I had a breakout whilst taking the Yaz contraceptive pill so I tried taking a 25mg Zinc tablet per day alongside it to control acne.

My acne and scarring was getting worse in the six month of taking Yaz, so I stopped taking it but continued with Zinc. At first I didn't get much results but over the past month my skin has cleared dramatically. Stubborn 6 month old white heads on my cheeks have finally disappeared and I don't get new breakouts. If I do get a pimple, it is smaller and will disappear in a day or two.

I am pleased with how many of my white heads have disappeared. I only have about 4 or 5 left. The redness has also calmed down so I have to wear less make up.

I don't get any tummy aches or nausea that others seem to get.

Not sure if this was a result of me going off Yaz or whether it's the zinc but something's working!

Pros

  • Inexpensive
  • Possibly clearer skin (could just be a timing issue)

Cons

  • Hard to measure whether clearer skin is a result of zinc or not.
  • moderate
  • for about a month
  • $ 7
  • I recommend using this treatment.

When I was using this, I had severe acne. It did not do anything in the one month I used this. I think some of these holistic medications are overrated.

Pros

  • Not expensive. Must be good for other things but acne.

Cons

  • Did not do anything for my acne.
  • severe
  • for about a month
  • $ 10
  • I do not recommend using this treatment.

My acne used to be severe. I've been on Accutane twice, as well as birth control, and now it's not severe anymore. However, my skin is still finicky. I know now that for me, it's at least partially linked to diet. The only acne treatments that have EVER worked for me have been internal - Accutane, birth control, dietary changes. Topical stuff does squat for me.

Which is why zinc intrigued me. I had a flare up last weekend (stupid dairy), and after reading reviews of zinc on here, I decided to try it.

The spots from the flare up - both of which were inflamed - shrank to scabs overnight. The scabs have pretty much flaked off since, and I haven't had any more breakouts. My complexion looks clearer, brighter and prettier, and I'm honestly shocked that it worked this well. I didn't have bad acne post-Accutane, but the small bumps I was getting were fairly persistent. Not this past week.

It did give me some nausea, even with food. I bought 50mg pills of Nature's Bounty chelated zinc. It wasn't MISERABLE nausea, but after a few days of an achy stomach for about an hour after taking it, I decided to split the pills in half and take 25g in the morning and 25g at night. Problem solved.

I'm really excited that I found this. Thank you to everyone who's written a helpful review. I was really scared to get off Accutane, and I'm glad to know there's something safe, affordable and natural I can keep taking to maintain my pretty results :) All I can say is give this a shot. My expectations were exceeded.

Pros

  • Clearer skin!
  • A natural remedy

Cons

  • Nausea
  • light
  • for about a week
  • $ 7
  • I recommend using this treatment.

Disappointed.. people on here said they had 50% clear skin by the second week, I reaaaallllyyyy wanted this to work for me too and I heard it helped balance your hormones, which I'm almost sure is the cause of my acne since I'm 13. But it has been almost 2 weeks of taking 50mg a day and I've seen no noticeable improvement, if anything I've been breaking out more.. I really wanted my skin to be clear for the end of the year and I was positive this was gonna get me there, I guess I might try fish oil now.

Pros

  • No stomatch aches

Cons

  • No improvement
  • Decreases copper absorbtion
  • moderate
  • for a few weeks
  • $ 6
  • I do not recommend using this treatment.

I'm 22 and I've had acne since I was 14 or so. It has gotten worse and worse throughout the years, and over the past 2 years, started scarring my face. I was getting ready to spend a lot of money that I don't really have to see a dermatologist and go on accutane (which has a lot of bad side effects, I hear)

Here's a list of some of the things I've tried. I've tried nearly everything:

Prescription topical benzoyl peroxide

Clean and Clear

Neutrogena

Proactive (multiple times)

Murad

St. Ives

Almay

Mary Kay

and many MANY more that i just can't remember. I've also tried almost every home remedy such as eggs, and so on. Egg yokes did make my skin softer for a short period of time but didn't help acne.

I started taking zinc last Thursday after reading all of the great reviews on this website. Since everyone talked about having naseau, I only took zinc after I had ate a really good meal. I never experienced any naseau that way, so I highly recommend to just go by the reviews and don't risk getting sick! After 4 days my acne had cleared up by about 80%. I was in disbelief! I wanted to wait a full week before writing a review though. Now my acne has cleared up 95%!!!!! I still have some red marks from zits that I had last week, and I had one new zit on my cheek this morning, but that is it. Which is a miracle because last week I had about 20 (noticeable) zits, and about a million whiteheads and blackheads.

