Well, Hello

Last time I wrote about acne was June 2011, and the fact that I haven't been back since is actually quite good! I've been using Exposed Skin Care since June and it is by far the best non-prescription product I have ever used. Really, for the last 10 months I haven't had to worry about my face very much, which is just what I've always wanted. My scars still bother me, but they seem to be fading little by little and they look more like freckles than memories of painful acne and embarrassment. Despite all of this, for some reason this week I've had a very terrible break out in this weird concentrated patch on my lower left cheek. I'm positive it's because I'm out of my Exposed and scraping by with some random spot treatments, so hopefully it will soon die down and not be a raging red mess. Today I've been putting a solution of epsom salt and hot water on the break out and it's actually already reduced in size within 2 hours. I thought of this because every time I swim in an ocean my skin improves drastically, and so I looked up whether or not salt water is know to improve acne, and it is! Sweet

Exposed Skin Care

It looks like I'm going to be venturing out on another acne limb, and trying yet another new product called Exposed Skin Care. It has fantastic reviews, and I've dug pretty deep to make sure it's not just like Proactiv where they use actors and the same testimonials for long periods of time. It really does seem effective, and it's on pretty much every top 10 list for acne products out there (usually it's even number 1!). I'm hoping now that since my acne isn't quite as severe anymore, this product will do the trick and smooth things out. I just want skin that I don't have to cover up, for once in my life. I've had acne since I was 8! That's 8 years of pain, redness, low self-esteem, a mountain range on my face, two rounds of accutane, and an impressively long list of dumb hyped up products that do NOT WORK. Might as well take another risk, I've already seen the worst....

I'm back...

I was seriously hoping I wouldn't have to continue this blog, because I though my "acne journey" was over, but no, here I am... My acne is very different from the way it used to be, much smaller and not as painful, which I'm thankful for. However, for being on accutane twice I am not pleased at all. I have tiny under the skin acne that seems to cover every inch of my forehead, and then redder surfaced zits on my cheeks and chin. Pisser. I'm contemplating a few newish products, because I don't think it's serious enough to go back to the derm right now. Here are my options (I found both on several top ten lists): Clear Skin Max or Exposed Skincare. What do you guys think? Have you had any experience with either of these? Your comments/help is mucho appreciated! Thanks!

The End (for now)

WHoah I can't believe how long it's been since I've entered anything! Well hello! Basically I've been trucking along with accutane. I'm on the fourth month (unexpected but I'm glad) and for real the last one this time! Only about 15 pills to go I'm quite pleased with the amount of clearness I'm seeing, especially lately. All I have left now is hyper-pigmentation which over time will hopefully fade. I am happy and at least for now am closing the acne chapter of my life. Best of luck to all of you! Peace Out, Bocoleela

3rd and Final Round...knockout?

Hello all you shining stars! I am about to begin my 3rd and last round on accutane. I hope greatly that it's the last one ever! Whilst I was in Mexico last week my face was I kid you not, completely clear. It was insane!! I was so happy and then as soon as I came home my face broke out a little and I was like damn, give me a break face gods! Now my face is still a little bumpy but better than before because yesterday my derm extracted some schnozzle. I suppose I'm at a point now where I'm getting a bit impatient and I just want it to be CLLLEAR! We'll see though, hopefully that comes soon =)

B-b-b-breakout!

Greetings Earthlings, SO my face was doing quite well a couple days ago.... but now it is a minefield! Everything is so bumpy! It's weird and obnoxious. The most frustrating part is I can't do anything! I can't put any healy stuff on it because that will mess with the accutane and do more damage. So I just have to wait out this break out old school. And I'm sure it will take quite a while, for accutane makes healing slower. Insert squeals of joy. woo. Where's my acne crack when I need it? (this being benzoyl peroxide)

Buenos Dias!

why hello there! I believe I've taken about 5 pills from my second prescription. This time since it's 30 mg the pills are orange, which is MUCH more enticing to me! Not that this information is relevant in any way at all... The face. Oh the face. My cheeks are smoothing out quite nicely, all that's left there is that stubborn hyper-pigmentation dawdle-dee. BUT the doc said as soon as I'm done with accutane they will do something to heal that schnozzle right up. That's quite exciting =) Now, on the other hand, along the edge/sides of my face there are some noticeable bumps. They're fairly painful and it's really hard to not pick at them. I'm trying. Discipline child, discipline! My forehead is also slightly bumpy, I think things are still purging up there. That's how it feels to me because most of the bumps aren't surfacing yet. Well I suppose that tis all I have to say at the moment. Hope all of you are having a delightfully smashing summer!

