for some people, this is really the ticket. I don't think it will help everyone so well, but PLEASE give it a try. I waited way too long.

Pros

  • I have meant to write this for a while. I started taking zinc out of desperation a few years ago. My acne on my cheeks was really bad and neither retin-A nor oral antibiotics was working-- and I'd tried everything OTC. Within literally 5 days the acne went away, and hasn't come back. I get a very rare pimple or two, but it's absolutely astonishing how well it works. I wish more dermatologists looked at diet instead of just throwing piils! it would have saved me years of suffering.

Cons

  • You have to eat something substantial before-- I forget some mornings and have been sick very soon after taking it.
  • moderately severe
  • for more than a year
  • $ 6
  • I recommend using this treatment.

I've used zinc for the last few months. I've read a lot of reports of people saying that they have gotten clear in just a few days. Even though I don't say that their statements aren't true, it has not worked for me that way. I saw results after a few weeks of using zinc. As far as I've been told, it will take new spots a month before they come up. So it is natural for zinc not to clear you in just a few days, as any acne treatment for that matter.

I did try taking zinc before and usually I quit after a week or so, not seeing results and the zinc making me nauseous. For all those people that are experiencing the same, hang in there for just a few more weeks. My acne has gotten a whole lot better, especially on my back. I've noticed that the oiliness in my face is also greatly reduced. It has given me other benefits as well, helping my eczema and dandruff, and I've noticed an increased libido.

The one thing I don't like about zinc is that is makes me nauseous every time, even a little bit if I take it with food. But for me, the benefits outweigh the nausea.

I began taking 60 mg of Now Foods L-Optizinc (30 mg in the morning and 30mg in the evening), and after a few weeks I've lowered the dose to 30 mg, which is fine. I've tried other types of zinc in the past but they didn't seem to work as well as the Optizinc one. The cheapest I've found so far is on iHerb, the code UPU014 gives you a 5 dollar discount.

Pros

  • Helps acne heal quicker
  • Reduces oil production
  • Got rid of eczema as well
  • Helps with dandruff
  • Raises libido
  • Cheap

Cons

  • Makes me nauseous
  • Have to take with food
  • moderate
  • for a few months
  • $ 500
  • I recommend using this treatment.

This really works! I started taking this about two weeks ago after finding out about it on the Internet. I was at the end of my rope. My cystic acne was so bad around my mouth that I didn't want to leave the house. I was so embarrassed. I would say towards the end of the first week, I could see a drastic difference. My acne cleared up and I could tell my skin was a lot less oily. Right now, I do have 2 pimples, but it is that time of the month and 2 is a lot better than 10! Also, when they do come, they don't stay very long. I will wake up and they will have shrunk considerably over night. I take 50mg/ day after dinner. No nausea at all. Like others, I wish I had found this years ago. I am 35 and have been struggling with acne since I was a teenager. If you are struggling with acne, try this! You don't have anything to lose.

Will give it another go now that I have changed my regimen.

Pros

  • Seemed to help with acne, at least it did not break me out more

Cons

  • Was still getting cysts / pustules back at the time, but this might have to do with my soap / hydrating cream.
  • moderate
  • for a few months
  • $ 15
  • I recommend using this treatment.

So I've only been taking this for about 5 days now, but my skin (so far) is MUCH better. I'm on my 3rd month of spironolactone and my skin was doing a lot better but all of the sudden about 2 weeks ago it went CRAZY. I've also been breaking out on my forehead which has NEVER been an issue for me until I started the spiro, so hopefully it'll go away with time. Plus almost all of my acne is like mini-cysts under the skin so it's kindof unusual .Anyways I couldn't take it anymore so 5 days ago I decided to try zinc. I take 50mg after dinner every night and I'm going to keep taking it because so far I haven't had anything but good results. I'm not sure if acne.org lets people edit their reviews, but if I can I'll come back and edit this in a couple weeks to give an update on my results. Give this a try, people. Seriously, you honestly have nothing to lose.

Pros

  • * Seems to help skin heal quicker.
  • * Might be preventing new pimples!
  • * Less redness

Cons

  • * Weird metallic taste in my mouth sometimes.
  • * Might be giving me weird dreams every time I sleep (even naps).
  • * Might be making me more drowsy than usual.
  • moderate
  • for about a week
  • $ 7
  • I recommend using this treatment.

