My Path to Clear Skin

Day 95

Saw the Doc last week. She decided that i should go higher so up i went. Not particularly happy about being bumped up to now 80mg.. started at 40... I do recall her telling me that usually a patient doesn't go higher in mg than they weigh in kg. Well atleast i have a certain flare to me. Who cares if my acne is bad if i can be a special case anyways right? haha. Anywho, as expected, but much more severe this time around, serious dryness. Now on the forehead aswell when before it was focused around the chin and jawline. Ran out of lotion a few days ago but snagged a full supply again today. Applying lotion is definitely a daily routine. Usually around 4-5 times a day. This makes me think back to when i used to not use lotion when my skin was dry because i was afraid it made my skin worse, now i can't even express in words how thankful i am for it. On another note, one of my friends (the same one who recommended Blistex DCT which is working awesome by the way!) has been on 40mg his whole treatment. This guy is atleast 5 inches taller than me and weighs 20-30lbs more. I don't really recall his skin before his treatment, but his mom (a nurse i believe) says that a low dosage can be just as effective as a higher one, and this kid swears by it. I would say his face is looking 100% clear. I think he is closing off his sixth month in a few more weeks. Can't wait to be where he is at and i hope i get the same results. As it is finally hitting me, acutane hasn't been too terribly bad. It's the worst right after you get on it, or get bumped up a dosage, however apart from that it's just kind of a daily routine. So long as you don't pick too much (or not at all as the docter suggests.. but like that is gonna happen) and you remember to apply lotion and chapstick whenever you get the faintest dry-feeling, it isn't too life-changing. Sure muscle aches and all that jazz come with it, but nothing too extreme. I think the worst part is the werid looks i get when i squeeze my lotion out of a little tube and apply it liberally all over my body after showering in the locker room haha. Anywho apart from being bumped up again not too much has changed. I feel like im getting less breakouts a week but that could just be a mental thing. I have been in a great mood all the time lately and you know that they say before you can look good you must feel good. So for everyone out there also on this journey, chin up! 6 months is only 1/144 of the average persons life and it's all for the best!

Day 84

It's been a while since i have posted an entry, been pretty busy lately. But thanks to springs break, i have some time off and my face is looking more or less okay. It's not outbreak free however i have been in the sun alot which is most likely damaging it. Nose-bleeds are less and less frequent due to the warmer more humid weather i imagine. Chapped lips are still quite persistant and my face is still usually dry however i think that will begin to fade as the summer season approaches.

Day 60

Month two down! So saw my derm the other day. Had major swelling and painful outbreaks around my mouth. Wasn't too excited to see her because i figured she would just bump me up to a higher dosage due to my obvious lack of results. Turns out all the stuff on my face was infected. Recently i had been picking at them alot and dirt/whatever from my fingers had infected them and made the swell. She prescribed 10 days of antibiotic pills along with a topical paste that i was to rub over my face. This was on thursday (today being sunday) and she told me my face should look 50% better by monday. I left in a bad mood, skeptical, and generally upset. So these past couple of days i haven't laid a finger on my face with the intention of picking just to see if the doctor knew what she was talking about. Alas after not picking and applying the paste along with taking the antibiotics (along with my regular 60mg dosage of tane) for just a time span of 4 days so far, my face does appear alot better. On a side note, i had been using blistex medicated lip ointment for the past few weeks which seemed to work surprisingly well compared to other products i have tried. My friend who is also on accutane but much farther along than myself, has been recommending Blistex DCT (daily conditioning treatment). He has been making it sound like a godsend so i have been trying to get my hands on it. I ordered some on Amazon and it came in the mail yesterday. Have only applied it three or four times so far but i will definitely let everyone know how well it helps in my next entry.

Day 49

So face is still pretty dry. Lips still pretty chapped. Skin seems a little less-irritated. Most likely just getting over the breakout from the higher-dosage. Cold weather is coming back recently which isn't helping all the other issues. The soreness in my back that i used to get when bending over had gone away a few weeks ago but it's gradually coming back. Didn't have anything major to report but i was bored and thought i mine as well do another entry.

Day 40

Three days ago i had mild skin. Waking up today and looking in the mirror makes me want to cry. The higher dosage definitely had a negative re-action and my skin is not taking it well. I know it's only for the best and in a few weeks it will get better but whilst already being affected by a fever the last thing i need is a zit covered face.

Day 39

So after being pumped up to 60mg i thought of it as no big deal. My face is now red, irritated, and breaking out with insanely chapped lips. Since i was lucky enough to never have an initial breakout on the 40mg i went into this new dosage with confidence. I definitely got hit hard though. My derm said that after two weeks i should begin to see improvements so hopefully soon. I don't particularly enjoy being bumped up to a higher dosage, but if it's necessary, everyone on here knows what lengths i will go to for clear skin.

Day 32

First month done! Not really a milestone i suppose, but felt important. Dermatologist told me that results aren't usually seen at this stage yet but that nothing seems out of the ordinary with my skin. She bumped me from 40mg to 60mg. Told me that i should see a flare up in the next two weeks due to the higher dosage but that after that i should start to see noticeable results. So the only annoying thing is the lips still. I mean i thought i knew chapped lips before this medication but it really is quite awful. The dry face arms and legs aren't too bad. I have this lotion that i use daily to keep all that under control but if i miss putting on chapstick before sleep i wake up with lips so dry i peel them both off and go the day with raw ones. I have had the ocassional nosebleed but nothing major. Small breakout on my forehead but what really bugs me is after popping them, they scabbed over and look real horrible and are healing slowly. scalp is slightly dry but my hair has always been dry so thats nothing new. Now the thing that really is getting on my nerves... Doesn't 'really' relate to the medicine but rather the packaging. Okay so all of you that are on accutane know about the terrible double-reinforced single pill catridge that you have to claw and tear your way through every morning to get your one pill right? Well turns out these pills don't come in 60mg. So instead i got the same packaging.. but with 20mg pills. So now i have to do three every morning and believe me when i say my thumbs are raw from trying to get these things out haha. Thats all i have for you guys thanks for reading ill update in a few weeks!

Day 115

Face is clearish, going to see the derm in 4 days or so. The clear face was nice with prom being last night but it still isn't where i want it to be. Dryness is subsiding again. I feel like she may bump me up even more, but i`m not sure if 100mg is even a legal dosage haha. Anyways still largely better than it was when i started accutane. 2 Months left to go and i hope i can be flawless by then! I plan on figuring out how to post before and after pictures at the end of my treatment so i can show you guys my progress. As always, thanks for reading and feel free to comment
