Bottom Line:I started using Biozinc by blackmores about 3months ago not noticing any improvements, then recently read the back of the label and it stated the zinc equivalent was only 15mg, so il try and find some 50mg zinc tablets, then hopefully I will get some improvements!!!!
But i do not recommend biozinc to anyone, doesnt help at all!!

Pros:Very effective, quick, easy to use (just swallow)
Cons:None, just take with a meal
Bottom Line:Zinc is very effective. I've been on it for 3 weeks, and my skin is nearly perfect. I've never had horrible skin, but I've had persistent acne since I was 15 (now almost 20). After a week I saw results as new pimples slowed development and existing ones went away. I usually break out every two weeks (2 good, 1 bad), but this time it was very small and manageable, and went away in a weekend. Three weeks later, I'm 99% clear (one little guy remains). I take 50mg a day with breakfast. I also take fish oil capsules, and I do Dani's regimen. I've tried countless treatments over the years, and this is the first one that has really worked. I highly recommend giving it a try for 4-8 weeks.

Pros:Cheap, easy to use, quick effect.
Cons:Even small doses can make you feel ill in your stomach - best taken with food.
Bottom Line:i get comedone type acne only, by that i only mean tiny whiteheads. i dont need to use any medication or anything since it doesnt actually look like i have acne but even whiteheads bothered me enough to try zinc. i noticed the whiteheads start to appear after i cut red meat from my diet, apparently red meat is an excellent source of zinc so i got a 60tablet pack of 15mg zinc sulphate from my local boots (for £3.02!) and ive been taking one a day after lunch for a week now. although my face was only mildy moist before, i noticed on my second day of taking the tabs that my face stayed very dry the whole day, my pores had a closed appearance and i stopped getting whiteheads. i will continue to take a tablet a day to maintain the result.

Pros:Good for skin and immunity. I take it with calcium/magnesium.
Cons:Don't take too much.
Bottom Line:Helen,

Make sure that the B-complex that you are taking DOES NOT contain Kelp:it contains massive amounts of iodine, which has been known to be a skin irritant. Lots of b-supplements use Kelp as a form of B; it causes severe acne in many people (even in people who do not usually get it). Hint: look in the fine print on the bottom of the bottle. If your b-complex contains this, this may be why the zinc is not working. Of course, this doesn't mean that you should completely avoid iodine (you need it), but too much can be a disaster. If you find that you have been unknowingly taking Kelp, stop taking it; find your source of b's elsewhere, give it a few weeks then see if the zinc works better. Also, dairy can be high in iodine too, though to a lesser extent. You might also want to look into eating organic meats/poultry (if you eat meat); most commercial meat/poultry/dairy has added hormones which can also cause hormonal acne, especially in women.

Good luck :)

Pros:Skin has cleared 95%, and has become less oily by 95%.
Cons:NO Cons, just take with food.
Bottom Line:I take 50mg. of Zinc alongside a Vitamin B-50 (containing Pantothenic acid or B-5)..
My skin has cleared 95%, and I couldn't be happier!
To give a full perspective I also use a gentle cleanser and 2.5% benzoyl peroxide at night and during the day as spot treatment. And I always use a 15spf moisturizer during the day.
However, the cleansing, treating, and moisturizing wasn't clearing my skin, just barely maintaining. I'm happy to say that 1 pill of Zinc, and 1 pill of B-50 (purchased at a national retail chain in the vitamin section) is an expensive and EFFECTIVE way to clear my acne!
Zinc aids in fighting infections and helping the immune system, and I've definitely seen the results as my "infected pores" have been healed and acne prevented from returning.

Cons:Vomiting when taken on empty stomach.
Bottom Line:I have been taking one 50 mg zinc tablet each day for the past three days, not to help with acne but to help with immune defense. I've yet to see if I get over my cold any faster because of the zinc, and I haven't noticed much change in my complexion (except that my face is a little feverish!)
The first day: I took the zinc first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, and vomitted it right back up.
The second day: I took it after a meal and felt fine.
The third day: I took it after a pack of Twizzlers and some Chex Mix, and felt nauseas for a while. Blah!

So, it sounds like what everyone is saying is true: Don't take it on an empty stomach!

Pros:works, cheap
Cons:Threw up when i took too much
Bottom Line:Skin became less oily but be careful about taking too much, I took 100mg all at once for lunch, a big lunch not too filling though, half an hour later i think i threw up half my lunch because of the zinc. Other than that one occasion zinc has been quite helpful

Pros:Works great if you stay on it
Cons:Dont stop
Bottom Line:I used to take zinc about 50-100mg a day and my acne broke out some very little, but healed up quickly.

I stoped taking it for 3 months and my face started breaking out over and over and it took forever for the bumps to disapear.

Try it...just a few bucks!!! Don't take on an empty stomach

Pros:cheaper than retinoids and works pretty well
Cons:might give headaches, might make you throw up on an empty stomach, takes a little while to work so DONT STOP YOUR ORIGINAL REGIME!!!
Bottom Line:Just wanted to let everyone know that if you take too much zinc oxide (over 50mg), it interferes with copper absorption. seriously, go look it up if you dont believe. Thats why some products carry extra copper.
But Zinc Monomethionine does not interfere with copper absorption, and i saw it to be about 4-5$ in vitamin shoppe. it was called optizinc. and to those taking over 150mg of zinc a day, i hope it isnt zinc oxide cause you might get sick in the long run. take care
