| Bottom line | I went on Yaz and was so sure this was going to work for me and all it did was cause me months of pain and stress. I was constantly sick to my stomach so much so that I could barely get out of bed. I missed work, social events with friends and spent Christmas and New Years in my bed or the bathroom. It was terrible. There was no effect on my skin and even if there was it wouldn't have been worth it. I tried to stick it out for 3 months hearing that it can take up to 3 months for your body to adapt. 2.5 months in I couldn't take it anymore and stopped 3 days later I felt so much better and have been getting progressively better for the last few months. Through this whole ordeal I did learn that dairy was the culprit of my bad skin. I have cut dairy out of my diet almost completely and my skin is amazing. 1 or 2 blemishes around the time of my period or if I cave and have a slice of pizza. I wouldn't wish Yaz on anyone but I'm glad, in some round about way, it was able to lead me to the true issue with my skin. |

| Bottom line | I was prescribed this after I decided my previous birth control wasn't working out for me. I was excited because my doctor said that this helped women with their acne and even reduces hair growth. Being of Greek heritage and having suffered from acne for 10+ years, I thought why not! Big mistake! Within a month my acne worsened and I don't mean a few breakouts here and there. My acne was actually worse than when I was a teenager! After a month, I called my doctor in hysterics and switched back to my old birth control (ortho-cyclen) which helped my skin once upon a time. Unfortunately, Yasmin messed up my skin so much, it took almost a year of various topical and antibiotic treatments to get it back to my pre-Yasmin state. |

| Pros | They told me this one is still Yasmin but its called Zarah? Scared to take it any further though because my mom died of blood clots so anything associated with that makes me worry big time. My skin looks alot clearer though but i never had issues much to begin with. My breasts seem a bit larger. Sex drive is increased! Also on Prenatal vitamins for anemia due to a super heaver monster period last month. I want to give it a good try but i wonder if the side effects will lessen? |

| Pros | Skin is totally clear. Hair is thick, despite horror stories of thining hair on yasmin. No noticeable weight gain. Regular, short periods. Effective contraceptive. When the odd spot comes it tends to go quite quickly. |

| Cons | My skin did get worse for the first two months of taking Yasmin. It took a few weeks to get used to this pill. To start with I had mood swings, and I felt a little bit sick at times. It was worth continuing with as after three months my skin was so much better. |
| Bottom line | I am 25 years of age and, unlike so many poor teenagers, my skin had never been bad before. Last November (just in time for Christmas!) my skin went totally bonkers. Large, red bumps appeared on my forehead. They started like little pimples but eventually they spread into angry sore patches. I had general spots on the rest of my face and nothing seemed to make them go away. My face became very sore to touch and unsightly, which affected my mood and I found it hard to do my job with confidence (I am a teacher). A month later things were not getting any better. I went to the doctor after Christmas who said it was just hormone induced acne. He put me on Yasmin and gave me a topical solution (Zineryt) to calm the redness. The first thing I did was google “Yasmin Acne” and there were plenty of bad reviews online, which made me feel rather disheartened about starting my first pack. However, I took the doctor’s advice and thought I would give Yasmin a try. Having now been on it for ten months, I have to say that I am very glad that I did. At first, my skin did seem to get worse. It may have been a reaction to starting a new pill, or simply the fact that my skin would have got worse whether I had been taking a pill or not. I did experience some initial side effects, such as a fuzzy feeling in my head, and the occasional sicky feeling, but these were short lived after a few weeks. Gradually my skin began to clear up, and then suddenly it got better very quickly. The redness and the lumps seemed to fade, and spots became far less profound. My skin is now clear and smooth (touchwood). The deepest acne has left a bit of scarring on my forehead, but it can be covered with a little bit of powder. For me, it seems to have really worked. My advice to anyone who is thinking about trying Yasmin is to give it a go for at least five months before you make your mind up. Do stick with it if you decide to give it a go. I am so glad I did. |

| Bottom line | I went on Yasmin three years ago to treat adult acne. It worked wonders. Completely cleared my skin with very minor side effects. Even after switching to another BCP, my skin still remained crystal clear. I made the mistake of stopping BC for a few weeks, and my acne is worse than ever now. I went back on Yasmin about 2 months ago and am hoping for the same results. My face is mostly clear, but I have broken out pretty badly around my neck and jawline. I am hoping that this is just my body adjusting to the BC again and that I will experience the same amazing results I did the first time. I believe it did take 3-4 months for my skin to completely clear the first time I was on it, so you do have to be patient and give it time to work. I do think acne gets worse before it gets better when you go on a new BC. |