Approaching Month Two

So sorry that I haven't entered in a while! I suppose I've just been so busy with summer.... I would say my bout with accutane is going much better than last time. The only thing I've noticed is dryness and as long as I put on lotion in the morning/night and always have chapstick I'm good to go. I've also been drinking an insane amount of water so I suppose that's helpful. But seriously, I have to pee nearly every 5 minutes. I actually was at my lovely dermatologist's today to get my second prescription, and it was a nice reminder that everything is going so freakin well. She did a few extractions which made my face look immediately better. She explained that although accutane works wonders, it can slow the healing process in other ways, which explains the hyper-pigmentation I'm experiencing. In some places on my face it appears as though there's still some zit-age but it's miraculously smooth. That would be hyper-pigmentation, the result of slow healing. Golly I learn so much stuff from having this crap! I just know that I'm happy that results are coming so quickly =) Restores my self confidence in wonders! So really that's about it, I'm feeling pretty great about it right now. I'm up to 30 mg a day now, which will hopefully speed it up even more. Stay tuned! P.S. thinking about getting bare minerals/bare esentuals after all of this is said and done. It's highly acclaimed and it's supposed to actually improve the skin after use. SO yeah tell me if it's been wondrous for you or if all those reviews are malarchy

Day 25

I've taken approximately 25 clevaris pills. I think everything is going fairly well apart from the dryness. Also I was a bit worried because for a while my lower back really was bothering me and I know that can be an affect from the accutane. I'm definitely going to ask the doc about that, but I think if it was something to do with my kidneys it would show up in the blood work. Anyway I think it's going relatively well, my face is getting a bit smoother as each day goes on. There still some healing monsters, but we can't have it all happen at once!

Craters

Hello again! My face hasn't really been bothering me self confidence wise lately which is a miracle, but man it hurts! On the sides of my face and STILL on my bottom lip I have these huge red pimples. Let me tell you, they are PAINFUL. Ouchie wa wa! That's about it though. Luckily they seem to be slightly improving each night. ok well this has been short and sweet! More later =)

Second Week

We are approaching the midway of week 2 on accutane! My face is of course breaking out terribly, but hey that's expected. My face is basically just a mine-field of bumps covering pretty much every single cm of my face. It's ever so lovely, having a completely textured face. Anyway I think like most successful medications, the accutane is purging my face which of course must happen in order for anything to heal in the first place. Also lots of people tell me the first month of accutane is the worst face wise. So yeah, I don't mind too much. EXCEPT for this HUGE pisser right on the corner of my bottom lip. Yes this particular blemish is extraordinarily painful because every time I eat, put on chapstick*, rub my lips together, talk, or even think about my lips it hurts like crazy! Ugh I hate these type of terrors. EEEEK! So I put an asterisk next to chapstick because it reminded me that oh yes the accutane is completely beginning to dry the heck out of me. I seriously put an unheard amount of chapstick on and literally about say, 60 seconds later I have to reapply. It's craziness. Also if I take a shower or am in any moisture of any amount of time I instantly have to apply lotion. Lather lather lather. It's INSANE. I'm beginning to remember how dry life becomes whence on this pill. Ha. Does anyone else find it immensely amusing that on the back of EVERY single pill there's a huge pregnant lady with a cross through it? I think that's hilarious. It is freaky how much damage this stuff can do to a baby, but mostly I find it comical because I'm 14 so I pretty much know I don't have to worry about pregnancy. Speaking of freakiness, the other day I made the mistake of reading about all the side-affects of accutane and it kinda shook me up. The list of what it can do to you here on acne.org completely freaked me out. I do sincerely hope nothing weird and awful happens to me beyond dryness. Sccccary!

Day...4

Hello there world! I've taken approximately 4 clevaris pills so far and I don't notice very much. Not that I expected to this soon but you know. My lips are a little bit dry and my face a little oily but I don't know if that has to do with the accutane or just because. So this has been a boring entry but oh well!

Away we go...

