| Pros | - I didn't get pregnant, but that's only because I literally felt my libido die when I started taking it. - Fractionally bigger breasts that hurt to touch, so they were surely useful. |
|---|---|
| Cons | - No sex drive. At all. As in, it took care of the only reason I was taking a contraceptive in the first place. - I broke out. Not just a little. My face was clear before I started, and two weeks later my cheeks, jawline and around my mouth turned into a warzone. - Weight gain. I had bigger boobs, but then again, I had bigger everything despite zero changes in my diet or exercise patterns. - Thrush. Enough said. - Horrible, horrible breakthrough bleeding. I FELT like I was bleeding t |
| Bottom line | Okay, I know I sound really, really negative, but going on the pill did nothing for my skin. I was taking it as a contraceptive, and it worked beautifully because it made me feel so self-conscious that I didn't want to have sex. I retained so much water that I felt like a bag of pudding, and I am still struggling to get rid of it. The state it left my skin in absolutely broke my heart. Please, for the love of all that is good, if you are taking a blind guess that your acne is hormonal, have some tests done. Don't go messing with your hormones if you don't have to, because nobody deserves to go through the pain of feeling like their body has turned against them and that they have lost control. Months later I am still trying to find the love I had for myself before I started taking this pill. My skin is slowly getting back to normal. Don't get me wrong, this absolutely does work for some girls, but it works for girls whose acne is hormonal. Mine wasn't. I cleared it up for the most part with zinc supplements, a good diet, exercise and lots of water, and this set me back a thousand steps. Now I have to start again. Just know what you're getting into before you put all of your hope into it. Don't mess with your hormones if you don't have to. |

| Pros | It regulated my period really well. I never have any cramps, and my breasts grew a little. |
|---|---|
| Cons | I broke out like CRAZY. Cystic acne all over my cheeks and along the jaw line. |
| Bottom line | 1st month, I was extremely moody, anxious, depressed. I noticed that I started getting little bumps all over my face, even in places I never had acne before. 2nd-3rd month, the moodiness went away, but then I started getting a couple cysts on my cheeks and jawline, and they would take FOREVER to go away. 4th-5th month, the cysts multiplied and now both cheeks are covered in cysts. There are also some cysts on my temple area, and one or two on my forehead. The jawline has calmed down a little but I get a new cyst occasionally. I went to the dermatologist and they recommended me to go on Clindamyacin (topical cream) and doxycycline (oral pill) to sterilize my face, because they said I need to go on Accutane ASAP. Before Yasmin, my skin had the occasional cyst, but now its full blown, and my doctor said Accutane is my only choice right now. I'm getting off Yasmin ASAP. And I'm going to let Accutane repair the damages. This may work for some people but it does not work for all. |

| Pros | Great for skin! A fantastic option for acne if your body cannot tolerate harsher meds Inexpensive |
|---|---|
| Cons | Felt nauseous for the first few weeks |
| Bottom line | I have had severe cystic acne since I was a teenager. Unfortunately am highly allergic to Acutane/Isotane, which I believe to be the best product on the market for acne. I have been on Yasmin for 3 months and have seen a significant improvement on my face!! My chest and upper arms are clearly slowly, and the back is taking its time... but I am seeing slow and steady results! I would say this is worth a try for anyone struggling with skin. |

| Pros | Didn't get pregnant while I was on it. |
|---|---|
| Cons | Gave me complicated, cyst-like acne that is persisting 9 months after having stopped taking the pill. Became depressed while on this pill (as well as any other pill I have ever tried, so this result is probably not typical). |
| Bottom line | Absolutely hated it. I have only been more moody while I was on Alesse. My skin was crystal clear prior to starting the pill and it ended up ruining my complexion and now I have many scars because of it. |

| Pros | lost a bit of weight skin is clearing up after getting worse initially shorter period |
|---|---|
| Cons | initial breakout must be patient to see results |
| Bottom line | yasmin is proven to be a great BCP for acne. Over 9 cycles it has been shown to be just as good as diane but it is much healthier for you and you can be on it forever, it is for the treatment of MODERATE acne not mild or severe. If you switch from another BCP to yasmin it is very likely your skin will flare up the first month or two while your body adjusts to the new hormones. It has been proven to work IF you give it time to and of course if hormones are the root of your acne problem. if something else causes your acne you may not see significant improvement. If you get on it be ready to commit to letting it work. too there are far too many reviews on this site saying it made acne worse after they have only been using it a month or 2. you must be patient! |

| Pros | clear skin, no excess body/facial hair, thicker hair on my head, stabilized mood |
|---|---|
| Cons | when i went off all the pros are reversed. |
| Bottom line | i had acne everywhere, then went on yasmin and my skin cleared up to the point that i rarely ever even had the slightest imperfection on my face and i was only using cetaphil cleanser each night and water in the morning. When i went off it my hair started falling out in clumps (thank god i have a very very full head of hair), it did start growing back after a month or so... the worst part about going off the pill is that my skin has completely broken out and looks almost as bad as it did pre-yasmin. :( |