Zinc really is the only thing that has worked for me. Ever. I wish I would have known about this 5 years ago.

I take 50mg a day, one day I was getting a little anxious and took 50mg in the morning and 25 at night. Both after eating and I didn't have any bad side effects.

I've also noticed nice improvements even besides the acne going away. My complexion looks clearer, as a whole. Even with a zit or two, my skin looks very pretty and clear, like the zits don't even matter! My skin is also a lot smoother, wh

  • Healthy and natural
  • CHEAP

Cons

  • (apparently naseau, though I didn't experience that symptom myself.)

  • $ 4
  • I recommend using this treatment.

Had I known back when I was 15 (35 years ago), I would have killed to have known the benefits of Zinc.

Started about a month ago with 50 mg, 25 am-25 pm. No breakouts to speak of. Healing on back and other areas is continuing.

My life has taken a change that I could have never imagined. I have a 16 year old with mildest acne, who breaks out ocaasionally.

Took him to Dermatologist 2 months ago (before I found out about Zinc). Dermatologist prescribed Clind/BP roller and a harsh drying agent. Boy uses Clind only with good results. If it fails, I've recommended Zinc to my son. He's hesitant about the nauseau since he's on the football team, trains every day and is very active.

We'll see. Anyway, I couldn't be happier. I wish good luck to all of you who at least try it. It has really changed a long, long history of physical and emotional pain.

:)

Pros

  • Great!

Cons

  • Nauseau
  • light
  • for a few months
  • $ 5
  • I do not recommend using this treatment.

I have been battling with cystic acne for the past 6 months and have tried every home remedy that has been suggested by other users on here with little to no success. I have tried it all: BP, tea tree oil, the oil cleansing method, lemon as a tonic and toner, green tea as a tonic and toner, cetaphil, salicylic acid, you name it. I was really trying to go the natural route and avoid antibiotics and costly visits to the dermatologist. I finally had given up and decided it was time to seek professional help when I had to reschedule an interview when a cyst on my cheek decided to grow to the size of a cherry tomato one morning. At this point I had already changed my diet, drastically reduced my caffeine intake and was drinking more water with no success but I figured I still may have some nutritional deficit so I went out and got a multivitamin and zinc since it had such rave reviews and was literally the only non prescription remedy I had not tried yet.I also got some clear calamine lotion to try and reduce the pain and swelling of the tumor on my cheek. The calamine lotion seemed to help quite a bit and also has zinc in it. It reduced the swelling a little and brought a couple of smaller cysts to a head that day and brought the huge one to a head the next day in the shower. I have been taking the zinc for 5 days now and didn't really notice a huge difference until this morning. I mean WOW! All of my pimples seem to be healing. Even the little ones that were starting to come up that I was sure would develop into giant life interfering cysts are starting to shrivel scab up. Also this hard knot that was the remnant of a cyst just disappeared overnight. It is also that time of the month so I figured things would be getting even worse. I was amazed this morning to find that my skin is actually healing. It has to be the zinc. I will check back in a few days and let you know if this is some sort of miracle or just a fluke. I'm going to hold off on the derm for now.

Pros

  • Seems to be working
  • Cheap
  • Boosts your immunity

Cons

  • Nausea if not taken with food
  • moderately severe
  • for about a week
  • $ 4
  • I recommend using this treatment.

I have been taking half of a tablet (50 mg tablet) b/c the DV for zinc is only 34mg. I have seen a drastic change in my acne. My complex is clearer and prettier=)

2 days after I began taking the supplements I notice four pimples forming on my face and the next day pop. I believe that was the zinc working =)

I have read that long term use is detrimental to your health so once my acne is totally clear i will have to find another suitable regimen :/

Pros

  • Significantly reduces acne!
  • clearer complexion

Cons

  • does not help much with dark mark from acne
  • stomach aches
  • moderate
  • for about a week
  • $ 6
  • I recommend using this treatment.

I started 50mg GNC brand Monday with a face full of spots. And by Friday I noticed some fading. I was so excited because I got tired of my pretty face being downgraded because of spots! Im African American but very light skinned. Far as curing acne I'm not so sure because its too soon I still break out but my bumps are small not even noticeable, they may be old ones I had before taking zinc. I used retina a micro and proactiv and it burned my face bad I'm still red from it but my spots are starting to blend in with my skin. I think! I dont know if its the vitamin c I take every day. Regardless of the fact start from the inside then out

Pros

  • Helps fade dark acne spots
  • Cheap
  • Easy to find

Cons

  • Must take after meal
  • Sometimes dizzy
  • moderate
  • $ 5.99
  • I recommend using this treatment.
