures or talkign close to people or walking around in a tank-top..GAH. Oh well I know the end is coming..just wish it would hurry.
So I woke up today with only one whitehead and my face was actually less red-I think it was because I scrubbed my face with the Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser like some people said we should do-against our derm's wishes of course!
Well the dryness is definitely starting to kick in-my lips are getting chapped and dry, but I'm using the aquaphor to combat that.
My face is alot dryer than usual too, so I'm going to have to start moisturizing at night. I was self-conscious at class today cause I thought everyone was looking at my dry skin..but it wasn;t terrible so I was just being paranoid.
I got like 3 1/2 hours of sleep last night..I seriously didn't fall asleep until 5 ish. It was terrible, and I couldn't do anything to combat it. Oiy nerves suck!
Anywho, this day marks a milestone-I'm not going out with my friends to drink, quite a sad day indeed..oh well maybe I'll do homework..probs not.
So I woke up today with three new whiteheads-progress I suppose. Also, my face was redder than usual. I can def see a change, and the Accutane working. Haven't really experienced the dryness yet, except my lips they are dryer than usual.
Will post pictures tomorrow of what I woke up to.
Keep forgetting to bring the pill to dinner..must remember!
So I woke up this morning..not feeling like p-diddy, sadly. But my skin was less "nice" as other people have put it. I had a new whitehead, which I haven't had in about 3 weeks. I also was breaking out a little on my chin, and have some bumps on my forehead that are new. So I'm quessing that's the Accutane working.
I took the pill at dinner again, and I feel fine, besides the usual tiredness following an epic snow day, woot!
I am a little upset today about not being able to drink..its like every show/movie I watch they're drinking beer-sad, sad thing.
Soo..I do see some changes-like the initial breakout everyone talks about, but I'm glad it will all be over in a couple months. I'm excited!
Also, James Blunt rules-don't care if you disagree.
So I took the pill last night at dinner..as my friend looked on sadly because I'm no longer her party partner..
But anywho, I felt fine all night after I took the pill and had my usual restless night of sleep.
But I woke up this morning feeling beyond crappy, and I thought I had to puke even before I left for my classes. Needless to say I had two tests I wasn't nearly ready for, but I wonder is it the Accutane or just me? Or perhaps both. Have any of you had this occur during your early treatment?
Also, I woke up this morning with no new zits-which has been the regular occurence for about 3 weeks now..I almost think my birth control is finally working. Also, I haven't been on my Differin, Minocycline, or Benzoyl Peroxide for a week so you would think I would break out?But nope. I haven't..
My skin is soooo soft too..I don't know if it's the Gentle Cleanser Cetaphil I've been using or what. My friends say I don't even need the Accutane, but I know it will be a great result in the end. Plus, they can't see the acne on my back or shoulders.
I will post more pictures by the end of the week when there's more of a change.
Welcome to my blog! I have been struggling with acne since I was about 14, and I'm 20 years old now, sophomore in college. I became fed up with not having satisfactory results, as my derm put it, "You have OK results, but not good results." I have been told great things about Accutane, and have seen life changing results in my brother, and many friends. So it begins my 6 months treatment on Claravis 30mg for the first two months I believe, then moving onto 30mg twice a day.
I'm a little nervous about the dryness, but I've prepared with Vaseline and aquaphor and all that. So we'll see how it goes! I am a little upset about the sobriety thing, as I am in college, but trust me I understand not having another break out is completey worth it!
I will post pictures as my treatment goes on, and hopefully see great results in a few months!
Thanks for reading, and any advice is welcome!
