Pros It works very well on inflamed pimples, cystic, pustule etc
made skin more supple and healthy looking
eliminates skin redness and irritation.
Cons does not seem to work on hormonal acne (menstrual acne for girls)
a bit of stomach ache
Bottom line I've used it for a couple weeks now. my skin texture and appearance improved alot. I can say that my skin is lots better than it was before i started taking zinc supplements.
The redness of the spots and blablabla has disappeared and the skin tone looks better.
IT WORKS FOR ME.

Pros More even skin tone
I didn't get nauseous
Seemed to help with whiteheads and inflamed blackheads
Cons I got BAD headaches
My joints HURT
Worked on/off for occasional inflammatory acne
Bottom line I took zinc when the fish oil didn't do anything for me. Within the first few months of taking zinc, I did notice a slight to moderate improvement in my acne. Then around the 4th month, I got side effects. Even though I took 50 mg of zinc every other day, I still got HORRIBLE headaches that would last for hours and it felt my joints were very sore. I went to the doctor and he advised me to stop taking it. As soon as I stopped, the pain went away and I was back to my normal self. I don't know if there was a contaminant in the zinc pills or what, but it made me very wary of taking supplements for acne again. You might not get these side effects, but you should still be careful when taking something.

Pros clear skin
even skin tone
Cons too much (100mg+) can interfere with copper absorption
Bottom line LOVE IT! I'm 26 and have tried everything from expensive chemical peels, Obagi skin care products, Retin-A, micro derm, etc and nothing has cleared up my skin like Zinc.

Just a few weeks ago my skin was so bad that I didn't want to go to work because I was so embarrassed that at 26 I was breaking out like a 14 year old. Now, 3 weeks after taking a daily Zinc tablet, I have clear skin! I never dreamed 3 weeks ago that I would have clear skin just by taking Zinc. It was kind of a last resort and a "why not" approach.... but, it actually worked!!!

Skip the dermatologist appointments and give Zinc a try. At least give it 30 days, it WILL WORK!

I use Nature's Gate Organics Zinc 30mg. The first 2 weeks I took 1 pill in the morning, one at night. Then on the 3rd week, I cut it back to 1 pill in the morning (after breakfast - always take soon after eating).

Pros helps acne and gives you some control over it; less oily skin and hair.
Cons really tired the first few days of taking zinc; sometimes makes you feel nauseous.
Bottom line I came off the pill 3 months ago, which i had been taking for about 3 yrs for my acne. at month 2, i started noticing the dreaded post-pill break out, esp on my mouth / jaw line area. Plus my skin and hair were SOOO oily, it was embarrassing.

i saw ppl talking about zinc and its benefits to acne so i thought i'd try it out. at first i took 25mg of zinc gluconate (chelated) for the first couple of days and saw some slight decrease in break outs. i then bumped it up to 50mg and am now taking 75mg at week 2, which i think has helped to speed up the healing process. my skin is far less oily now and i don't get those nasty, painful red bumps around my mouth area like i used to. sometimes i can feel those bumps trying to rear its ugly head again, but the zinc seems to fight them so that they don't become a full blown pimple.

sometimes i crush a tablet with a little bit of water and make a paste for my face. it stings a bit, but it goes a long way in reducing the redness of acne and any scarring from picking my spots.

i think this is definitely worth a try for ppl who have tried absolutely everything that is UNNATURAL. try it with about 3000mg of EPO if u think ur acne is hormone-related and u will definitely see some improvement. i wouldn't say it has cured my acne completely or that it's an instant fix, but follow a disciplined approach and over a few months u may see some great results! it only took a couple of days personally for me to see some changes :)

Pros Cleared up my skin totally
Stopped me from getting colds
Generally good for your health
Cheap and easy to obtain
No initial breakout
Cons Only worked in the short term
Makes you feel sick as a dog if taken on empty stomach
Can't be taken with cereal i.e. no breakfast cereal
Bottom line I've tried loads of stuff for my skin (except Accutane - yet), both prescription and over the counter.

My family are dead against vitamin supplements and I was a little sceptical, but this was actually prescribed to me by a doctor in France and for about a few months worked incredibly. I had beautiful skin and, to boot, the Zinc stopped me from getting any kind of cough or cold and I had a rock hard immune system. After a few months, however, stopped working. Not sure why. The effects for those two months were so dramatic, though, that I am now no longer sceptical about vitamin supplements and continue to take Zinc - even if it hasn't cleared up my skin, I have far fewer coughs and colds.

If you take it on an empty stomach, it will make you feel really sick.

Pros may prevent other problems related to low zinc intake
Cons didn't help at all maybe made it worse and you have to take a pill every day
Bottom line its probably not going to work so try something else first but i guess if you are out of options try this it didn't work for me but nothing else does either so maybe i'm just immune to almost any type of remedy

Pros -drastic decrease in acne
-even skin tone
-shortens life span of pimples
Cons -personally not a fan of pill taking, but this is a supplement rather than chemicals
Bottom line I've been suffering with acne for about 10 years now - I am in my early 20s.

I have tried SO many products (everything from Neutrogena to La Roche Posay, etc) and been to the dermatologist, but never really found anything I felt that truly cured my acne. Sure, topical products help to remove acne when it occurs, but what about prevention and avoiding it in the first place?

That's where zinc TRULY saved me. It DRASTICALLY cleared my acne in a short time, within a week I could see real results. I'm sure I sound like an infomercial right now but I honestly made this account because zinc has been a lifesaver for me and wanted to encourage others to try as well. Sometimes I forget to take my supplement for a couple days and will break out with one or two small pimples, but never anything serious. My skin tone is a lot less red, and more even looking. I honestly break out 85% less than I used to - an occasional pimple here or there is not a big deal and not very noticeable (as opposed to the big, painful cystic pimples I used to deal with). I no longer need to use a million different products at night and put all these lotions, potions, and chemicals on my face which makes me the happiest. I stick with Paula's Choice Clear Cleanser and every now and then dab on some toner or BP for spot treatment.

I'm still dealing with some marks/scars on my face but they look to be evening out/fading. My face feels much smoother, healthier and brighter looking. I no longer cringe when looking at my makeup-free self in the mirror. Zinc has truly been a lifesaver, I'm not sure if I was possibly zinc deficient or just need more than the average person, but it has done wonders for my skin.

Since it's budget friendly I recommend it to everyone, just don't overdose! I would stick with no more than 100mg daily. I personally take zinc gluconate which I have read is best for skin.

Good luck!

Pros GOOD PART: very anti-imflammatory!
-works pretty quickly
-pretty safe
-prevents cysts (for the most part!)
-NO MORE PAIN!!!!
Cons SAD PART: Not a miracle cure, won't get rid of your acne completely.
GOOD/BAD: your skin gets drier! so either cut back on the BP or add more moisture homie!
Bottom line NO MORE PAINFUL ACNE, makes me grateful when I still get acne that it doesn't hurt.... don't forget to always be grateful that your situation is not the worst.
Okay I'm going to try and summarize my experience:
-I use optizinc (30mg tablets) because it contains trace amounts of copper so you don't have to worry about being deficient in either!
-Don't be scared, I was pretty scared to use zinc at first, but I told myself that after my next new zit, I really had nothing else to lose.
-Don't put off zinc after only a few days, you'll surely see a difference in your skin tone (brighter, smoother) and size/frequency of breakouts!
-I started with 30mg just so I know I'm starting out safe and not going into this supplement like a crazy person (100mg per day) =p
-Although it doesn't rid my acne completely, definitely makes me grateful that my acne is not painful anymore.