Did you know that June is national acne awareness month? Yeah neither did I until I was contently watching an epiduo commercial this morning. And then it occurred to me that oh, I no longer am on epiduo because oh, yesterday I just swallowed my first pill of accutane! In a way I sort of felt like a drug addict when I got my hands on my prescription. It was so exhilarating to realize I was finally starting the one thing that's ever truly worked. So now it begins again. I made a point to buy about 5 chapsticks (nivea and aquafina) because last time my lips felt like hell whilst on accutane. I also am making sure to guzzle water like a maniac because it's summer and that little brown pill will make sure to suck out any moisture I have. Obviously I have nothing to report yet because I've only been on it for 2 days, but I'll be sure to track everything that happens. Sayonara for now!

3 1/2 weeks left

So, on the 24th I'm off to the dermatologist for my second pregnancy test, and then I shall get my prescription filled for accutane! aye aye how I am excited! Right now I'm still using epiduo and occasionally a benzoyl peroxide wash. My face is actually quite tame in most areas right now, but I know it's just a matter of time before it flares up again. And that, my friend, is where accutane comes into play!!

Makeup?

I can't believe I've never asked about makeup until now, but here goes. All the girlies out there (or boys who like to wear makeup), what kind of makeup works fairly well to cover up acne? Well who am I kidding, you can't cover it up but you know, make it look less beastly. Right now I just use some powder because liquid foundation (when I use it) seems to just melt off and end up looking er, more unattractive than before. So yes please comment and let meh know what you use. Thanks!

Counting down to Accutane...again

It's almost summer and it looks like along with the beauty of no school and sunshine, I'm going back on accutane for the second time. In a way I feel kind of elated because accutane is the only thing I've ever used that actually worked and gave satisfaction. I mean there's this point of rock bottom where you just want to get over this stupid battle. Acne should just be a minuscule bump in my teenage life, not something I think about and dwell on everyday. So yes I'm excited for accutane, I'm ready to be confident. My dermatologist has me still using epiduo for the time being, because I'm not going on accutane until the first week of June, you know blood and pregnancy tests have to be done first. I'm going on a really low dose for only 3 months which I'm really excited about, hopefully this time around won't be quite as brutal. I'm interested to see if I have the same side affects, and also I'm glad I know what to expect. My doc said to up the water everyday and of course LOTION and chapstick are freakin life savers when it comes to accutane. I look forward to going on accutane again and chronicling my 2nd journey. I'll see you there.

back to accutane?

well here we are. that's not very far. have you ever just had a day where you look in the mirror and you're like wow, I'm fing ugly today? that's how I feel today, and really all this week. Why you ask? BECAUSE OF ACNE! I'm so done right now. Soooo very done. Epiduo is no longer working and I'm having a major break out and I'm extremely frustrated so I will now venture back to the dermatologist and go back almost positively go back on accutane. yay. I don't really know what else to say other than how much I'm done with this. Piss on acne. =(

Back we go....again

Well. It's almost week 6 on murad and...I'm disappointed. I've got new break outs and I'm just done with this. I've given it enough time to work and it hasn't, so back to the dermatologist AGAIN. oye! I hope they give me answers...and something that works, before I have to go onto accutane again. man...I wish I could just get over this acne stuff and move on with life. =(

on week 4

So, we are nearing the end of week 4 on murad. I have to say, the results are neither extraordinary nor terribly terrible. I feel as though my skin is definitely healing, but it doesn't appear so yet. When I touch it it feels much smoother and soft, but that's because I'm an acne expert and I'm in tune to every little change! ha...I'm sure you all know what I mean. So I'm going to continue the use, which is more than I can say I've done for anything else. I'm feeling patient which in the acne world just might translate to hope Bocoleela P.S. I'm starting to drink aloe vera juice, have any of you seen that help acne before? just wondering

1 week and a day of Murad

so it's been a week and a day since I started using Murad. So far i haven't seen anything amazing, but my skin feels a little tighter. The problem is that I have all these new blemishes that are big and red and PAINFUL. Usually I only get one or two of these nasty buggars, but I have about five. It hurts and looks awful. I'm gonna be patient though, because the product instructions say that week 2 and 3 are the weeks of skin purging. I'm pretty nervous because all the reviews I've read say this is the worst part and that the breakouts are monumentally awful. Great. I've also noticed that my skin is sort of itchy after I first use it. Also the 2nd step tends to burn. How promising. The one good thing I notice is that the cleanser feels really good. That's about it though. I hoping this works and by the 4th week everything is clearer. I'm sick of this and getting to the point of hopelessness if this doesn't work. I guess it doesn't work it's just back to the dermatologist again to try millions of different products that don't work. And then it'll probably be back to accutane. Oye. Why does my skin have to be one ongoing science experiment? And why are the results hardly ever satisfying?