No improvement in skin after over a month of use. Seemed to break me out when i first started using it and after i stopped taking it. No noticeable effects on acne. I did notice I got some unwanted hair growth. It increased libido. Zinc contributes to testosterone and I noticed when I ate a bunch of oysters, these side effects occurred. Not really a deterrent in itself, just the hair growth and no change made me figure it's not worth it.

Pros

  • Easy to use

Cons

  • Initial breakout and also when i stopped takikng it (coincidence?)
  • No improvement
  • Unwanted hair growth
  • moderate
  • for a few months
  • $ 4
  • I do not recommend using this treatment.

I know that zinc's aid in fighting acne is controversal, however, I figured it couldn't hurt to try. I would much rather take a vitamin/mineral that take medication. I really think that this plays a part in helping acne. I believe that for many people, acne is an internal issue and should be fought on the inside as well as the outside. I think taking this supplement in conjunction with using good products is a great way to see results. I follow the regimen (I use purpose face wash, Dan's BP, and Dan's moisturizer). I follow the directions, morning and night, and try to be very gentle. I do this while taking zinc, vitamin A + D, and B complex with C. I have been doing this everyday for the past few months and I feel that it has really helped my skin. I think zinc is really worth a try, it has shown to have such successful results in many people - and it can't hurt. Just make sure to take on a full stomach every time! Good luck!!! :-)

Pros

  • Cheap
  • Natural
  • Suggested to regulate hormones
  • Helps heal quickly

Cons

  • Hurts stomach if not taken with food
  • moderate
  • for a few months
  • $ 4
  • I recommend using this treatment.

I have been dealing with painful cystic acne, large pores, and blackheads for quite some time now. After reading all of the amazing reviews on zinc I went to my local health food store to purchase a bottle about a month ago. Within days I noticed my skin clearing up. As each week passed, my skin got better and better. For the first time since pre-puberty, my face is 98% clear and it's honestly a miracle. If I do get a blemish it heals quickly, my scars are fading, and my overall skin texture is smooth. If you are struggling with acne, save yourself the money on prescriptions and topicals, and get yourself a bottle of OptiZinc by Source Naturals (This is the one I use).

Pros

  • Noticeable improvement in skin
  • Skin is smoother
  • Blemishes healed fast

Cons

  • Upset stomach if taken without food
  • moderate
  • for about a month
  • $ 18
  • I recommend using this treatment.

I've struggled with terrible hormonal acne for the last 2 years and it was extremely embarrassing to have clusters of stubborn cystic acne along the jawline and on chin. I tried absolutely everything and nothing worked.

However, after using Zinc for about 2 months now I cannot believe how my skin has cleared up!!

I am thrilled to say that I am officially pimple free!

Initially, for the first week, I was taking 50 mg of zinc daily ( 25 mg in the morning and 25 mg in the evening).

However, I then lowered the dosage to just 25 mg a day and I find that 25 mg is still very substantial and works fantastic!

I would recommend zinc to everyone!!!!!

Pros

  • *AMAZING!!!! AMAZING!!! AMAZING!!!!
  • *Inexpensive
  • *Anti-inflammatory
  • *no side effects
  • *a natural remedy
  • *an essential mineral for an overall support of the immune system
  • *improves the overall appearance of the skin

Cons

  • absolutely no cons. =)
  • moderate
  • for a few months
  • $ 6
  • I recommend using this treatment.

Great vitamin for your immune system it just isn't good in the long run for your body because it makes you copper deficient.

Pretty much i broke out like crazy from TAP WATER...who would've thunk it...i tried to stay healthy and drink about a gallon of water a day and the chlorine in my water made me nauseous and slaughtered my immune system.

I finally got to the bottom of it and figured out what was causing my acne because I hadn't broken out in years.

Combined zinc and vitamin C every day and boom goes the dynamite.

Drink 8 cups of FILTERED water

Take 2 25mg zincs throughout the day

Take 2 ester C (vitamin c supplement)

Wash face with cleanser in the morning

Wash face with cleanser at night

BE PATIENT.

Enjoy your new skin. seriously.

Pros

  • Cheap
  • Strengthens immune system
  • Works

Cons

  • Temporary use to be safe
  • moderate
  • for about a month
  • $ 3
  • I recommend using this treatment.
