I'm 19yrs old and have had acne since I was about 13. About 2yrs ago I tried Murad Acne Treatment......Waste of money and It completely Broke my face out to the point of where I had to stay home from school for like a week. Now If I were to rate my skin on acne from a 1 to 10. 4 normally and 7 on a bad day. It's always been "moderate" but It's literally been less than a week and if not 90% of my acne has cleared. I had no Idea that Zinc of all things could clear acne. and not only that but I workout alot and sometimes would get tiny pimples on my back..THERE COMPLETELY GONE. This stuff is a miracle worker. If you have acne . TRY THIS. It works. I'm never gonna stop taking it. I take 1 50 mg in the morning ( with breakfast) and then 1 50mg (with dinner) but after about 2 more weeks I'll just cut back to 1 pill a day. Like I said it works fast BUT just make sure you take it on a FULL stomach. Good luck guys

Pros

  • Clears Blemishes
  • Makes your skin brighter and Healthier
  • Less Blackheads around my Nose and Chin
  • reduces Redness and Inflammation

Cons

  • I was wondering why everyone kept saying to make sure you eat something before you take Zinc....YESS if not taken on a full stomach you will get stomach cramps or Nausea.
  • moderate
  • for about a week
  • $ 6
  • I recommend using this treatment.

I've only been using this for a week, but it has been great for my acne.

I'm a 16 year-old girl with moderately severe acne and pretty bad hyperpigmentation. I started getting acne when I was around 12, and it's gotten increasingly worse over the years. I'd even started getting a few cystic pimples. I finally tried zinc and am so happy with the results! In a week my skin looks better than it has in months or maybe even years!

I've found that zinc doesn't do much to reduce active breakouts, but it does prevent new ones from forming, so I'm expecting my skin to continue to improve as my pimples heal. Zinc also hasn't done anything to help my hyperpigmentation, but honestly I'm just happy to see the active acne going away.

I bought the Jamieson brand zinc for $15 for 100 50mg pills and have been taking two per day with a meal. The recommended dosage is to take only 1 pill a day, so if you're going to take two you should probably talk to your doctor. Personally I haven't noticed any side effects but I'm no medical professional either.

Good luck to everyone on your journey to clear skin!

Pros

  • Reasonably cheap
  • Easy to use
  • Effective
  • Prevents new breakouts

Cons

  • Stomach pains if taken on an empty stomach
  • Doesn't do much for active breakouts
  • moderately severe
  • for about a week
  • $ 15
  • I recommend using this treatment.

It works for me. Im a 16 year old girl who has moderate - severe acne plus hyperpigmentation. Ive researched everything and finally discovered that taking 2 50mg zinc gluconate caplets eveyday or other day with a meal clears my skin remarkably. I also suggest a skin product called Acnevir(found at walmart), which is what i use alongside zinc. Its a topical gel formula( benzoyl peroxide) worked wonders..

Anyways i recommend this. Drink this with your daily recommended intake of water and of course a relatively healthy diet and your skin will improve! You will thank yourself and of course zinc!

(Oh and the brand of zinc for me was a store brand at CVS)

Pros

  • Clears blemishes(even cystic)
  • Improved skin texture
  • Worked in about a week
  • Cheap and effective
  • Ezcema is less aggressive

Cons

  • If taken on empty stomach ive experienced slight nausea and stomach pains. Nothing too serious.
  • moderately severe
  • $ 5
  • I recommend using this treatment.

i'm 40 years old and have suffered hormonal acne since mid teens, i have tried loads of skincare, pills, herbal remedies, and decided enough was enough, my next stop was to ask the dr for help....but before i did, something caught my eye about zinc for acne, so i bought some zinc tablets (10mg) from chemist and starting taking them just one week ago....and for the first time in over 20 years i finally see a difference!!

i usually flare up 5 days before a period, especially around my jawline/temples/neck, and i always have big red (and small red) spots on my chest and back, my face can be spot free for a couple of days before the cycle begins again, altho my back and chest are never spot free....

i am anemic, so i take iron (ferrous sulphate prescription) daily, along with vit E, calcium and vit D, evening primrose and a B complex tablet (as i'm a veggie) every day,....also as i take iron, i take my tablet with a vit C drink...(which they gave me when i was in hospital as it helps absorb the iron) please note this if you find you are anemic....tea and coffee depletes iron, so best taken with fresh orange juice or vit c drink.....

anyway....i am 1 day away from a period and my face and neck is completely clear....but the biggest change has been on my back and chest....yes i still have some tiny pink dots...but no great big bumpy spots...and as far my back!!!!...wow...i noticed the other day that my back felt different...then i realised its cos it didn;t feel like a pebble dashed building....it felt smooth!...i got my daughters to take photos so i could see...and although there is the odd small spot...probably about 15....it is no where near what its been for the past 25 years.i probably had over 100 spots on my back and shoulders.....i couldn;t believe this was as a result of taking zinc, so i googled and came accross this site...i just had to register and share my experience....this has been such a quick result....and i will review again after

Pros

  • it works for me, only been taking for a week, acne not clear, but dramatically reduced.

Cons

  • none so far
  • moderate
  • for about a week
  • $ 5
  • I recommend using this treatment.

Be very careful not to give yourself an iron deficiency by taking zinc.

I personally think a multivitamin is the best option, as this ensures you're getting everything you need - zinc included.

Pros

  • None.

Cons

  • I took chelated zinc supplements for 6 weeks, having read in a book ('the clear skin diet') that it helps acne. I didn't see any improvements in my skin, though, and ended up with a fairly severe iron deficiency at the end of 6 weeks. I later found out that zinc inhibits the absorption of iron, which explains why I started getting headaches, fatigued etc. whilst on these supplements.
  • moderate
  • for a few weeks
  • $ 5
  • I do not recommend using this treatment.

for some people, this is really the ticket. I don't think it will help everyone so well, but PLEASE give it a try. I waited way too long.

Pros

  • I have meant to write this for a while. I started taking zinc out of desperation a few years ago. My acne on my cheeks was really bad and neither retin-A nor oral antibiotics was working-- and I'd tried everything OTC. Within literally 5 days the acne went away, and hasn't come back. I get a very rare pimple or two, but it's absolutely astonishing how well it works. I wish more dermatologists looked at diet instead of just throwing piils! it would have saved me years of suffering.

Cons

  • You have to eat something substantial before-- I forget some mornings and have been sick very soon after taking it.
  • moderately severe
  • for more than a year
  • $ 6
  • I recommend using this treatment.
